my guitarist has this zoom g2.1u multi effect pedal
at first i tried his guitar..
then i plugged my guitar to the effect pedal.. and i cant recognise my guitar at all ... sounds realy different
i tried most of the patches...it kills off the actual sound/tone of the guitar..
i heard those are factory settings, and u can actualy tweak it..
so are there any recommended settings for the patches? cos i wana help my guitarist to get the most out of his effects processor..
afaik he only uses the distortion.. haha

try playing around with the equalizer, adding on effects like reverb, delay and chorus should help u add more taste to your tone
or try boosting the mids for a rounder tone or cutting the mids for some scooped sound for some nice chugging rhythms..

yup, i'm using the G9, but the concept is almost the same
i get the tone that i want with my unit, you can try to experiment with different settings, minor adjustment to the bass, mids, treble, presence and gain do affect the tone.
i will always put a compressor and a noise gate in my patch, then just add some reverb, some delay, set pedal to wah and i'm good to go
for clean patch, i'll use acoustic sim. + ensemble + delay to get a nice clean tone ( i think the G2 also have the acoustic sim. i might be wrong though)
or you can scroll through the amp models and try which one you like, then just fine tune with the EQ to get your desired tone

has he read the manual? -__- the manual explains more or less how to set your own patches. The factory patches A & B are meant for computer recording and C & D are meant for live playing. Bot those patches are made to replicate the tone form a particular song, so it doesn't work too good.
Funny thing is i found the Extreme distortion patch waaaay more reliable than the metalzone patch in that little sucker.
And another important thing is to screw with your EQ. keep the EQ dials on your amp all at the same level and let the pedal balance it out for you.

he doesn't read the manual... and he doesnt rely care much about tones n stuff.. every distortion he use is pure distortion and heavy gain sound.. sometimes i cant tahan.. so wana help him set some other patches for other songs wich don realy need so much gain ok anyways i found a site which has some custom patches for the zoom 2.1u thought might as well share it with whoever is using the pedal http://zoom.haax.se/This post has been edited by hanhanhan: Jan 9 2008, 12:56 AM

oya by the way, its ok to set high gain for room practises but high gain in live shows...
be prepare to loose all ur note definition and tone and end up a blurry solo its too damn muddy.... things get worse...if the pickups aren't gud enuf...

In live situation, you might find it better sounding to lower the gain and increase the master volume instead.
Too much gain + high volume will only cause fuzzyness and very ear-piercing distortion
