wa....den the babies sure very geng to fight lor?How u breed? The male won't fight wif the female merz?Urs look really huge....Wat is golden spider?Got sample pic?
*
Well hopefully. I believe fighting ability genes can be passed down. If by selective breeding we can get tougher fighting spiders then the fights would be longer lasting.

Heh.. if male fight with female, how to continue the species?!

My female normal size only.

See golden spider(named by my fren and me because of its color) female below. Also known as the mangrove jumper(actual common name). Actually size for size golden spider is considered the toughest and fiercest jumper spider i know(maybe got some others i dunno know yet). Their body is like a tank!
If you put a fighting spider there, there is high possibility your fighting spider kena makan even though they are nearly the same length. They will even attack face-on and pierce their big sharp teeth directly into the head of a fighting spider if the fighting spider does not raise its fang fast enough. They can easily attack from side or back...any direction. Pretty scary. I used to play a lot with it last time because my house in SS2 got a mango tree full of it. I find the female golden more fierce than the male although the male got very long fangs which is bend inwards when resting. When it fights, waloa, u can see its very long fangs. I think my fren kena bitten once by them....maybe he can tell u the story...he is none other than Mangrovejumper!

Golden spider are tree spiders unlike fighting spider(which are shrub spiders). Last time I usually find them in rambutan, mango or kelapa sawit tree. If ur garden have a old big rambutan or mango tree, probably u can find them too. They like to make their nest in dead brown leaves that happen to be still stuck to tree, but sometimes also in green leaves. They seem to like very dark nest so that if another spider happen to wander through, it will become food before it knows what hit it.

For a picture of the male golden, see http://tramontina.fotopages.com/?entry=1297453
The top most middle picture. It has white eye shadow! hehe

Top of my containers is actually cloth netting which i cut from leftover curtain cloth. The container i cut out one big hole mah. Then i just drip wax from a candle to seal the netting to the sides of the hole.

Yea, never put spider in car unattended. 100% die when sun comes out.

Woohoo!! Your spider big la! The arms so looonng flex.gif ...way longer than its body. Now got challenger for bighead! rclxms.gif
Comeon... lets have a fight. i think urs can win.

For me, wheather my spider win or lose doesn't matter, as long got good fight. I can videocam and put for everybody to see. For everybody following this tread, who agree to the fight?? Say yes! hehe...batu api... biggrin.gif

When bighead was caught (by Dan Lam aka Mangrovejumper on 25/11/07)...it was quite pale it colour. It lost to lumpy even though lumpy was smaller. Bighead top, lumpy bottom.

See video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lPr1sP-NfM

After several days, dunno why lumpy became kecut, so bighead became firstking because quietman has never won bighead before.

2 days ago...see bighead vs bigguns... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xB1qJRxGG8g

Haha..today the male that havent change skin changed skin!
Look at pictures below, hard to think the first picture is same spider as the ones after it huh?
I give it some water to drink, it drink very long. I think if you have a male that havent changed skin, best to give it a lot of food and water before and after it change skin...i think it will kembang more, hence you get a bigger spider.
Dunno true or not, just theory.

I think i will name it blurman cuz it looked quite blur. Anyway it is not big, small in fact.. maybe after 2 weeks i will fight it. Now sure kecut.

After some consideration, i decided to release all the male and female spider to my front house garden, only keep the strongest Banglo spider.
Its easier to take care. Plan to keep it till it grow Big big.. icon_idea.gif

Your spiders also big and arms also wide. Can see clearly in the pic and videos. Very fierce oo.. drool.gif
Fight with ur spiders? Your are in Puchong and i'm in KL leh.

Your spiders drink water alot? All the spiders i caught seems duwant to drink water when i drip the water near them. I just spay some water into the spider case just in case. It still eat fresh green flies as normal. Those small green flies we normally see in flower and leaves, not those big normal flies.

Still can grow meh? After changing the last skin, i think spiders cannot grow any more leh... only abdomen can grow fatter la... i dont think the size of the head or arms can grow somemore.

Aiyah..got car one mah. Besides my wife's parents stay in Ampang. Is Ampang near Setiawangsa? Or can meet somewhere like Midvalley Pet wonderland. My bighead getting old oledi...soon wont be able to fight leow. Maybe this sunday i am free. Up to u ler... let me know.

Depends if hot day or one whole day din drink, sure to drink a lot of water. Without water, the spider will shrink.

