I'm currently learning guitar.A few months ago i watched a singing show call "xin guang bang" and there's a guy in it call"xiao jin teng" , his way of singing and playing of keyboard has influence me.He's using Yamaha PSR-S500 which i think is too exp and not suitable for me. And now, i would like to get a keyboard for self learning at home. i'm isn't poor nor rich.so my budget is around rm 200-rm300 only. I don't know anything about piano so hope anyone can tell me ... whats the different between 49 ,61, 76, 88 keys ? whats the dif between midi keyboard and portable keyboard ? which one should i get ? Thanx This post has been edited by raining again: Jan 10 2008, 11:59 PM

Thanx 49 61 76 88 are the number of keys there are on the keyboard.. The more keys, the more notes you have.

For 300 bucks, I think you can only get those very low end Casio keyboards (those with built-in songs).. which I think is not worth... The entry level Yamaha portable keyboard with their very realistic grand piano (touch sensitive) sound is about 800 bucks..
Midi keyboards and portable keyboards are basically the same thing.. MIDI is a digital interface for audio triggering...Both these keyboards produce sound using synthesizers and samples.. You can try and find MIDI keyboard controllers..It looks like a keyboard which needs to be plugged into a PC that relies on the computer for sounds and effects... These are cheaper then workstations yet they are more expandable soundwise as all the sampling and processing are carried out in the PC..

If you are really tight on budget and dont mind the quality, u can always buy those from Giant or Tesco for less than RM150. But the feel and the sound is compromised.

those are REALLY toys. Best to start wit ha decent RM800 onwards. Then you wont get fed up so easily cos the toy keyboard will sound annoying sooner than you think.
