Ya.. the new spider is big adult spider. Same size like the banglo spider.
So far most of the males spider i caught cant give any good fight for banglo spider. Just few push den ran away ady. Now the new adult spider kecut ady. alwys run when see other spider. Will need few days bfr it can be brave 2 fight again. The best fight so far is still my house garden spider vs banana leaf spider. Can see the fight last longer abit and got few bitting here and there bfr one ran off. v_viper88 QUOTE(Mangrovejumper @ Jan 25 2008, 10:50 AM) Added on January 25, 2008, 9:38 pmHiya.... not many LYN people here interested to play fighting spider ar? yo, guys, yesterday busy so din surf.
Yeah. Big spider doesnt mean fierce. may need to keep a while to see. Let it keep fighting smaller males. Then after few days try again with banglo. maybe fight will be better then again maybe not. Fierce spiders not easy to find. Your banglo spider is building up a lot of confidence. Good ah. I remember once my elder brother and I each caught our first king. That time i was maybe primary 2 or 3 studying in singapore and he is primary 6. Our dad was away on company business trip so we decided to keep our first kings until our dad come back so he also can watch the fight. We kept it like for about a week or so. That time seems long to me because as small kid so eager to see the fight and also half the day after school noting to do but play spider. So we both trained our first king. I keep letting it fight other spiders hoping maybe to find another first king and also training. But this king stayed as first king. My brother also the same. Everyday we feed it big big. Both our spiders nearly same size. Both spiders never fought before. For this long we keep it until dad came home. Then we fight, it was around noon i remember. Both placed on match box. Wah.... strong fight...chop chop push push chop again and again then they went onto my hand as i was holding the match box...still fighting on my forearm!! They fought halfway down my forearm. Geng man. But i could see mine constantly being chop and push backwards. Eventually mine lost. So sad that time. I remember on the same day... i went out to find some more spiders. I climb onto railings beside a moonson drain and catch spider from some very small leaf creepers (just enough to fit one spider) growing on some school fence next to the railings. And i caught 2 males...very sensitive..slightly open leaf already jump out. But unfortunately for the spiders...it jump onto dry flat cement land with only a bit of short grass..easily catch la. Then I fought it with my first king...first king lost! New king...very fierce. Later my old first king grew very old and black and I let it go... What happened to my new first king and my brother spider...i cannot remember... wheather they fought also cannot remember. Hehe...nice memories but sometimes not complete... Date - 24/1/08 (Fri)
Time spent - 6.00pm - 7.30pm Venue - Puchong Reason there - Got home early because meeting with boss ended early Venue type - Roadside..new housing area Plant type - Shade - Tall wayside trees, shrubs- 3 leave creeper(those found in kelapa sawit plantation) Insects - no mosquitoes!..got la..one or two, fruit flies, gnats This is a nice place to catch spiders. It's safe because its beside the road. Across the road is a new fully occupied rumah pangsa with people going in and out. This road leads to a dead end, but not for long cuz development is going on. Beside the road are tall way sidetrees, and a deep drain but can easily step over. After that the land drops and you have the shrubs running parallel with the road. After that is actually a bare muddy shallow ditch and then you have vast area(5-10 arces maybe) of flat, cleared land ready for housing development. I went down behind the shrubs..so while I am actually inches away from public but I can't be seen becuz of the scrubs and I am stepping on land about 5 feet lower than the road. I was skeptical wheather there are any spiders here because while i heard these plants got spiders, I have hardly catch any from them in my life. So I searched...found a young. Got la...Search somemore... a fat adult female. I din catch it. Found another female with eggs. Ok la...sure got male somewhere. Aha...found one..I saw its tail when i open a leave in the shrubs...I quickly let it close back. I took my plastic bag and carefully place it under the nest...then i carefully cut the leaves. After securing