Hey, car fanatic, i saw u on friendster oledi... added u as friend, spider friend smile.gif

Ya.. he come out with all sort of crazy idea in spider fighting stuff. I now recall ady.. he told me tat he kill his other smaller/weak male spider and lets his King spider which is starving to eat as FOOD! . The main reason is to train his King spider to kill off/eat other male fighting spider during fight!! shocking.gif Tat is why his spider always terkam and try to kill other spider during fight.. been train ady ma.

He also the kejam type, press the female spider backside till kemek abit so it wont run away and let his King spider rape it.  doh.gif

Wah ur fren quite teruk... esp press the female till kemek.... this i never do before. Last time as kid i also got fight males sometimes till they die cuz the winner is too fierce. But now i try not to do it anymore... not so good thing to do to something that bring me so much joy. U still in contact with this fren ah?

i also tried before to let my spider drink my blood but usually they avoid. maybe unless thirsty they will drink? Walao, talk about self sacrifice.

But i also think that is one of the ways expert train their spiders, letting it eat other males. These guys are gamblers, they fight to win money, so they will do anything to ensure their spiders are killers. One of them i know is in seremban. I havent met him yet but i got his contact in Dec last year and may contact him this cny. In seremban he is known as "pao fu wong" (fighting spider king). They say he play spider cari makan. Maybe tomolo i let u know how i come to get his contact. Quite interesting.

Tomorrow morning will be going for a short spider hunt cuz not working tomolo. See wheather can get new first king.

Today tak jadi catch spider, too busy settling some other stuff.

Wah, your area really alot of spiders la. I see u go here and there also can find males.

Jeletek...you stay around there ah...heh. My wife work in Ampang Great Eastern mall la. Hey, don't meet also can fight our spiders! You pass ur spider to my wife, my wife bring home to me, I fight and videocam, then i feed it big big and pass back to you. Haha! icon_idea.gif Can trust me, won't harm your spider or exchange ur spider. I thought of passing u my spider but if u dont have videocam, rugi if got good long fight. Actually if ur spider can win bighead, i willing to buy from u RM20 if u willing to sell. PS. Kevin, i added u as friend in friendster.

Today fought blurman and bro2. Blurman lost. Push only but quite long. But I was surprise Blurman dare to fight...looks also very fierce when showing angry face. 2nd day after change skin only leh. Blurman i realize is not small, at least average size... arms also long. I can see his body not keras yet, the legs like still lembek, that's why lost to a more matured spider. I am sure keep longer sure can easily win back bro2 and can even win topman(topman being the winner in the doubleflip and throw prevention clips). Topman is small but a good fighter.

Actually in ANY fight, there are 2 important considerations wheather man or animal considering same species.

1. Size/weight - size/weight differences should be eliminated
In the case of fighting spiders - it should be size of head because weight ratio of food to body size is big hence a meal of a spider can change its overall weight tremendously unlike man which weight ratio of food to body is small hence for man weight differences is elimated by having weight categories.

Notes:
(that is why fighting between different species of different size like the japanese clips is crazy and unfair although interesting to watch. If like that, then on land, the south africa male elephant sure win everything)

(Bighead may not be a good fighter allthough it is champion now. It won all fights simply because of size. I have yet to see him fight a really good fight, that's why i started this tread, to find a challenger for him)

(In fights involving gambling, comparing size is the most important thing to do. No one would fight a spider or anything if they can see their animal is smaller... high risk losing. So fights usually involve same size. Animals that is smaller but can win bigger opponent, they call it money [animal], because they are good fighters and can win their owners money. Because gambling got odds mah, example if mine is smaller i can bet 1 to 3 against a bigger opponent)

2. Age - Age inevitably affect the performance of any living thing. All animals will have a period of
peak performance in their live time. No fighter can win forever because no living creature lives forever. You don't expect a small baby or a oldman to win a fight rite? Hence the trick is to catch them at this period for the best outcome of a fight.

Having settle this 2 variables. The fight would be considered fair and square and other variables come
in to play which will determine the winner.

1. Tenacity/Willingness to fight and not give up easily (MENTAL)
This variable culls off a lot of lousy fighters
This variable can also be affected by letting the male see a female or let it win repeatedly to a smaller male

2. Fitness - a combination of strength(in the case of spiders/insect - toughness of exoskeleton also), alertness(accuracy/response/speed) and flexibility (PHYSICAL)
This variable can be affected by food, living environment and training (eg play with it, let it jump far, shake it and let it climb up its own web)

3. Fight techniques - everybody loves a good technician
Chop/"Sek pao" is one of them - the surprise element
Can be affected to a degree in a sense that chop can be spread(disease or learned?)

