well, tried to check with few clinics and so far the cheapest i can find is around Rm150 for full body checkup.
most expensive would be rm200 for the results going to be sent to Australia lab to test it.

well, am planning to look for University hospital since i can get the anti-hepatitis B injection for free but have no idea which department to go. went there once and nearly get lost and so hard to find parking.

so guys, do share wit me if u know any cheaper place to go for full blood test yea.

thx. rclxms.gif

Full blood test? Why would u want one. This kind of tests are normally not routinely done in healthy adults. Not much medical value, and as u can see are quite ex.

Full blood test (including HIV) costed around RM180 at clinic (which the blood sample would be sent to Pathlab). If you go directly to Pathlab for the similar package, if will cost around RM300 plus. The package I said doesn't include Hepatitis C test, which is quite expensive (around RM70). I think if you go for blood donation at private hospital, probably the hospital will give you discount or free blood test. If you donate blood at garment, you will give some info about your blood FREE.

It depends on what kinda test you wanna do because there are different packages for the full blood tests done. Like what onemilimeter had said, some comes with HIV, some without Hep.C, etc.
Blood testing range is wide. you can get your blood tested for the blood cells, or for the chemical components, for your immune system, etc All comes in different price list.

well which hospital will accept blood donation then? last i chk with damansara specialist, they dont. the RM200 that i mentioned, it includes HIV, chrolestral level, high/low blood pressure, kidney, hepatitis and few basic test. so does it mean it's good deal? i stil find a bit expansive.

main reason to check out the blood is to have a anti hepatitis B injection. do you guys know we need to take an anti-hepatitis b injection when we are adults? the one that we took in our school times, might be gone in our blood alridi.

private hospitals do not give discount over blood donated by you.
national blood bank, only if you have donated few times then there are free tests.
so you want to get your blood tested for hepatitis B? whether you are free from it or a carrier?
then just request for hepatitis B testing. it wont cost that much if its only involving 1 test.
and for hep.B injection, its not a must to take it when you are adults. just that, on the safer side, better to be safe and sorry, you go get it., especially if you have "healthy" life style or you are working in the healthcare industry, particularly in the hospitals.

ive got myself jab for 3 times. but no antibodies is produced. how sad... cry.gif

hi, my advice is that, if u want to screen for Hep B, C, HIV, or any blood transmitted disease, just go ahead for a blood donation. if you're clean, and you wont be notified. save your money.
and if you're going to do a liver function test, renal function test or full blood count...unless you really at risk of having such disease, there's really no point of doing it because the markers often shows normal values. and even if there's abnormal value, you'll still need a doctor to interpret the result for you so you wont misinterpret it yourself.

many people was like "wow" when they see their own reports, fascinated by the values and tests done on their blood. but the facts is that these test are only required to investigate a patient with some signs and symptoms of certain disease just to confirm a diagnosis instead of using these blood tests as a screening tools to screen for disease.

My opinion is we should do AT LEAST once FULL blood test. Those who're overweight or obese (especially women) should do Lipid Profile Test (LPT) and Liver Function Test (LFT). Sometimes we might think that our current lifestlye is OK. If LPT and LFT are abnormal, then we need to adjust our lifestyle before TOO LATE.

lipid profile is suggested for those high risk person( hypertension, obesity, strong family history of stroke and dyslipidaemia, diabetes melitus)
however, liver function test is harder to define...the rise of one value sometimes doesn't implicate anything...only when the whole readings is significant rise, then you can suspect something wrong with your liver...

there's a few case where some people see abnormal values in their test, thus rushing to clinic for help...and ended up going through more complex diagnostic test which requires a lot of expenses...
and the final diagnosis is normal...

that's one of the strategy how our private laboratories earns consumers' money...by giving them packages of blood test without telling them the cause of the abnormalities, and also the solution to the problems...

note: don't ever waste your money on cancer screening because it's not diagnostic and specific for normal human body.
Tumour marker is most useful in monitoring treatment effectiveness and also use to screen for relapse for post operative and chemo patients.

Ive come across many cases in which the patients is like a bag of bones but when lipid profile testing was done, the cholesterol level is even higher than those obese patients. So its not only meant for obese people or those with family history. but everyone should get check at least once as our blood can give out alot of clues regarding our health status.

As for klifex, in my opinion, if you do have family background of cancers, when you have reach a certain age and if there are risk factors that may contribute to the mutation of the cells within our body, tumour marker may help a little. As when something goes wrong with any organs in our body, the amount of cancer marker would certainly be higher if it were to compare with a normal healthy people. it is not nessecary only for prognosis purposes. but like what you have mentioned, those lab testing packages offers by private labs or even in the hospital, some of the tests are unnessecary. It would be better if you do have some knowledge regarding the importance of each test done and how it is connected to your health status. e.g. if you have never been exposed to any sexual transmitted disease, whats the point of doing STDs testing?

Just to clarify some of the issues

Hep B vaccination is not effective in approximately 5% of people. Hence one should do a test to see if they were able to mount immunity after their last inj. Usually a further one injection is given. If no immunity is present after that you don't need to waste money. Hep B is transmitted via blood and blood products, sexs and sharing of needles. If you fall in the 5% category who wont develop the immunity even after the vaccination (and even if you don't) practising a healthy and safe lifestyle should be adequate to protect you.

It is however safer to get yourself vaccinated as you never know when accidents can happen.