the nest in the bag. I look inside the nest. Ah? no spider. I look at the plastic bag. Also no spider. Wah so fast jump already. The location is such that it is no point waiting because the area it probably has jump into is deep in the shrub, full of branches and very dark and deep. Aiyah.. So i continue to search. Actually there was only a small patch of land than can easily stand there. Further along the shrubs and grass is the yellow mud ditch. While the ditch is only shallow rain water..the mud is quite thick and soft so it was difficult to walk along the shrubs. Only certain places can easily stand while others impossible without either flattening the shrubs or standing in the mud. But anyway I tried. Guess wat. In total I probably found about 4 adult females with eggs and 4 very fat adult females and several young spiders. Except for the male that got away..cannot find any other male!! Not even small one. Surely there must be more than one male to fertilize so many females. And I'm quite sure hardly anyone would come here because there was no tracks and the plants were not flatten before I came. The total length of the roadside shrubs I search was maybe 20-25 feet. Then while I was squating down and searching somewhere along the little path to come down, I suddenly looked down and saw leeches!! Wah... 5-6 of them all crawling towards me. One or two climbing up my shoe and one on my tracks! Yikes, I stood up and took out my scissors and cut 2-3 of them in half. This part of the area got a lot of leeches because it was near a drain coming from the flats and have kangkong plants around. So I moved further away towards cleared standing ground. Phew. Nevertheless despite much searching till almost dark, 7.30-7-45pm, I couldnt find another male. I was so dissatisfied. I took home one fat female and accidently one female with eggs(cuz i didnt know it had eggs when i cut the nest). I think to myself, "I'm coming back." Added on January 26, 2008, 3:17 amDate - 25/1/08 (Fri) Time spent - 6.00pm - 7.30pm Venue - same as above Reason there - Half day Venue type - same as above Plant type - same as above Insects - same as above I'm back! Haha. Now now where are you mr. male? As I was walking down, I noticed there are MORE leeches because it rained a bit earlier. So they can crawl about much more. (leeches need to be in constant contact with moisture..otherwise they dry up and die) Within 2 minutes I was there, I was surrounded by leeches!! 5-6 climbing up my shoes, 2 on my socks, trying to bite through! another 2 climbing up my tracks. OMG...how to continue? I searched for my scissors...alamak didn't bring. Then got an idea. I took out my mosquitoe repellent branded "OFF". I smeared some onto a leech as it was biting my hand. Off it fell. Aha. It works. Yes, this brand of mosquitoe repellent contain the active ingredient DEET and leeches are afraid of it. I was once told by my fishing friend that he sprayed baigon onto his boots whenever he fishes deep in the jungle and no leech would climb up. Maybe baigon contain similar chemical. So i started smearing OFF around my shoes and my arms and on all those @#%$ leeches climbing on me. All fell off. Phew, problem settled. Continue hunting. As I was searching around the shrub, I looked back and saw a bright young female walking around where i just stepped. Ah... maybe virgin female for bighead. As I was about to catch it, I saw nest 2 inch from the ground...and legs...of a male. Ah.. gotcha. Before I could catch it, I heard someone walking round the shrub toward me... Eh? who come here? it was a malay guy carrying a 1 year old kid, plucking some plants(not kangkong). When he saw me, he stopped and then turned to go into the kangkong area, still plucking. I said to him, "Boleh makan ke?" He said, "Boleh...ini pucuk paku(ferns shoot)" He continued," Good for health, this is organic food!" I said, "Wah, sini banyak pacat(leeches) la". He said," Ya, I SUKA pacat!Pacat gigit boleh keluarkan darah kotor!" WALAU. Good la. Hopefully all the pacat go to him since he moving around so much and in the area full of them. Both i pity the kid he was carrying becuz only got short sleeves shirt and shorts on. His bare footed legs were danggling and touching those kangkong as his dad bend down to pluck his salad. You know la, when there is movement, these leeches would climb up plants with their body standing and blood sucking mouth held high up to latch onto its victim once they pass by. Anyway... this