Choosing a good fighter to keep or breed.

A good fighter can ONLY be acertain if it has fought another good fighter. Therefore, any fight that last long would be by 2 good fighters wheather they win or lose. Hence both would be worth keeping. If 2 spiders fight long with each other the first time, subsequent fights between the same spiders would usually also be quite long considering they are kept healthy.(eg from my clips: quietman vs toobig, topman vs bro1)

A winner that fought a short push may or may not be a good fighter simply because the loser may just be kecut or very lousy. An example is Allblacks(gone already, lost it in my car). I thought it was good fighter becuz it won a lot of fights, but all only short push. When I finally fought it with stronger spiders it also fought short push and lost. When i finally analyze all its fights... i realize it never fought a good fight before...the most is one terkam only and only in one or two fights, so Allblacks was not a good fighter, then again maybe it is old already.

Good fighters
1. Last long in fights - graples, throws, bites, flips, attack side
2. Eventhough lose, it last 2 chops of more to a bigger spider
3. Eventhough lose, it dares to fight again in a short while.

The best fighters I documented would be quietman and scareycat. Quietman is actually slightly smaller than toobig but won both times they fight with exciting moves. Lumpy is bigger than quietman and although quietman lost but yet can put up long and good fight. Scareycat is smaller than quietman and although scareycat lost but fought until injured. Scareycat has another fight clip which proves he is one awesome fighter. It is unfortunate i am no longer keeping these two spiders. I only realize all of what i wrote above only after i release them.

recently my house got many of those black color one, just like the one posted, but i didn't catch them as i don't know how to rear them, later ended-up like old times kept them til died liao.
*
Actually easy to rear.
1. Keep in transparent box with holes
2. Make sure give water everday
3. Make sure feed it with at least one insect at day - ant/mosquito/fly - drop it infront of it or put in its container
4. Keep it out of hot area and away from ants
5. Clean out its container every few days

For more insight, can see the text file i post if you dont mind reading(quite panjang lebar ler...)

You catch and give me lar...if can win my first king, i buy from u.

yea careful, dude. 1 of my friend when 2 hospital after being bite by a deadly snake while catching fighting spider "paw-foo". dont go 2 those places very dangerous may b got anaconda 2.. haha.. laugh.gif
*
yea, actually i am also afraid kena bitten by snakes. That's why when i go to these places, my eyes is looking everywhere. But i also know most of these places no snakes. You know why? Cuz in town city area mah.
For snakes to survive and breed, it must have live food source so only places where there are rats or frogs a lot got snakes. Also these places i go to is usually isolated patch of land surrounded by human dwellings. Snake susah to survive where there is human. Accidently crawl out sure kena killed. So how can snakes exist there?

But i don't deny some places i go to sure got snake...
But talking to people who goes deep jungle trekking, they say best way to avoid snakes is to walk LOUDLY,... snakes tend to avoid ppl and move away.

Not insect la. Spider is an arachnid. Different group from insect. All insects got six legs. Spiders got eight so does mites and scorpians.

chop=terkam=grappling + biting

chop spider=spider without angry stance when figthing, just attack straight

yea, chop spiders rocks. No angry face, in fact sometimes seems like seeing a female with both arms raised(but not shaking)...then SUDDENLY terkam.

an interesting article to tell u want happens when a spider moult
http://science.howstuffworks.com/spider8.htm
"Typically, the spider does most of its growing immediately after losing the old exoskeleton, while the new exoskeleton is highly flexible."
This means before moulting a spider need to be well fed and drink plenty of water...so that when it moult, it can expand to the fullest.

This study shows spider females in general mate only once
http://www.bioone.org/perlserv/?request=ge...6%2FS02-72&ct=1

today fights:

blurman vs bro2
- blurman wins! only short push

bro1 vs blurman
- blurman terkam bro1 first! but bro1 was too steady...blurman kalah
- wah 3rd day after moulting, blurman dare to terkam others first! i think blurman will be quite good fighter in time
to come

topman vs bro1
- they both rolled out of the camera screen because too close up
- topman won

topman vs bro1
- incredibly bro1 dare to fight again immediately
- again topman won with one very powerful terkam

bro1 seems to have the tactic of clinging on to the other spider when kena terkam.
topman seems to be in the peak...

