maybe the chop FS trying to eat other FS to replenish energy after moulting, like a tonic.
*
I don't think that is the case. Most of the time, by the time a male is chop, it would have been many many weeks after moulting.

Ass: Ya.. i also feel Chop FS have some eye sight problem especially at night.. i see Nexus, Trojan, Darkstar, quite blind at night and i feel they just depend on their spider danger sense to fight and defend. Hope, Xinan and Crossfire seems ok if there are good lightning at night.

At first i wanted to disagree with the eye sight theory. But then after thinking a while, hmm...maybe can be true huh?
Maybe chops have cataracts! But that would also means they are poorer hunters since jumping spiders depend mainly on their keen sense of sight to catch their food. But the eye sight theory also coincide with aging as most chops are matured males. I have yet to see a newly moulted(after a week) white legged chop. What is certain is that while poor eye sight maybe a cause to be chop but it is not 100% because a lot of my spiders which turned old and developed poor eyesight like Bighead, Kelapasawit, Bigguns etc never turned chop.

hehe, one more theory to chops

Btw Kelapasawit, Redleaf, Destroyer RIP

Here are some of the batches of eggs(without female) which failed to hatch

These dried up
Attached Image Attached Image
These are bighead's eggs taken out of its nest. 22 of them. All dried up after 2 weeks.
Attached Image
These had black fungus growing on top of the nest and also inside
Attached Image Attached Image

Here is an account of Viper's female's eggs
Only ONE manage to hatch! All a long i kept the female with the eggs until it ran away on its own.
Attached Image Attached Image
Viper, I think you caught it 24th March.
When you gave me already got eggs. How many days after you caught it did it laid eggs?
I first notice this lonesome fella on the 19th April.
For a few days it was inside the nest unable to get out. The female already left the nest.
I didn't want to assist it because i wanted to see wheather it could get out on its own
By 22th April it managed to get out... i saw a hole at the side of the nest and it was outside.
Today it is quite ok, i placed springtails in the container which i think it ate cuz its tummy became fat.
This one survivor could disprove that light and plastic hinders hatching of the eggs.

I feel the eggs need female FS to warm it up.. like chicken etcs..  tongue.gif
I saw female FS alwys in their nest with eggs few times bfr when i search for FS.
Here's the date i caught some of my FS just for keep track.

Sigma is incredible. Size, strength, stamina. Looks like Sigma has it all. Sigma should be in a competition. Great catch man. I hope Sigma will reign for a long time. Hopefully i can come see Sigma next week. Take some upclose pics of Sigma. And let Longman testing.

Dan, you should take a look at their site. They have completed their competition with Bonafido as the winner. Got some pics of the participants. I think they will post some videos up tomorrow. Great interest there.

My longarm like suddenly sick, dragging legs liddat sad.gif and very hungry, haven stop eating yet

Added on April 26, 2008, 8:51 pmbtw I saw a spider like Bavia shape but got red butt and red pedipalps(male organ thing at mouth) about 12 plus mm. Wtf was that? Is that the ghost spider?? Looked very fierce

Added on April 26, 2008, 9:33 pmlongarm the leg like weak, become jelly. Cannot hang upside down from leaf and sometimes the joint like cannot bend. But i tried to fight him with thick arm
1st time: he stand there open arm, thick arm push abit then run
2nd time: longarm suddenly chop at him
3rd time: chop again, but lose balance so longarm run.

Not fighting him until his next moult , hopefully by then cured liao
*
Longarm may be old already or sick. But I'm sure it wont have his next moult. Once a male FS has the white face, it has already moulted its last moult to become an adult capable of breeding. From its last moult, it would probably live another 3 - 4 months. So far having kept more than 30-40 FS last and this year, the longest time i kept a male is 3 and a half months-Bighead. I hope someone can show me he can keep a adult male FS longer than that. One of the symptoms of old age is the reduced ability to hang unto vertical surfaces or upside down. I dunno wheather Longarm symptoms is due to old age but if it is, then i don't think he can last at most another 2 weeks. Good thing is that it is still eating.

Mangrovejumper: I couldn't have explained about "chops" any better. Good job man!

GT4671: You can see we spider players here go into pretty deep details about the fighting behaviour of these spiders. The variety of their moves amazes us that's why we love them so much.

Viper: Damn, all your spiders turning chop. How to challenge you?