As for tumour markes, you are right that the pick up rate is extremely low. It is not really necessary unless you don't mind the additional cost. When it is negative, it may be false negative. Sometimes you can also get false positive. It may be done for follow up patients and even than as a compliment to other more accurate tests.

It would be good to do an annual health screening and the most important things you should do is your blood counts, Liver function test, renal function, lipid profile, Blood sugar, thyroid function, Urine examination. You can do your hep b antigen& antibody yearly as the antibody levels tend to drop after 5 yrs. excluding the tumour markers this should cost less than RM100.00

When you donate blood, your blood will be tested for all infective diseases. You will be notified and treated if there are any positive findings. Otherwise no one will contact you.

Most blood tests in laboratories are done in Malaysia. There are very few tests that needs to be done in Australia. These are special diagnostic tests and they are not necessary to be done routinely. Please don't be conned by anyone who claims that your blood is sent overseas for routine tests.

Hyperlipidaemia ( high cholesterol, triglyceride etc) are not necessarily found in obese people. In fact you can find complete vegetarians having it. Most cholesterol in your body is produced by your liver. It is recommended that anyone aged above 25 is tested yearly. In familial hyperlipidaemia, who are at higher risk you can find hyperlipidaemia as early as 20years of age.

Usually the 'clinic' doctor will not ask you to go for advanced tests if your first LFT shows abnormal values. The doctor will ask you to change your lifestyle and go for another LFT in 3~6 months. If the abnormal values persist, then you will be advised to for further diagnosis, e.g. ultrasound scan. Usually liver biopsy is the last option as it's expensive.

jst something to share with you all.

i went to pusat darah negara today to donate blood. basically they will test for hepatitis, HIV, malaria and one more STD sickness called silitris or something like that. so if you are tested positive, they will sent you a letter to your registered address in 2 months time. well, in a way free blood testing for major disease la. you get to do some good deeds by donating the blood and at the same time you can be assured that you are not infected with any of these sickness.

2nd thing, they have a free hepatitis B jab for mon and fri only. well, there isnt any hep A jab, but well it's free. so cant complain much. onli condition is you must donate more than 2 times in order to enjoy this benefits.

actually wanna ask you guys, how do you know if your blood develop the immunity after the jab? i was told the hep B jab will take place for 6 months? during these periods there will be testing on ur blood to see if there is any immunity developed?

Hepatitis B immunization is actually involving injection of weak hepatitis B virus into your body. This will activate your immune system to produce antibodies against it. Once the 3 series of jab is complete, you can go and get your blood tested for the antibody.

For the really cheap ones you don't get to ask the doc any questions, coz there's 100 people behind you just waiting their turn.

Immunization for Hep B is quite a simple procedure, of course after 3 course of injection you'll have to run a blood test to see if you're immune. which are usually a few weeks after the immunization.

However, for those who borned in recent years, Hepatitis B immunization are immediately give after birth and subsequent follow by booster at age 2,3,5 months.

Hepatitis A infection are often self-limiting...means if your body are immunocompetent, it'll recover by time. And you may/may not develop immunity afterwards. Hep A immunization are recommended for travellers.

anyone tried BP healthcare? the other day i called them up and it's RM99 for full body checkup. they claim that it's the same offered by Pantai Premier Pathology lab (RM90).

but BP claimed that they have a doctor to explain your lab result to you whereby Pantai doesnt have any doctor.

true ah?

You should consider also a Skin Carotenoid Score scan to check your body's level of antioxidant to put together with that test. The SCS test is non evasive and only costs rm 20

take the result to your doctor and let the doctor analyse it. pathlab / BP lab etc doesnt include consultation. they are just technician that take your blood, test them and produce a result.

doing a test is cheap. but consultation fee for analysing is the expensive part.

the thing is there are plenty kinds on blood test. blood test done in pathlab is usually is not as conclusive as the one in hospital. there are general indications, whereas if you are referred to do a blood test in hospital, they might be some specific test against what the doctor want to see.

issit? u went to BP lab before? the nurse there say upon getting the result, there is doctor to consult one woh...

they said only. most bplab dont. even they do, they only know 'oh ok, everything is fine' or 'oh you got this X substance on the low-side' and that is it. but your doctor is the only that hold all your medication and health history and now what he want to look for specifically for you.

those private labs always have this promotion thingy going on and its kinda cheap actually e.g. around rm100. the tests included in the packages offers are reasonable enough to check the status of your health. it would be better if you know what tests to go for, its even better because some of the tests included doesnt really serve any purpose

after reading this thread, seem like there's no affirmation of whether doing blood test in this small lab is good or just a kind of suburban paranoia myth. so which health care should we rely on their professionalism.

Just walk into one and do one simple one, if turns into no prob, most probably you are fine too. If there's symptom of abnormalities found, you will always required to do further confirmation test. There's no test without error percentile.

Full blood test may include:

1. Full blood count (e.g. white blood cells, red blood cells, platelets)
2. Biochemistry measurement (e.g. cholesterol, protein, glucose)
3. Urine checkup (e.g. physical and chemistry components)
4. Blood type (ABO Grouping) ( always come in a package)
5. Thyroid function (e.g. T4, T3)
6. Hepatitis B related
7. Tumour marker (e.g. PSA, CA-125, AFP

Usually if you go to the lab and you want cheaper rate, tests are clustered into packages. As far as I know, the test cannot be replaced with others. STDs and HIV tests are more expensive compared to e.g. blood type testing.