Viper: I still need to confirm wheather i free this sunday. If can also, it will be sunday evening...4-5pm. Cuz i am going back seremban on sat nite for a relative's birthday party. Tomorrow let u know. If inconvenient for u or pai se or scared my spider eat ur spider, let me know, no obligation, no pressure. smile.gif There will always be another spider, another time. icon_rolleyes.gif

yo, guys, yesterday busy so din surf.

Yeah. Big spider doesnt mean fierce. may need to keep a while to see. Let it keep fighting smaller males. Then after few days try again with banglo. maybe fight will be better then again maybe not. Fierce spiders not easy to find.

Your banglo spider is building up a lot of confidence. Good ah. rclxms.gif

I remember once my elder brother and I each caught our first king. That time i was maybe primary 2 or 3 studying in singapore and he is primary 6. Our dad was away on company business trip so we decided to keep our first kings until our dad come back so he also can watch the fight. We kept it like for about a week or so. That time seems long to me because as small kid so eager to see the fight and also half the day after school noting to do but play spider. So we both trained our first king. I keep letting it fight other spiders hoping maybe to find another first king and also training. But this king stayed as first king. My brother also the same. Everyday we feed it big big. Both our spiders nearly same size. Both spiders never fought before. For this long we keep it until dad came home. Then we fight, it was around noon i remember. Both placed on match box. Wah.... strong fight...chop chop push push chop again and again then they went onto my hand as i was holding the match box...still fighting on my forearm!! They fought halfway down my forearm. Geng man. But i could see mine constantly being chop and push backwards. Eventually mine lost. So sad that time. I remember on the same day... i went out to find some more spiders. I climb onto railings beside a moonson drain and catch spider from some very small leaf creepers (just enough to fit one spider) growing on some school fence next to the railings. And i caught 2 males...very sensitive..slightly open leaf already jump out. But unfortunately for the spiders...it jump onto dry flat cement land with only a bit of short grass..easily catch la. Then I fought it with my first king...first king lost! New king...very fierce. Later my old first king grew very old and black and I let it go... What happened to my new first king and my brother spider...i cannot remember... wheather they fought also cannot remember. Hehe...nice memories but sometimes not complete...

Date - 24/1/08 (Fri)
Time spent - 6.00pm - 7.30pm
Venue - Puchong
Reason there - Got home early because meeting with boss ended early
Venue type - Roadside..new housing area
Plant type - Shade - Tall wayside trees, shrubs- 3 leave creeper(those found in kelapa sawit plantation)
Insects - no mosquitoes!..got la..one or two, fruit flies, gnats

This is a nice place to catch spiders. It's safe because its beside the road. Across the road is a new fully occupied rumah pangsa with people going in and out. This road leads to a dead end, but not for long cuz development is going on. Beside the road are tall way sidetrees, and a deep drain but can easily step over. After that the land drops and you have the shrubs running parallel with the road. After that is actually a bare muddy shallow ditch and then you have vast area(5-10 arces maybe) of flat, cleared land ready for housing development. I went down behind the shrubs..so while I am actually inches away from public but I can't be seen becuz of the scrubs and I am stepping on land about 5 feet lower than the road. I was skeptical wheather there are any spiders here because while i heard these plants got spiders, I have hardly catch any from them in my life.

So I searched...found a young. Got la...Search somemore... a fat adult female. I din catch it. Found another female with eggs. Ok la...sure got male somewhere. Aha...found one..I saw its tail when i open a leave in the shrubs...I quickly let it close back. I took my plastic bag and carefully place it under the nest...then i carefully cut the leaves. After securing the nest in the bag. I look inside the nest. Ah? no spider. I look at the plastic bag. Also no spider. Wah so fast jump already. The location is such that it is no point waiting because the area it probably has jump into is deep in the shrub, full of branches and very dark and deep. Aiyah.. So i continue to search. Actually there was only a small patch of land than can easily stand there. Further along the shrubs and grass is the yellow mud ditch. While the ditch is only shallow rain water..the mud is quite thick and soft so it was difficult to walk along the shrubs. Only certain places can easily stand while others impossible without either flattening the shrubs or standing in the mud. But anyway I tried. Guess wat. In total I probably found about 4 adult females with eggs and 4 very fat adult females and several young spiders. Except for the male that got away..cannot find any other male!! Not even small one. Surely there must be more than one male to fertilize so many females. And I'm quite sure hardly anyone would come here because there was no tracks and the plants were not flatten before I came. The total length of the roadside shrubs I search was maybe 20-25 feet.

