Today me & my gf went to Public Bank to open a Joint Account. When we give our IC to the officer, she said you can't open a Joint Account since the address in IC is different.

Does all banks have this kind of rules or only PB Bank?

It doesn't make sense at all doh.gif

Hi,

From my experience with Maybank was in order to open Joint Account, you need to have some sort of close relationship with the other holder eg husband and wife. When I tried to open a joint account in Maybank a few months ago, they don't allow us to open unless we can provide a marriage cert for them to acknowledge it.

The following day, we brought our marriage cert to PB bank and want to open joint account there. However, it isn't required at all. Anyway, that was 3 months back.

Emm.. I wasn't sure if this is a regulation by Bank Negara or within bank itself.

Hope someone can enlighten this issue for you.

@wongck,
You should check with the bank teller as to the reason; sometimes it's because the bank wants to make sure u two are related (and bf/gf is probably not counted as relations) and using address as a 'check'. However, it may not be 100% accurate; I may or may not live in the same household as my folks smile.gif

PS: My mom & aunt opened a joint account to keep some $ for my grandma and didn't have any problems with the different address problems. I believe the account was also opened at PB.

The teller just told that is their rules. She said u need a document to prove it.

Then I explain to her that the reason I'm opening a joint account it to pay my housing loan. My housing loan also took from PB Bank. I even charge for RM10 for opening a SI account.

Then she said I can open the Joint account but with term&cond. Need to pay RM2 for every transaction when I pay the housing loan because the loan I took is from different branch.

Additional RM2 charges for transaction bcoz of different branch even the loan is took from PB bank? Is this kind of rules is stupid or wat?

@wongck,
It seems a bit doh to me. Y don't u check with another teller and if need, speak to the Bank Manager or something. I don't see Y i should be paying RM2 for every transaction used; perhaps there's just many different accounts and this particular one she's recommending is not the most appropriate one.

You should be able to get the information on their website; and if really there's a transaction charge of RM2 due to different braches, might as well go open it at the other branch office instead.

Banks are getting so ma fan!

If the teller tell you so, that mean it is true. Since they cant earn anything from you. biggrin.gif

But the Rm2 charge is really stupid. No choice, u need to open the bank acct at ur load public bank lol.

Or no SI but bank in using pbebank.com every month!

Any bank still can open joint account? If need to be same address on IC then is easy, just change a new card word same address.