time I caught the male. Average size. But matured male. Probably the romeo which have been going round. Happy. After some searching I got bored because cannot find, so I started catching fruit flies and some other types of flies to bring home. Then I decided to walk the vast land to just look around. As I walk i realize the end of this land is actually...undeveloped forest land. While visible it is quite far, maybe half km or more. At the edge are some banana trees and shrubs...Ah...new place, new hope. Suddenly i looked, wah...got cows coming towards me to graze on the plants growing on this land. I looked at the 2 cows, they looked at me. I think maybe another day.. so I turned back towards the road. i then decided i want to explore further up the road. So I went back on the road and started walking towards the dead end. There were many shrubs and different type of plants... here and there i looked i saw some young. People opposite walking home from school were probably wondering what i was searching for..but i dont care la. Not doing crime. Eventually I saw a nest which the top leaf is big and rough type. The bottom a smaller leave..inside a big male... nice. I used my fingernails to very slowly break the stem of the leaves. Once on some bare ground, I squeezed it out and put in my container. Young male, bright colour. Big but not very big. Maybe can win bigguns. It was nearly 7.35pm. Almost night already... so i headed back to my car some 200meters away. Happy ending for the day... New spiders 1. first spider - i call Lowland cuz found on lowland 2. 2nd spider - i call Bigleaf cuz found on bigleave Fight time for new spiders 1. Lowland(topright) vs topman(bottomleft) - lowland won with 1 chop 2. Bigguns(topright) vs lowland(bottomleft) - lowland lost with just long push 3. Bigguns(right) vs Bigleaf - Bigleaf lost with just 1 chop 4. Bigleaf vs lowland - Bigleaf won with push Aiyah..new spiders not so geng afterall. Fights not exciting so no point uploading video clips. Lowland is bigger than topman, hence easy win. Maybe bigleaf still young, so no challenge for bigguns. But can see bigleaf maybe very very slightly smaller than bigguns. Bighead is way above. I fought bighead and bigguns a couple of times. Hardly even one chop bigguns fled. Even when i took bigguns while it was actively walking round its home and bighead was sleeping quietly. I havent seen bigguns fought a good fight before. Current male ranking 1. Bighead 2. Bigguns 3. Bigleaf 4. Lowland 5. Topman 6. Bro1 7. Blurman 8. Bro2 The reason i separated the rankings as such is because of size matching. The exciting matches is actually from the bottom. Topman, Bro1 and Blurman fighting with each is much more exciting because they are fairly evenly matched in size. Blurman is a rising star. It has one trait u can count on. It will chop FIRST. Actually Blurman arms are longer than topman. Later I'll upload some cool clips from these trio. Here is a comparison between bighead and topman. No need say who win this fight. BigLeaf looks like a good sized challenger. |

Lets look at the fights of blurman. Although at this point of time he lost almost all its fight, but he is a good fighter.
The reason is because although he starts with pushing but so far he always manage to be the first to chop the other spider. Blurman Caught on 17/01/08 in Ampang as a "medium" sized male(havent changed skin) 20/1/08 - changed skin - see post #51, page3 21/01/08 bro2 vs blurman(lost) - longpush 22/01/08(2nd day after changed skin) blurman(won) vs bro2 - shortpush bro1 vs blurman(lost) - 1 chop by blurman first bro1(top) vs blurman(bottom) see video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ld5vbQm3Qk 23/01/08 bro2 vs blurman(lost) Blurman lost back to bro2 but blurman initiated 3 chops! It lost most probably because bro2 has an advantage called backup support advantage. Spiders that are pushed to a corner will fight a bit harder because it thinks it can't escape. Because blurman still young it fled after finding bro2 standing firm for so long. bro2(left) vs blurman(right) see video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNWoeqrDQGc 25/01/08 bro1 vs blurman(lost) - blurman again chop first and push bro1 until they rolled off the leave!!... cant see already. But after that I think bro1 won because blurman a bit kecut. So i dont fight them. bro1(right) vs blurman(left) see video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ieurw6azjik Now i'm feeding a lot to blurman. See how he fair a few days from now. Do you think in 3 days blurman will eventually win bro1 and topman? |