Then while I was squating down and searching somewhere along the little path to come down, I suddenly looked down and saw leeches!! Wah... 5-6 of them all crawling towards me. One or two climbing up my shoe and one on my tracks! Yikes, I stood up and took out my scissors and cut 2-3 of them in half. This part of the area got a lot of leeches because it was near a drain coming from the flats and have kangkong plants around. So I moved further away towards cleared standing ground. Phew. Nevertheless despite much searching till almost dark, 7.30-7-45pm, I couldnt find another male. I was so dissatisfied. I took home one fat female and accidently one female with eggs(cuz i didnt know it had eggs when i cut the nest). I think to myself, "I'm coming back."

Added on January 26, 2008, 3:17 amDate - 25/1/08 (Fri)
Time spent - 6.00pm - 7.30pm
Venue - same as above
Reason there - Half day
Venue type - same as above
Plant type - same as above
Insects - same as above

I'm back! Haha. Now now where are you mr. male? As I was walking down, I noticed there are MORE leeches because it rained a bit earlier. So they can crawl about much more. (leeches need to be in constant contact with moisture..otherwise they dry up and die) Within 2 minutes I was there, I was surrounded by leeches!! 5-6 climbing up my shoes, 2 on my socks, trying to bite through! another 2 climbing up my tracks. OMG...how to continue? I searched for my scissors...alamak didn't bring. Then got an idea. I took out my mosquitoe repellent branded "OFF". I smeared some onto a leech as it was biting my hand. Off it fell. Aha. It works. Yes, this brand of mosquitoe repellent contain the active ingredient DEET and leeches are afraid of it. I was once told by my fishing friend that he sprayed baigon onto his boots whenever he fishes deep in the jungle and no leech would climb up. Maybe baigon contain similar chemical. So i started smearing OFF around my shoes and my arms and on all those @#%$
leeches climbing on me. All fell off. Phew, problem settled. Continue hunting.

As I was searching around the shrub, I looked back and saw a bright young female walking around where i just stepped. Ah... maybe virgin female for bighead. As I was about to catch it, I saw nest 2 inch from the ground...and legs...of a male. Ah.. gotcha. Before I could catch it, I heard someone walking round the shrub toward me... Eh? who come here? it was a malay guy carrying a 1 year old kid, plucking some plants(not kangkong). When he saw me, he stopped and then turned to go into the kangkong area, still plucking. I said to him, "Boleh makan ke?" He said, "Boleh...ini pucuk paku(ferns shoot)" He continued," Good for health, this is organic food!" I said, "Wah, sini banyak pacat(leeches) la". He said," Ya, I SUKA pacat!Pacat gigit boleh keluarkan darah kotor!" WALAU. Good la. Hopefully all the pacat go to him since he moving around so much and in the area full of them. Both i pity the kid he was carrying becuz only got short sleeves shirt and shorts on. His bare footed legs were danggling and touching those kangkong as his dad bend down to pluck his salad. You know la, when there is movement, these leeches would climb up plants with their body standing and blood sucking mouth held high up to latch onto its victim once they pass by.

Anyway... this time I caught the male. Average size. But matured male. Probably the romeo which have been going round. Happy. After some searching I got bored because cannot find, so I started catching fruit flies and some other types of flies to bring home. Then I decided to walk the vast land to just look around. As I walk i realize the end of this land is actually...undeveloped forest land. While visible it is quite far, maybe half km or more. At the edge are some banana trees and shrubs...Ah...new place, new hope. Suddenly i looked, wah...got cows coming towards me to graze on the plants growing on this land. I looked at the 2 cows, they looked at me. I think maybe another day.. so I turned back towards the road. i then decided i want to explore further up the road. So I went back on the road and started walking towards the dead end. There were many shrubs and different type of plants... here and there i looked i saw some young. People opposite walking home from school were probably wondering what i was searching for..but i dont care la. Not doing crime. Eventually I saw a nest which the top leaf is big and rough type. The bottom a smaller leave..inside a big male... nice. I used my fingernails to very slowly break the stem of the leaves. Once on some bare ground, I squeezed it out and put in my container. Young male, bright colour. Big but not very big. Maybe can win bigguns. It was nearly 7.35pm. Almost night already... so i headed back to my car some 200meters away. Happy ending for the day...

3. Bigguns(right) vs Bigleaf - Bigleaf lost with just 1 chop

4. Bigleaf vs lowland - Bigleaf won with push

Aiyah..new spiders not so geng afterall. Fights not exciting so no point uploading video clips.

