QUOTE(htt @ Mar 1 2010, 11:56 AM) Trader moving fast, trade day in day out earn money. Investor buy and hold, once in a while take profit/ dividend earn money. Roughly only. That's good, then throw in the ratio and the balance sheet knowledge then you are almost there, plus industrial knowledge and macro economy as well, add in micro will be even better. But that things built over the years... For trader they like chart and other tools (I never like that), for that part of skill you need to go to the main tread and ask them OOOH....haha...of course i prefer trader then....fast... then if i wan to be a trader...the 1st thing i have to do is also opening an account in any of the securities co is it? what account will that called?

Yes, some one need to be buying in order for your stock to be sold. Which is what we ment when we say Supply (sellers) and demand (buyers). Normally most counters will have some people queuing to buy the stock at different prices. And also people queuing to sell at different prices. All matching buy/sell orders will be executed. SO if you intent to buy something for a specified price, someone needs to be queuing to sell to you, if not, your buy order will be queued in to the system. Dealers are just middle man that executes your orders.

Yes you can, but be aware that if you do not have any holdings and your sell order is matched, you are liable for short selling which might incur you losses and fines. So if you do have some of the stocks in hand, you can set up a low buy order to collect more and at the same time put up a sell order for higher. You are not allowed to sell anything you do not own. Also since it is a queue system, your orders might not be fully matched. For instance you queue 100 lots for sale, but only 1 lot is matched. Your cost of selling might exceed your actual profit.

It is quite a big offence to short sell a stock. I don't think anyone would risk oneself to earn such a peanut profit. What if all people sell to you at 0.095 and then price sink to 0.08?

Want to know,
I want to start my investment with literally little money (around RM1800) and am thinking of going for 2-3 of the div counters, compounding them every month (around RM750 per month top up) and hold on to them for a long time and using the div received to grow my capital.
Is this a sound plan to be use in malaysian market or is it better to have another option open (put some into div counters and trade some actively or focus into one div counter and top up)?

Fyi, in reality, very little or only small percentage of investors trade actively and make money out of it by actively trade. There is no single investment strategy work all the time. It depends on individual situation as well as market/economy situation. Having said that, able to pin-point a good and fundamental sound company is the first priority for long term investment.

QUOTE(jasonkwk @ Jan 27 2010, 11:39 AM) Anyone who are into value investing, know what is the formula to calculate the intrinsic value of the stock. (% Net Profit + % Dividends) / Price to Book = Result VS stock price that u r targeting. Formula of value stock pick used by Warren Buffet but this is basic only. Most of the time, they used more advanced formula including maths formula. For my case, most of the time i close my eyes & buy or sell.. This post has been edited by mazda626: Mar 11 2010, 02:10 AM

Recently I was introduced to the concept of Security Market Line which is graph where x-axis represent the expected return and the y-axis is the risk of investment in the form of Beta.
Basing on this, where can I get to see this in real life application? Links?
Also, where can i find out the annualized mean rtn of KLCI index?
Thanks,
Xuzen

I was practicing on calculating ROE and the result were different than the one I'm referring to. Thought my calculation was wrong which in fact, we're just using different source. Now I'm using NextView's. Anybody using it? Reliable? Thanks in advance!