Yesterday met up with Mindstorm for spider fight in the evening
He brought all his spiders.. got about 6 spiders. His Big Head and Big Gun is really big... much bigger than my Banglo spider. Its been very long time since i saw and play with big fighting spiders. Mindstorm spiders really big and Keng! I choose to fight with his smallest spider - Bro1, slightly smaller size than Banglo but Bro1 arms is longer abit. Just some arm pushing and i think got 1 chop before Bro1 ran away. 2nd Match fight with LowLand spider. LowLand spider slightly bigger size. Arm pushing only and Banglo spider ran off. Try to fight again but still same short push and retreat. Mindstorm got capture the fight using his webcam. Later he'll post it up here. I didn't fight with Mindstorm other spider coz its size is much bigger. Mindstorm gave me his spider - LowLand as a present Man.. i prefer to get Big Guns or Big Head instead Yeah. Mindstorm, do post up all your long spider fighter match.. damn good fight.. I want to save it and keep as collection. This morning i let Banglo fight with LowLand. Working afternoon shift 2day.. 1st round Both arm pushing and 2-3 chops. The last chop sent LowLand ran away. Wow.. didn't expect Banglo can win coz yesterday lost. 2nd round. Again... strong pushing by both spiders. LowLand give good counter attck. Each spider chop once and in the end Banglo retreat. 3rd round. Arm pushing and again.. got 3chops. The last chop from LowLand made Banglo retreat. LowLand is the winner. No pics or video. Today fight between Banglo and LowLand is exciting. Both spider can continuous fight 3 rounds and not kecut. Good fighters. v_viper88 |

Whoa, I'm envious. Sounds like it was good fun.
I don't know if Ulu Ulu places necessarily have the best fighting spiders. Bighead was caught in the middle of the city, in a place with very few predators and a gardener to take care of the plants. Unfortunately you have to pay to get in. |

What a day that was!
Good to hear lowland and banglo are putting up a good show for you. As i mentioned before in one of my youtube videos, nice fights come from evenly matched sized spiders which are not too kecut. Having a huge spider by itself like bighead is not much fun(although happy and proud to have him, thanks Dan) because no other spider comes close to putting up a good fight with him. Thanks, viper, for showing me around your area and places where you got your spideys. You stay in a beautiful place. Viper also brought me up to a high spot where I can view KLCC and many parts of KL. Cool Anyway, here are the fight pics. I didn't upload the clips cuz they were quite short fights and also I seem to have trouble trying to upload to youtube, very slow these past 2 days, even though I try getting up at 4 to upload or early morning at 8am. 1. Banglo(top) vs Bro1(bottom) Comments: Banglo won with one chop. The chop was a fast one. Bro1 did not hold on when chop but straight away fled. Bro1 did not put up a fight with Banglo although I thot they quite similar size. From pics looks like bro1 bigger but that's because my video was angled with bro1 nearer. 2. Lowland(right) vs Banglo(left) Comments: At first Banglo push Lowland backwards a few steps but after that lowland won while still pushing. No chop. Maybe Banglo tired after previous fight. Sometimes we should not assume spiders wont get tired even if one chop or just push. I think any animal fighting will get tired. We fight second time almost immediately after first fight. Next time we better let a spider rest 5-10 min before fighting. If you keep your spiders healthy they will fight well many times. Although important to feed your spider daily, I realize overfed spiders with very fat abdomen don't really fight that fiercely. We think that with a fat abdomen, the spider will be heavier and hence harder for the opponent to push it or lift it. However a fat abdomen also becomes a burden to the spider because the abdomen is behind the legs hence it will actually weigh the spider down and makes it harder for it to push forward too. Interestingly pushing is not only a test of strength but also to see who is taller? The spider on the left which stood a bit taller won the push in this old pic i have This post has been edited by mindstorm: Jan 29 2008, 01:57 PM |

On Sunday before I met viper i also went to scout for spiders.
