QUOTE(nujikabane @ Jun 13 2009, 06:23 PM) That clears the doubt I have, thanks cherroy hi, im learning how to calculate dividend too.. Perhaps my last question for the day is regarding the dividends. Say, a company declraes a dividend payment of first & final of 3c, does that mean there will be two payment (1 for first, 1 for final) ? And if the Company Z declares final 3c, is the calculation like this? : Say I own 30,000 shares (300 x 100 shares) of Company Z, is the dividend that I will get is RM6 ? (30,000shares x RM0.02) isnt 30,000 X RM0.02 = RM600 ? do you to convert back to RM6 ?? |

QUOTE(Mikiyo @ Jun 19 2009, 10:19 PM) Hi guys, i have a question regarding the stamp fee. Lets say i were to buy a share at 0.835 20000 shares online and sold it at the same day. THe rate is 0.15% right? So its 20000*0.835*0.15% = RM25.05 As mentioned earlier, the minimum brokerage fee is RM40 Must i pay the RM25 or RM40? Is there any other fees that i must account beside the RM40? Or the total cost is only RM40? 3 fees to take note when u make a transaction.. 1)Brokerage - varies.. im using Maybank, so let me use maybank's online rate as example. 0.42% of contract value (for all transactions inclduding intraday) - minimum RM28 2)Stamp Duty - RM1.00 for every 1000 or part, of contract value 3)Clearing Fee - 0.03% of contract value with no minimum so, your transaction cost should be: Brokerage + Clearing Fee + Stamp Duty + Contract Value (20000 * 0.835 * 0.42%) + (20000 * 0.835 * 0.03%) + (Ceiling(20000 * 0.835 / 1000) + (20000 * 0.835) = 70.14 + 5.01 + 17 + 16700 = 16792.15 |

Hi,
I need some help with Gearing i've searched the FAQ and beginner's section but couldnt find the answer. Investopedia defines gearing as A fundamental analysis ratio of a company's level of long-term debt compared to its equity capital. Gearing is expressed in percentage form. Companies with high gearing - more long-term liabilities than shareholder equity - are considered speculative. While in wikipedia shows the formula to calculate gearing : debt to equity ration = D/E 1)Personally, I think it is good to look at gearing as well on top of PER, Is it a good practise or something redundant ? 2)Where can I find out a company's gearing? It is in most research papers, but most of the time getting the research paper for a particular company is the problem. 3)If I have to calculate gearing myself, can i use the formula from wiki ? I can get the debt value from financial report, what about equity ? Is equity the market capital of the company ? 4)Also, what does the gearing on warrant's page mean ? Is it the mother share's gearing or the warant's gearing ? Thanks a lot.. This post has been edited by mopster: Aug 1 2009, 12:11 AM |

hihi progamerCF,
I'm also new in stock trading, let's learn together... 1)If you read the interim reports and annual reports, you can find a section where they calculate EPS for you.. for example TM's 2nd quarter report page 26 u can see: Profit: 266M Number of shares: 3,519.1M EPS: 0.76 you can get past results either from KLSE or the respective company's website (if they update) 2)Yes, Just sum up 4quarters EPS to get the annual EPS. If you just want Q2 EPS, then just use Q2-earning/Q2-number of shares. Please refer to annual reports/interim reports, you can understand better from there. 3)By PE are u referring to Price-Earning ? If you are then i think it is based on each Public Listed Company and not the whole Industry... I dont know that there is PE for the whole industry. If im not wrong usually they take past 4quarters earnings and divide by latest share price.. then u will get PER. Again, lets take TM as an example, last years annual (4 quarters) EPS was 23.00cents last traded at 3.05 PER: 3.05/0.23 = 13.26 |

