IMHO

I read almost all of u guys comment..

I kinda make some conclusion..

we actually alter them SO WE CAN FEEL CONVENIENT?

they won't be aggresive, bite, spraying their pee...

what about the Rabbit? s/he want it or not actually?

If I'm a rabbit..I prefer to be lock in cage for forever rather than being altered..

ok, we got all the spay and neuter in rabbits.
so do we have somethings like abortion in rabbits?
i know dog have but do rabbits have it?

i know it's kind of stupid question. maybe just forget it. hahahaha.
*
its not a stupid question smile.gif sometimes when a rabbit gets pregnant accidentally, an emergency spay can be performed to remove the babies and the uterus altogether

DJSPINET, u know any?

11JAN, i want to ask u since the first time i saw ur nick here... 11jan and SOMEBUNNY are the same person aaaa? Bcoz i wrote to SomeBunny before (in other forum), about my desicion to get Daddy Dino neutered. And until now still cant make up my mind laaa...

I'm also thinking about travelling my rabbits to kl, but i dont want to give any stress to my rabbits.. Travel = long journey = stress. Neutering = pain after surgery = stress. Stress + stress = ?????  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Vets specializing in small animals, no. In fact, have never found one at all.

But usually (at least with Proudfoot when she had her stroke, and my hamsters a long long time ago), I usually go to Gill's Vet along Gottlieb Road. They're quite good, although they do mostly cats & dogs (cos majority of pet owners in Penang are cat & dog owners), they also do some other common small animal pets like rabbits etc. They even have a website here: http://www.gillsvet.com/Home.htm

But I find the youngest son (Amreet) a bit... arrogant. He was the one who took a look at Proudfoot. He gave good advice (except maybe the yoghurt bit which is debatable cos its not easy to find live bacteria that's not swimming inside a lake of lactose in Penang).

I find Gill's vet a good place to socialize with other pet owners... funny but a nice touch nonetheless.

If you lock a male rabbit in a cage with food and a "pretty" girl rabbit...

You'll end up with hundreds of rabbits within one year...

Believe me, that's how my aunt accidentally ended up with 100 rabbits within 1 year a long long time ago...

Not to mention by the time you're 1-2 breedings down the road... you'll probably run out of space in that one locked up cage and have to find another one.

well if u were a rabbit, would you enjoy feeling threatened all the time? the minute something new comes into your territory, you feel the urge to attack? isnt that stressful? and feeling the constant urge to mate?

seriously, go read up more on the topic and come up with a proper basis to support your stance.. we are all for open discussion, but not if we're each just gonna assume to know how a rabbit thinks and make a decision based on something as arbitrary as that

anyway i think you are missing the point here.

what ppl are saying is not to breed irresponsibly. make sure u have a real solid purpose to breed, not just because you think a rabbit should get MARRIED. that issue does not have to be linked with spaying/neutering. if you are really that uncomfortable with the idea of a spay/neuter, then don't to it. keep your rabbit as a single rabbit.

cancer is not linked to being kept single. neither will breeding her eliminate the possibility of cancer.

as with everything in this world, there is no certainty. we can't tell you that your rabbit will definitely get cancer if she's not spayed, neither can we tell you she will never get cancer. and also, just because other rabbits are not getting cancer, doesn't mean your rabbit won't get cancer, and vice versa.

again, as i said earlier, do some research before deciding.

i went thru the same thing when deciding whether or not to spay my rabbit.

the original research which came to the conclusion that there is a 85% chance of females getting uterine cancer, was performed on a very small pool of white rabbits (new zealand whites, if i remember correctly). the gene pool was small and it seems a lot of those rabbits were related to each other, so the statistics could have been 85% because of a genetic problem.

that made me a bit uncertain about spaying my rabbit. but i tried to find out as much as i can.. and i came across many rabbit rescues in the US, they spay & neuter all rabbits which came into their rescue. from those spayed, the vets found that a lot of rabbits above 2 years had pre-cancerous cells in their uterus, which would have turned into full blown cancer had they not been spayed. a lot of rabbit rescues had this same finding. so the high statistics may be true, maybe its not as high as 85% but judging from the findings, it seems pretty high.

i also came across many people sharing their personal experiences on the internet.. some had rabbits which were not spayed..they lived fine for a few years, then one day, there was blood in the urine. long story short, it was an early sign of cancer. some of these ppl managed to get emergency spays done on their rabbits, and they have lived a healthy life since. some were not so lucky, their rabbits were too old to be spayed and they had to watch their rabbit die from cancer, something they could have prevented had they sent the rabbit for a spay when she was younger.

end of the day, the decision is yours as the owner.

i chose to spay my rabbit, 1) because it is a very very safe procedure when done by an experienced vet, and recovery time was only about 2 - 3 days, small price to pay for her health, and 2) because I will not be able to forgive myself if one day, she died of uterine cancer because i thought it was 'wrong' to spay her when she was young, and 3) I can get her another companion

having said that, there are still many other illnesses which could kill a rabbit. but at least i have one less illness to worry about smile.gif

21-1, Dataran Sunway, Jln PJU 5/13, Kota Damansara, 47000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Phone: 03-6156 2478

neuter: about RM190
spay: about RM220

the price will vary depending on what other meds the vet may need to use for the procedure, and also if you choose to use an E-collar on the rabbit or surgical bandage post-surgery etc etc

the price may seem high at first, but consider that its for an entire lifetime.. and in other countries, it costs wayyy more. eg in SG, the figure is the same, but in SGD. in US, starts from USD200 onwards, some even USD400++

you have a very very wrong idea and concept about spaying and neuter.
we do it not for our own convenient although it does help us in the future.
spaying cost money, after medication and extra care during the recovery.

it is for their own good. since you only have one female rabbit,
i think it is still ok although there is a high risk of getting cancer in the future.

my bambi is a female 4 months plus old and she is getting very aggresive recently.
if you read my post before i did mentioned that she bite my hand and attacked me until bleeding.
her hormones is rushing and she even attacked my other rabbits, sissy and snowie.

sissy is male and he is getting aggresive also. he like bambi but bambi don like him.
snowie on the other hand like sissy but sissy don like her.
so he will attack her sometimes.

how i resolve it? cage them in 3 different cages. and they feel lonely. sad.gif
rabbits are very socialable animal by nature, unless during mating season where all animals get a bit tension and aggresive.
they like to keep company and play around.
when i let them out, they will come close to me, but don allow me to touch them especially bambi.
they will make growling sound and "paddle" my hand off.
when they see other rabbits get close to me, they will fight them off, bambi and snowie case.

i decided to spay and neuter my rabbit not for my own convenience. it is for their own good.
first health and second social life.

since you take your own example as rabbit, now we shift place.
make the rabbit a human, do you like to become someone that get locked in a house and never have any boyfriend and girlfriend?
never married and have kids? and end up having prostate cancer?
better have it cut off and live a longer life. (i wonder if this is the main reason why last time eunuch life so long until some can serve 2 emperor)

or do you wan to be lock inside a room and getting rape over and over by a physco rapist?
if you are male, you probably will feel happy but what if you are the female?
you may end up with trauma and phobia.
also, animal don mate because they are having fun, they just mate due to instinct.

i gave a very weird example. i hope you understand me. hahaha.

yeah, just like what bebee say.
a few more monthS and you will know why bambi attacked me.
they either grow very fond of you (which mean they wan to mate with you)
or they turn to hate you (which mean they wan to look for another mate).

i'm not trying to scare you or joke around.
your rabbit might turn out differently but in my case, they take me offensively.
