I think sugar glider is kind of more difficult to keep and lives longer than a bunny. Both are quite different, if you want a very affectionate pet that is always at your side then you can get a glider. Gliders need more attention or they will die of loneliness unless they have a cage mate.

QUOTE(teongpeng @ Jan 16 2008, 11:51 PM) 10:15pm Sorry to hear of your loss. I seldom hear male rabbits dying of neutering, usually females are the ones who have complications. I spayed both of mine but they were fine though. Which vet did you go to? I brought mine to be spayed seperately. Don't want the doctots to be too tired while performing a delication operation and all. What what a day!!! i got both Pebbles and Bambam neutered today by a so called veteran vet. Expert of the experts. Cost also expert. RM200 satu ekor! what the heck just go with it la..... End result:- Pebbles is alive and well and is eating nonstop hay...looking healthy.... Bambam...now this one's a different story. Before took him home from the vet, he seemed to have woken up. Cant move straight though...wobbly and seem to lost his balance. the doc says its ok to take them home and i did...on reaching home the fella go and collapse on the floor without moving. still breathing. called the vet but noone answered. Girlfriend start to cry. so we quickly took him to another vet. spend more money. the vet gave bout 4 injections. took him back home again and..... as at time of writing, he's curled up like a ball....feet tensed, eyes closed, whole body stiff.... dont know wut to do.....pray he'll live thru the night. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 11:15pm Bambam leaped uncontrollably all of a sudden from his cocooned position, banging his body against the four walls of the cage. Horrible spasm course thru the entire body, legs convulsing in scary fashion....red shot eyes almost bulging from its socket......few moments later...lie down...gave out the most horrying yelp i've ever heard in a rabbit...then.... Rest in peace Bambam. Note: i do not blame either the vet who neutered him nor the vet who tried to save his life after that with 4 injections. I put it down to fate as all parties did their best. Though i did called the first vet to tell him of the death and get a long lecture on how not to simply take a zoo animal to a dog vet. |

Kembara I has a few similiar experience before although its not as bad in KL. Some of my friends cant belive I bring rabbit to vet either. Sometimes the other customer at the ve also remark on my rabbits.
sissonne neutered male + normal female normal male + spayed female both means no babies, but either party can be more dominent over each other and cause fighting. FYI spaying a female reduces her risk of ovarian cancer, but the procedure is more risky and a bit more expensive than neutering a male. |

Rabbits dont need bedding litter unless u plan to toilet train, but they need hay to eat. Its their main diet so its a must, although it can be pricey

QUOTE(sangterap @ Jan 29 2008, 08:22 PM) I have not seen much of this Kaytee pellet around but looking at their website, I believe the guarantee analysis is the best of the worst out of all the rabbit pellets available locally. Pets Family and Pets Safari carry Kaytee pellets but I heard they are recently out of stock. I'm going to open my Oxbow later today Is it easily available in all petshops or only certain petshops carry this brand? If I ever run out of Oxbow, I'll need to get this best of the worst brand. LOL..... The protein level is high because they use alfafa as main ingredient. I believe there is not enough timothy hay to go around to produce good pellets out of them. Wonder when will the day arrive when Oxbow is widely available in Malaysia and all those good for nothing brands from Japan can go to hell for all I care....totally hopeless. Malaysia RABBIT community NEEDS OXBOW or American Pet DINERS!!!!!!!! argGGhHHhhhhHHhh....so damn frustrating....can't even get good RABBIT pellets in MALAYSIA.....everything else BOLEH but rabbit pellet TAK BOLEH..... |

Nicoty I was looking thru your blog too. I have a friend whose rabbit died of chocolate poisoning when small kids fed her rabbit cookies. Please be aware chocolate is toxic to rabbits and will certainly kill them eventually if not immediately.

QUOTE(Biscuit @ Feb 5 2008, 03:39 PM) My cage, it's just like those ordinary cage you see at Pet Shops .. selling around RM 45 - 48 approximately. It depends on your bunny la, some anggora type rabbit have very thick fur on the feet, so less prone to sore hocks. If it has thin fur then its probably uncomfortable to have wire floor. If you are using wire floor just provide some mat or box at some parts of the cage so that bunny can rest there.I thought I read in few websites to use Wire Mesh instead of those thin aluminium / whatever silver color mesh .. That's why after the first few days seeing Loopii having difficulty in walking, i decided to go get the Wire Mesh and put it for him. It did struck me to get him rugs or whatsoever .. but those I see nearby my areas are usually the thick types ... trying to search for those thin floors ... well, he looked like it's easy to walk over here though .. ok, i think he's been sleeping most of the time after i put in the wire mesh =,= .. if only the toilet training went well .. then after couple of weeks, i'll let him roam around in my house .... right now, at times i let him run around =,= .. till he started ... peeing .. lol ... just poo is ok .. but when i see him pee, -->> -->> -->> -->> -->> Road Sign to Go Back Cage ... lol ... I tried putting him in my Car Porch yesterday. Can see him running and hiding in every obstacle to take a peep outside, then run back towards starting place. Everytime he hears a sound, he starts running and hiding behind a few obstacles till he reaches the front Porch to take a peek. .. How would I know whether the Wire Mesh is hurting his legs ? .. =,= .. I see Beh and other people using the same thing everywhere .. You know where can I have a look at the socks ? .. I've been thinking, by letting him hopping around here, maybe it would strengthen the base of his feet .. haha .. since you say it's harder to walk .. |

Actually in Malaysia we dont really need to vacinate our rabbits. The reason most rabbits die is because of improper diet, or early weaning, which is you bought it from pet shop at an early age. Most likely if u buy it @ 1-1.5 months old, the pet shop has removed it from its mum at 3 weeks old or earlier which is very bad for the immune system. A lot of baby bunnies die b4 they turn 4 months because of this.
I have spayed both my bunnies although both are female, its better for thier health. Dont think theres any injection that can rpevent breeding though. |

around 7 months -8 months old i think. Well each operation has its risks, thats something u hav to face. BUt the vet I went said so far he nvr lost any bunnies to spaying so I was a little more confident to take them to him.
