UEM World, to be delisted, will sell stock in four listed units - UEM Builders, Opus Group, Pharmaniaga and Cement Industries of Malaysia -to shareholders
UEM World Bhd, the Malaysian company with assets from cement making to pharmaceuticals, plans to list its property unit under a plan to simplify the group's structure and attract investors. State-run UEM World will sell stock in four listed units to shareholders, according to a statement today. UEM World will be delisted and UEM Land Sdn, the company's property division, will trade on the Malaysian stock exchange. The proposal removes a layer of control from the group and may attract investors to a real estate industry being promoted by Malaysia's government. UEM Land is building the 24,000-acre Nusajaya city in Johor, a state-run development that needs RM382 billion (US$117 billion) of investment over two decades. "The move will make UEM become more focused," said Gan Kim Khoon, head of equities at OSK Investment Bank in Kuala Lumpur. "It's the right way to go. Investors don't really like a company that is too diversified in business." The transaction will probably be completed by September, the company said. UEM World will sell shares in UEM Builders Bhd, Opus Group Bhd, Pharmaniaga Bhd and Cement Industries of Malaysia Bhd under the proposal. "The move will help streamline the group's operation," UEM World managing director Ahmad Pardas Senin told reporters today in Kuala Lumpur. UEM World shareholders will receive 125 UEM Land shares for every 100 UEM World shares owned, the company. UEM World shareholders will also receive RM125.82 in cash for every 100 shares they own, the company said. - Bloomber Added on February 15, 2008, 7:23 pmgood news for uem world share holder?