I was in kepong and went to a nearby forest. Still outside in civilized area before reaching the forest, I found the most crippled male I ever caught in my life from the wild..five legs only. Wonder how it lost so many legs. 2 from left, and one from right. May have been attacked by ants. When I drop him, he doesn't bother climbing up his own web, he just drop all the way. First pic - caught him in this plants. Viper: Are these daun sirih leaves you were talking about? Second pic - Wonder how he still manage to survive. After walking about 15-20min I came to the forest edge. I saw quite suitable plants here and there and open a few nests. I saw a few tiny small young. Got la. So I search somemore. Now I am about 10 meters into the forest path when I opened a nest, I saw a funny looking spider I never seen before. It is quite small, all black, thin, but have long arms. Its tail move up and down slowly while walking. Quite difficult to catch. It is restless and wouldn't keep still once out in the open. I tried to catch it, but it kept jumping from one leave to another... until it came near another nest... I couldnt resist opening that nest... wooooh... I saw a THIANIA...BUT NOT BHAMOENSIS. Another species but same genus. This one was big but is old cuz of its movement. It is a female because there is a broken old egg nest in its nest. From the big you can see that this thiania full grown head size is much bigger than our normal fighting spiders. Apparently the small ones I saw earlier which i thot was thiania bhamoensis were not but another type. I tried to find for about another hour for a male specimen but in vain. I caught a few younger ones and took them home to rear them. left-jungle plants, right - jungle path new thiania - smaller specimen new thiania - bigger specimen(old female) Bro2 trying to mate the old female - notice the head size difference The small black spider which brought me to the new thiania species...itself maybe a thiania. Notice the sharp spikes on its arms. Our normal fighting spider also got...but barely visible. After searching for so long and cannot find the male specimen, i thot maybe they live up the trees! I tried shaking violently a couple of small trees to see wheather any would drop down...nope, none. Second pic shows a how secure their nest can be. Look at the number of webs they create to secure the two leaves. But this is a dried up leave of a empty nest i found already fallen on the ground. I believe the male specimen looks like this(pic taken by a macro photographer) http://www.apbworks.co.nz/ft_06.htm This post has been edited by mindstorm: Jan 29 2008, 03:15 PM |

He must have just gotten hurt recently, because I doubt he could catch anything with just 2 legs. I once saw a chop female that was very hurt too, but I don't remember the details.I was in kepong and went to a nearby forest. Thanks for posting the variant Thianias. Very cool to look at. I'm thinking, to find a challenger to Bighead, you have to go back to the same place he was caught. Nope. This is the daun sirih which i used to catch the spider in skool.

At 1st before fight, i think Bro1 long arm will have more advantage over Banglo. Bro1 left arm seems longer than his right arm. Longer arm can I think Bro1 lost because he had fought with few other strong spider earlier like Blurman etcs... Ya, the taller spider will have advantage to bite or push its enemy during fight. Both spider will stand higher during fight to give itself a better fighting position. Some fierce spider can bite its enemy so hard till it ran away. I got saw before a fighting spider lost one of its teeth during fight. Got bitten off by its opponent v_viper88 QUOTE(mindstorm @ Jan 29 2008, 01:22 PM) 1. Banglo(top) vs Bro1(bottom) This post has been edited by viper88: Jan 30 2008, 07:08 PMComments: Banglo won with one chop. The chop was a fast one. Bro1 did not hold on when chop but straight away fled. Bro1 did not put up a fight with Banglo although I thot they quite similar size. From pics looks like bro1 bigger but that's because my video was angled with bro1 nearer. Interestingly pushing is not only a test of strength but also to see who is taller? The spider on the left which stood a bit taller won the push in this old pic i have |

Try to look for leaves tat overlapping each other. Normally the leaves are big like ur palm size. Sometimes those small long leaf like Lily, pandan oso got fighting spider. Try to open the leaf slowly and c whether got spider inside onot. If got, try to cut off its rear end bring it out to more wide area and put it into a case. Remember to cut and take the leaf slowly.. the spiders are quite wild, it will ran or jump off from the leaf very fast if u are not careful.
Check out today fight. Banglo vs Lowland. Banglo is running here and there eventho saw LowLand already waiting to fight. Banglo doesnt seem want to fight aggressively more like wanna run away. The arm attack from both spider lasted quite awhile, Banglo able to push Lowland few step back and just with 1 chop defeated LowLand. Heres the video. Should wait and see Mindstorm spider fight video. He got one video where both the spider fight fiercely bitting each others so many times without retreat. Its a long fight. In the end, the spider which lost retreat but managed to injured its opponent leg also. Wow... wat a fight. v_viper88 QUOTE(Lockheart @ Jan 30 2008, 08:22 PM) |
