Its been a while since I had hamsters so recently i decided to start again. I bought some hamster mix - includes some dried fruit and then mixed it with some kuaci (coz the mix doesnt hv kuaci).

All my previous hamsters (few years back) use to take all the kuaci and never eat the mix but the current hamster (its a syrian, but quite young i think because it's small) only eats the mix.

I want to ask what is the best and most affordable (im a student) bedding for the hamster. The  hay that is mentioned, is that the same one they are selling for rabbits? Hamsters eat it is it?

Plus one more thing, my hamster seems a bit scared. I just got it day before yesterday and while taking it out of the box (the pet store gave me a box and after that i terus came back home) it jumped out and fell off from waist height Now most of the time it keeps hiding out in the house inside the cage.

One more thing, is it better to change my cage its metal and start to rust and I dont want the hamster biting it. Thinking of getting a habitrail one.

I agree with you. It's not even RM20.... hamsters eat like 1 to 2 teaspoons a day.... I don't think that is expensive. Keeping 1 or 2 hamsters is so economical... not like me LOL.... I got over 30 hamsters.... That's 16 Syrians, 12 RC, 4 WW and 2 robos....

do you know why my female hamsters got strong smell urine? is this normal? I have tried getting a litter box but both of them didn't like it la hehe

I wana ask about sand bathing the hamsters. I think I read in one of the previous posts that syrian hamsters don't need to be given sand bath. So I guess that means I don't have to buy lah? So what kind of hamsters have sand baths?

My two sibling WW who've been living together since young started fighting all of a sudden One of them got injured (very slight bleeding) yesterday and bled and I had to separate them. I put the aggressor sibling into a plastic cookie jar with holes punched out in the cover and the other sibling in the cage.

My poor hammy was so panicky and frantic all night in the cookie jar before it settled down and slept Now it merajuk, burrowing under as much shavings as it can in the cookie jar and curling up to sleep...

I hope I can reintroduce them someday. Have to look for a temporary cage for one of them today... sigh.

Update: I managed to find an ice cream box and "upgraded" it to the ice cream box. But its fur still looks so dull and its so quiet... couldn't go out earlier to get a spare cage cos the property agent came over. Gotta go and find one later... I tried to reintroduce the two siblings together, but Scratchy (the one that got bitten yesterday), upon seeing its sister Itchy, started squeaking like mad and running away. Looks like I might not be able to reintroduce them...