Lowland is bigger than topman, hence easy win.
Maybe bigleaf still young, so no challenge for bigguns. But can see bigleaf maybe very very slightly smaller than bigguns.

Bighead is way above. I fought bighead and bigguns a couple of times. Hardly even one chop bigguns fled. Even when i took bigguns while it was actively walking round its home and bighead was sleeping quietly. I havent seen bigguns fought a good fight before.

Current male ranking
1. Bighead

2. Bigguns
3. Bigleaf

4. Lowland

5. Topman
6. Bro1
7. Blurman

8. Bro2

The reason i separated the rankings as such is because of size matching. The exciting matches is actually from the bottom. Topman, Bro1 and Blurman fighting with each is much more exciting because they are fairly evenly matched in size. Blurman is a rising star. It has one trait u can count on. It will chop FIRST. Actually Blurman arms are longer than topman. Later I'll upload some cool clips from these trio.

Here is a comparison between bighead and topman. No need say who win this fight.

Walau is right.  I have no idea people in a modern country can still believe in the false medical practice of Blood Letting.  It was debunked since the 19th century, man.  All it causes is anemia.

Thanks for the post.  It is a very funny one.  One comment on your mosquito repellent.  It may not be the DEET that the lintah-lintah reacted to.  It could be the alcohol in liquid.

BigLeaf looks like a good sized challenger.

That means i can bring a bottle of methylated spirit also la to ward off the leeches. Can try brandy also. hmm.gif

Lets look at the fights of blurman. Although at this point of time he lost almost all its fight, but he is a good fighter.
The reason is because although he starts with pushing but so far he always manage to be the first to chop the other spider.

Blurman
Caught on 17/01/08 in Ampang as a "medium" sized male(havent changed skin)
20/1/08 - changed skin - see post #51, page3

21/01/08
bro2 vs blurman(lost) - longpush

22/01/08(2nd day after changed skin)
blurman(won) vs bro2 - shortpush

bro1 vs blurman(lost) - 1 chop by blurman first
bro1(top) vs blurman(bottom)

bro2 vs blurman(lost)
Blurman lost back to bro2 but blurman initiated 3 chops! It lost most probably because bro2 has an advantage called backup support advantage. Spiders that are pushed to a corner will fight a bit harder because it thinks it can't escape. Because blurman still young it fled after finding bro2 standing firm for so long.

25/01/08
bro1 vs blurman(lost) - blurman again chop first and push bro1 until they rolled off the leave!!... cant see already. But after that I think bro1 won because blurman a bit kecut. So i dont fight them.

Now i'm feeding a lot to blurman. See how he fair a few days from now. Do you think in 3 days blurman will eventually win bro1 and topman?

What a day that was!

Good to hear lowland and banglo are putting up a good show for you. nod.gif That's why I gave you lowland because I think they are much more evenly match. If I give you bigguns, you won't have nice fights. Just short pushes only.
As i mentioned before in one of my youtube videos, nice fights come from evenly matched sized spiders which are not too kecut. Having a huge spider by itself like bighead is not much fun(although happy and proud to have him, thanks Dan) because no other spider comes close to putting up a good fight with him.

Thanks, viper, for showing me around your area and places where you got your spideys. You stay in a beautiful place. Viper also brought me up to a high spot where I can view KLCC and many parts of KL. Cool thumbup.gif

Anyway, here are the fight pics. I didn't upload the clips cuz they were quite short fights and also I seem to have trouble trying to upload to youtube, very slow these past 2 days, even though I try getting up at 4 to upload or early morning at 8am.

1. Banglo(top) vs Bro1(bottom)

Comments: Banglo won with one chop. The chop was a fast one. Bro1 did not hold on when chop but straight away fled. Bro1 did not put up a fight with Banglo although I thot they quite similar size. From pics looks like bro1 bigger but that's because my video was angled with bro1 nearer.

2. Lowland(right) vs Banglo(left)
Attached Image Attached Image

Comments: At first Banglo push Lowland backwards a few steps but after that lowland won while still pushing. No chop. Maybe Banglo tired after previous fight. Sometimes we should not assume spiders wont get tired even if one chop or just push. I think any animal fighting will get tired. We fight second time almost immediately after first fight. Next time we better let a spider rest 5-10 min before fighting.

If you keep your spiders healthy they will fight well many times. Although important to feed your spider daily, I realize overfed spiders with very fat abdomen don't really fight that fiercely. We think that with a fat abdomen, the spider will be heavier and hence harder for the opponent to push it or lift it. However a fat abdomen also becomes a burden to the spider because the abdomen is behind the legs hence it will actually weigh the spider down and makes it harder for it to push forward too.

Interestingly pushing is not only a test of strength but also to see who is taller? The spider on the left which stood a bit taller won the push in this old pic i have

On Sunday before I met viper i also went to scout for spiders.

I was in kepong and went to a nearby forest. Still outside in civilized area before reaching the forest, I found the most crippled male I ever caught in my life from the wild..five legs only. Wonder how it lost so many legs. 2 from left, and one from right. May have been attacked by ants. When I drop him, he doesn't bother climbing up his own web, he just drop all the way.

First pic - caught him in this plants. Viper: Are these daun sirih leaves you were talking about?
Second pic - Wonder how he still manage to survive.

After walking about 15-20min I came to the forest edge. I saw quite suitable plants here and there and open a few nests. I saw a few tiny small young. Got la. So I search somemore. Now I am about 10 meters into the forest path when I opened a nest, I saw a funny looking spider I never seen before. It is quite small, all black, thin, but have long arms. Its tail move up and down slowly while walking. Quite difficult to catch. It is restless and wouldn't keep still once out in the open. I tried to catch it, but it kept jumping from one leave to another... until it came near another nest... I couldnt resist opening that nest... wooooh... I saw a THIANIA...BUT NOT BHAMOENSIS. Another species but same genus. This one was big but is old cuz of its movement. It is a female because there is a broken old egg nest in its nest. From the big you can see that this thiania full grown head size is much bigger than our normal fighting spiders. Apparently the small ones I saw earlier which i thot was thiania bhamoensis were not but another type. I tried to find for about another hour for a male specimen but in vain. I caught a few younger ones and took them home to rear them.

The small black spider which brought me to the new thiania species...itself maybe a thiania. Notice the sharp spikes on its arms. Our normal fighting spider also got...but barely visible.

After searching for so long and cannot find the male specimen, i thot maybe they live up the trees! I tried shaking violently a couple of small trees to see wheather any would drop down...nope, none.
Second pic shows a how secure their nest can be. Look at the number of webs they create to secure the two leaves. But this is a dried up leave of a empty nest i found already fallen on the ground.

I believe the male specimen looks like this(pic taken by a macro photographer)

Mangrovejumper: Wah, 2 legs? verge of death... I think most likely ants cuz last time i once threw a house spider at a group of ants(kerangga) i think... one ant graped its legs and immediately the house spider broke it off to escape death. So I think that 2 legged spider most lucky to be able to break off 6 legs to save its own life but sad to be left with 2...

Terrorist: Nope they din fight. The small black spider too small la... it ran away when Bro2 moved closer.
Those small spiders are mighty cute actually. Even without fighting, they make very cute pets. They are quite hand friendly too like our normal fighting spider. I've been feeding them fruit flies.

Viper: You seem to have witness a lot of appendage breaking fights... Actually these fights very rare. I think in my life i probably saw not more than 5 - 6 times these kinda fights. Of cuz this is not counting those unfair fights like repeatly putting a already weaken, smaller male to a bigger fierce one. Small boy that time do, but now I dont. Once i think, i saw middle legs gone too from a fair fight. Dunno how they turn and turn and one of the middle legs got bitten off and eaten.

Lockheart: Where you stay? Maybe you take a pic of your forest(one far, one close up on their leaves) and show us and we can tell you wheather likely to have fighting spiders or not.

Mangrovejumper: I have a way to compare sizes of spiders across generations even though they are dead. But must take their picture against a 1mm grid paper. I then do some tweaking with photoshop to resize, rotate and align the grids of different pictures and wala.. you can compare their size to see which is bigger. Also can roughly measure their head width like i did in the pic below. I drew a line(yellow) across their heads and rotate that line and place it against the grid. I think need to measure head length too cuz can see a noticable difference too. The pic below is all_blacks(top) and bighead(bottom). I think bighead head width is about 2.5mm and all_blacks head width about 2.45mm?

Too bad we don't have a pic of AJAX, your aclaimed all time HUGE spider. smile.gif The biggest fighting spider I saw was not mine but of a boy I met on the street when I was in primary school in singapore. He was catching spiders with his friends in a deserted plant nursery. When he opened to let me see...gosh..it was incredibly big and was so fierce it charged(very fast i remember) at its oponent on the matchbox and its oponent just fled without daring to fight. I asked him where he caught it and he said beside the drain. So till today I believe big spiders are found near water area because firstly there are more insects near wet areas and secondly plently of water enable spider to expand more when moulting. (Some people say that tai sui pao(big water spider) cannot fight...but that was certainly not the case). Interestingly dry areas usually you get small spiders.

Today I was sooooooooooo HAPPY!!! Guess why? Bighead mated with the biggest and fiercest female I got!! This female called Bigqueen was caught from Puchong and her head size is almost as big as bighead himself. Her size is not easy to find for a female. Bigqueen actually laid a batch of eggs on the 10/01/08(unknown male) but unfortunately she ate them on same day cuz I tried to inspect her eggs. So I was WRONG in postulating female spiders only mate once. Looks like in general they don't mate because they are pregnant or still carrying sperm from previous mating. After eating her eggs, I still kept Bigqueen because of her size and maybe i thot she would lay again.(because I was thinking spiders mate once and can keep laying eggs) But curiously i realize she was not getting any fatter after 20 days. So I thot just see wat happens i put her with bighead. Bigqueen put up a angry stance at first but after much persistant dancing around, bighead managed to mount her after a short while(1 minute maybe). No second round though. HAHA! i was elated! Man, her brood I will treat it like GOLD. Two of the biggest specimens I got...

Also today I saw a tiny baby in the container of the female i mated with THE Quietman. Walao... only one left... I fed the female and then inspect her nest a bit.. as i suspected...she had two nest! The first one on the bottom leave already empty...dunno when babies came out. There was another one on the top leave with eggs still inside. Anyway I took the last survivor baby of the first nest and kept it in another container. I placed a leave and some soil with springtails for it as food. Hopefully it will eat it. Tomorrow I'm thinking of removing the female and let the second batch of eggs develop without her.

Anyway to answer HuonHengChai about posting information about breeding, there you have it, cuz I'm still finding out. Searching the net I can't find anyone else trying to breed jumping spiders. Other spiders got la.

Some notes and challenges I faced when trying to breed fighting spiders
1. Gestation period(from mating to laying eggs) of a virgin female takes about 18 days(so far one account only)
2. A female can lay 2 broods of eggs in one leave nest(2 accounts-one wild and one from quietman's wife)
3. Female cannot hold back laying eggs when time is up even if no suitable nest as a female has been seen laying eggs on the side of a porcelain pot/vase hence it is opened(account by mangrovejumper)
4. Females would eat their own eggs if you tear their nest and expose their eggs even if you close it back immediately
5. Eggs laid and removed from females may not hatch. They can just turn brown and dry up.
6. Once I took home a batch of eggs with the female and separated the female. The nest I open to see the eggs. After that I just left in a container...guess what happened. Next day I noticed it turned brown! Few more days, it looked dried up and shrunken! What happened?? Did they female bite the eggs and kill them as I was transporting her home because of the movement and stress? Or... was it because of LIGHT? I remember once my brother kept a batch of eggs and managed to hatch all of them after what seems like a long long time(maybe 2 weeks or a month). I also remember he kept it in a matchbox...dark inside. So I am thinking that strong light may somehow kill the eggs that's why eggs removed from female but exposed wont hatch!
Soon we'll find out...

Anyway, I applied for Streamyx(1.0mbps) yesterday...so hopefully in a couple of days, i can easily upload more interesting fighting clips.....

Banglo is running  here and there eventho saw LowLand already waiting to fight. Banglo doesnt seem want to fight aggressively more like wanna run away.  tongue.gif  Once close, both spiders exchange arm blows and start pushing.
The arm attack from both spider lasted quite awhile, Banglo able to push Lowland few step back and just with 1 chop defeated LowLand.

Heres the video.
You can click on the following link to retrieve your File. The link will expire in 7 Days and will be available for 100 number of downloads.

The 2nd round fight was a short 1, just arm pushing and Lowland retreat already. Don't want to post the video coz its not exciting ma. laugh.gif
Saw ur video. Nice. Quality not bad. U shld have recorded those triple chop fights earlier u had. Wld have like to see them. Banglo seems a bit gila. But looks like Banglo is on a winning streak against Lowland. Wah you fight them everyday? Shld let them rest a day or two, feed them a lot then fight again. Maybe u shld let lowland see female or fight with house garden spider for confidence trainning.

If i stay near u, i sure wld bring a new good fighter to fight Banglo...Blurman.