QUOTE(changccs @ Nov 5 2009, 09:57 PM) i am a student,i use my own money to trade, if i bank in rm5000 to my trading acount, i buy 1000 share at RM5 , if the price drop till RM 4.8, do i need to pay the loss to my broker firm after T+3? There are 2 scenarios:If you buy and sell within T+3 and sell at a loss then yes, you have to pay the difference in price. This is also known as Contra. If you buy and settle the payment in Full Latest by T+3 then u dont have pay for the loss if it drops. That is because you already owned the 1000 shares. It can drop to 0.00 and you dont have to fork out extra money.. btw, with rm5000 i dun think u can buy 1000 of RM5 shares because of Brokerage + stamp duty + clearance fee.. have fun trading This post has been edited by mopster: Nov 5 2009, 10:29 PM |

QUOTE(darude87 @ Nov 17 2009, 06:39 PM) hi guys, sry to break your conversation... hi, i dont trade futures but imo, u need to pick one that:i'm new to share market, but i've understand most of the terms and cond (hopefully i did, lol) right now i'm interested to start off with future trading(duno what you call that lol). but according to my parents, i need cds account, so which bank or security firm is suggested? ~Offers Future Trading, ~Offers Reliable Trading Platform, ~Offers Reliable Customer Service (dealer/remisier), ~Offers Convenient ways for you to settle payments (ie near your house/office/online) I wouldnt recommend you to start with Futures, but you have all the right to decide.. cheers Added: here is a list of Futures Brokers by Bursa Malaysia http://www.klse.com.my/website/bm/brokers/...atives_tps.html Added on November 17, 2009, 10:10 pm QUOTE(wwyip81 @ Nov 17 2009, 09:28 PM) hi, i'm noobie new, need to ask a question... BUY Column:I understand there is buy and sell column in trading, is the price in BUY column refer to the price people in the market want to buy that particular stock? And price in SELL column refer to the price people wanna sell at? I'm also confuse the price show in LAST column, how come sometimes it same with the BUY price but sometimes same with the SELL price? Don't it should refer to the BUY price? Hope to get sifus here to clear my doubt. Traders want to Buy at this Price. You sell at this price to Buyer. The B-Q Column shows how many shares they are willing to buy SELL Column: Traders want to Sell at this Price. You pay this price when you Buy from Seller. The S-Q Column shows how many shares they are willing to sell LAST Column: Shows the price of most recent transaction which could be a sell/buy transaction btw i'm not sifu as well.. just happen to know this... haha This post has been edited by mopster: Nov 17 2009, 10:11 PM |

@kochin:
means u can buy an additional share for Rm1.60 for each share you already own. You should ask your dealer on the buying process. I think you need to submit some forms and make payments separately. Also take note that MAS price will be adjusted after the end of the exercise. RI is like forcing investors to fork out more money.. because if you dont subscribe to RI, you lose out because there will be share dilution.. Added on I wonder... What are shareholders' value to the company? When we hold/buy share, are we contributing anything to the company at all ? I know companies go public to raise capital, but the trading after that doesnt make any impact to them, does it ? LOL this is a beginner beginner's question... Coz I'm thinking, if shareholders are of no value besides going to AGM to complain and leech dividend, why would the company management want to care so much for them ? QUOTE(advocado @ Apr 22 2010, 10:16 PM) Am curious is there any difference in owning a share from stockmarket & owning shares as a shareholder? This post has been edited by mopster: Apr 23 2010, 12:20 AMafaik owning a share from stockmarket means u r a shareholder la... Shareholder gets annual dividends while also have the option to buy/sell their shares but do owning shares from stockmarket provide dividends or you can just buy & sell your share for profits? not all shares pay divvy~~ u can buy to get divvy and also sell the shares for profit.. or even both... your choice Can you enter the board if you become a major shareholder by buying alot in the market? you are a major shareholder if u have enough $$ to buy 5% of a company's issued shares their IR and do off-market deals.. maybe they'll give u some discount... If we want dividend how do we get it or the company will automatic transfer dividends into your account? currently they will send chqeue to your address if u are using Direct CDS and bank in to your Nominee acc if you are using Nominee account. Transfer divvy into ur banking account is being implemented and will start by 1st september 2010 |