Wah, a white face male Thiania Bhamoensis moulted??!! If you had documented this with pics(before and after moult, and the moulted exoskeleton), I will be the first to be blown away! Do you still have the spider? Any pics?

What do you think, Mangrovejumper and Viper?

17/03/08 - Caught female Bavia
25/3/08 - Changed skin
9/4/08 - Mated
13/4/08 - Laid eggs(4 days after mating!)
23/04/08 - Can see shape of babies(10 days after laying eggs)
24/04/08 - Counted 14 babies
28/04/08 - Female wandered around looking for food but by night will return to nest
Today(29/04/08) - Babies still haven't come out of nest. Mum still protective over nest.
Attached Image
Notes: I think the female ate 2 days after the mating, but since then till yesterday it didnt come out from the nest to find food. But she certainly ate, ate her own eggs. From 100+ eggs, it's down to only 14 slings. So far, no sign that the female would eat the slings. Still 14 or 15(miss count).

Mangrovejumper: From the pic, you can see one or two unhatched eggs at the bottom. Really don't know why the female ate most of the eggs but like you said, maybe they cannot hatch. If left there, the bad eggs may affect the good ones.

Yeah, I've come across that site before. They are trying to input all types of jumping spiders from all over the world into their database. A huge and ambitious attempt. I'm sure there are many that man have not even seen before.

Now when you're bored and what to see back past FS fights, you don't have to browse through this site or my/viper's/or whoever's youtube account. I have categorized according to their features, the best and unique fights that are worth re-watching in the first post of the first page of this tread. As I post more clips or I see more clips worth noting, then I will update the list.

If you feel any of your clips are left out of the category or have some special feature you want to highlight/worth highlighting or I didn't categorize it right(Some clips have multiple features), just let me know so I will add in/edit it.

To all newcomers, enjoy!

Viper: I remember you had one teeth breaking clip. Which one?

Let Longarm rest longer few more days.
Yeah.. Xonan fierce but don't look really healthy.. walk oso slow type.. like sick abit.

Added on April 30, 2008, 11:40 pmMaybe can add these into the category list

Scorpio block chop attack and slam Xinan upside-down onto the floor.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvgTR10i7-A

Hades double chop attack
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0vef5xBY2s

Big FS fight - Hades vs Sigma
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12ZdSbcTF_M
*
ok. Added.
First one added as body slam
Hades double chop attack i added under far jump chop. It is a double cuz Thunderhawk retreated from first chop. Similar to the Small win Big - smallchop vs Topman. But Hades second chop is more obvious.

I try to categorize the fights under unique features that is also somewhat repeatable in another fight or two. But not so repeatable until it is a common thing. Eg arm biting is too common.
Last time i would have added a category called chop fight or chop vs chop but i think now between viper and me, it is getting too common!!

Nightstalker might be in the process converting to chop?

Last time my FS oso become no mood to fight for some time after fought with your FS Smallchop, Jack... later become very fierce suddenly.
I got try spar abit but my FS duwan fight.. but later starts to chop and bite.. really weird.

Xonan oso kecut/ no mood to fight and i decidedly better to let him go. Yesterday found back.. already become chop.

I got trained my FS to spar few times but i feel they fight differently from other FS tat fought/spar with CHOPS bfr.

FS tat fought with CHOP tends to become fierce fighter after few days/weeks.
Maybe its the experience learn or already got infected by chop disease.

Heh, i remember last time i mentioned that one of ur FS(forgot which one) suddenly become fierce probably because it last fought with smallchop. But u said that wasn't the reason, but because of the fly u fed it!

The infectious trait of chop was first noted and told to me by Mangrovejumper many many many years ago(Dan, when was it? 20 years ago?!! ) Till now, throughout this tread, we have seen it happening time and again. So if you want to have a great team, one way is to keep all the FS male you caught but make sure u have at least one chop(not too small to get himself killed) and fight them as u keep them. Sooner or later, majority chops. One current example i have is Ioimm. The FS in the place i caught before quite small and quite kecut and i expected ioimm to be so too. 2 things different about ioimm that i think i, as man, influenced. I caught ioimm before it moulted. I made sure it ate a lot, and when it moulted i made sure it has water available and fed it the soonest time possible(like i did with Blurman). Though not big, it turned out to be bigger than any other male i have seen/caught in the area. Secondly, now it turned chop. So playing FS does not need to be just catch, fight and let go. Depending on how you keep them, that female looking male or that white legged kecut male, could eventually give you many good fights and even be first king.

Today i also went to catch but got only one hour before dark. So sad, no time to go far. So i went back to leach land which is no longer leach land but soon to be concrete land. Anyway all that is left now is a small patch of bushes but i saw one male there so i caught it. Named it Bandit.
Attached Image
Not only the place treaten by man but a new comer(s) has come to conquer the place. Your favourite, Mangrovejumper. Favourite to roast that is.
Attached Image
Saw this transparent spider male i think. Tried to catch it to fight with my FS but it was too fast for me..escaped.

Here's Ioimm vs Bandit.

Added on May 2, 2008, 10:38 pmWah, this is so "cham" man. I'm catching one average FS and viper is catching 5 FS and got king kong too. I think my FS cannot even get into your top 5 rankings.

Added on May 2, 2008, 11:00 pmXinan vs NFS2. Which is which? Ur clip also cut of from beginning izit? Start clip already grappling. Who won?
Incredible fight. Fierce almost all the way. I added under 42second fight.
The jump chop by Scorpio also i added under Far Jump Chop.

Wah, your Chaos push only can win Sigma. That means Chaos size is very big. Usually normal FS(non-chops) is very sensitive to size, more than we can see. If 2 normal FS just push and one run, usually means there is a significant size difference leh.

Wah, viper, you're producing some excellent FS fight clips. I added 6 of ur new ones to the list under
carry, 14s, 12s, big FS fight and arm breaking.
Why a lot of ur clips when start, FS already grappling? Ur FS must be damn fast man, u not ready they already attack!

The info in ur clip Hades vs Sigma Rd1 (4May2008) confusing man. Sigma vs sigma??

Sigma win Hades. Hades win Chaos. Chaos win Sigma. Triangle ranking again. But now u say 3rd and 4th round Hades win Sigma. So Hades, Chaos, Sigma. Your longest kept FS with the most training ranks number one now i suppose.

Pity Scorpio. A lost for Crossfire. How long u kept it?

Ass, thanks for the clips. The FS names u give same like some of my past FS, hehe. If ur FS size quite different then usually fights wont last long, unless got chop. Yeah, really funny to see Longarm still pushing after opponent ran away. Haha!
And yes, ur container shld have some holes. Easier to give water too esp if u got a small plastic pippette. Just squirt through the hole.
Btw where u stay?

Bandit died today!? Catch one day, let it fight. Die already. Dunno why. Not very fierce fight also. Don't look like got any injury. I wonder is it because no water? But i remember i gave some to it last night.

Klaze where are u from? Usually FS are found in areas with plants which have broad, non hairy leaves. Usually under shade. Open land with shrubs/lalang but without a single tree or building on it or near by, I don't think can find any FS. The best places to catch FS is not in jungle area, which is commonly believed, but in areas/plants near people houses, roads which is also BESIDE a bit of wilderness. In other words, I think they thrive well in wilderness banks/edge rather in INSIDE the forest itself. This is because inside the forest, predators are too many. But yet if the place is near/beside some wilderness(even small pieces of deserted land in the middle of town with a lot of shrubs and trees is considered wilderness), there is plenty of insects colony which act as food supply to the FS. Plants planted by man near these places are safer for FS because less predators like other large spiders, lizards, wasps, ants etc. Thereby the wilderness banks are the best places to find them and usually they are the largest sized too. I think Viper have shown it to be quite true too.
What about places with a lot of man planted shrubs but no wilderness? Well, these places, EVEN if got, usually their size is not big and not so fierce. Nowadays, new housing areas are very carefully planned hence you wont find unused patches of land here and there unlike old housing areas. So these places very difficult to find any FS even though people do plant a lot of ornamental plants because of the lack of a steady insect supply. Example is like SS2 or Subang, M'sia.

Viper, Thunderhawk now take first place?! Seems very fierce after eating Scorpio's arm. So this may be a prove that eating another FS makes the eater fiercer! Sigma aint that fierce afterall, losing to Thunderhawk. Did Thunderhawk fight Hope before?
Now you're in Langkawi, who is feeding ur spiders?

Viper, what leave u caught ur big female from? U caught ur female on 24th March. Now 06/05/08, after 1 and a half months, the leave still green and relatively smooth. Very good leave to use to keep FS. It looks like the big fern leave u showed me. Can u confirm it?
