DD/DTS is max 1.5mbps. While PCM/TrueHD/DTS MA is exact replication of studio master. (except TrueHD/DTS MA using compression to save a heck of spaces in BDs and uncompress it back in the receiver, bitstream ofcourse)

in my opinion, technically, PCM is far more superior than legacy DD/DTS.

in my experience, definitely PCM is far more kick-ass than legacy DD/DTS.

if the PCM is not process ?? mean more worst than DD/DTS?

err.. i cant comment on that. I never experience it personally. maybe it will be in rx situation.

digitalKL,
my wife just scold me for "THINKING" of buying the projector.....what do u think she'll do if I change the receiver that is less than a year old??? blink.gif

I think the V1800 should be good enough if u don't need those network receiver thing....V3800 or Z11 will be overkill liao...

Aiyah, buy the amp first, worry about your wife later, the most sleep outside for 1 night only, then the next day should be okay liao. tongue.gif

Ehh ..... LPCM leh ...... bukan MPCM, janganlah hari-hari dream of being a MP. laugh.gif

LPCM is for backward compatibility to older amps, the sound quality won't be the same as the one decoded by the amp, you don't have Burr Brown DACs in a PS3, everything is done via software so ultimately, you'll need a standalone blu-ray player that can do HBR via HDMI.

ok. ok...

hm let me think.

so, u set-up ur PS3 to output HDMI audio in PCM rite? correct?

irregardless of hd audio or legacy DD/DTS u select, it will show MPCM on the receiver? ok... because u set PS3 PCM output. ok

so the problem is when u set PCM to your PS3 and play PCM sources, somewhat the volume is lower.

am i correct with above statement?

ok rx. the answer is right in front of u. your receiver didn't process the PCM source. thats it.

ok, my 661 have a function called 'pure direct mode' whereby all the processing (DTS/DD/PII/amplify/EQ/speaker settings and all the processing) will be shut off. the receiver only pass the input signal to speakers. when i play anything (DVD/BD/Audio CD/DTV/ and all) and activate this mode, the sound will became weak (low volume) and sound is not good.

and this relate to your situation whereby PCM sources sounded lower on your receiver.

am i answering your question? smile.gif

or?

u set ur PS3 in PCM. then u select pcm on the BD, it sounded low. but when u select DD/DTS it became ok (but ur PS3 still in PCM mode)?

Don't think so ...... New Line Cinema has very limited titles released on Blu-Ray. I hope to see Austin Powers and Blade Trilogy on Blu-Ray.

Apis, I think the last sentence is the situation RX is having.

I've tried what you did with "Pure Direct" too, and I agree. But RX's problem only when the BD audio source is PCM. The legacy DTS/DD is OK even with PS3 maintains PCM output.

RX scenario like I posted before:

BD PCM source --> PCM --> Amp ... Low audio
BD DTS/DD source --> PCM --> Amp ... Loud audio

So, his problem is weird I think. He need to have some HT expert to visit his home.

Cool la RX. laugh.gif

Guys, kesian la wei... At least give support. whistling.gif

So it's only a couple of titles.

Maybe it's not the hardwares after all. Maybe just the 2 BDs got issues. hmm.gif

I don't have both Botti & Protege, anyone else have them? Can you confirm what RX is experiencing with the audio?

Or, RX could be having defective discs, if that's so, should be able to return?

Yes, I think mpyw also have Botti? Got same problem or not? hmm.gif

What you can try, is bring the discs to other systems.

1. Those with PS3 and any receivers.
2. Those who uses PS3 with the same Onky 605 receiver, that will be the best.

If the problem is still there for both option, you can confirm that the discs are defective.

If only on the option 2, then it could be the disc and/or the Onky.

But if the problem disappears with both option, than bad news, your system may be the problem. sweat.gif
