i have search some websites regarding minimum Ielts requirement and it stated that the minimum in most Aussies Universities is band 6 with no element lower than band 6,

for most undergraduate courses, unis require overall score of 6.0/6.5 and for writing not less than 6.0.

You may apply the unis first and see what offer they provide.

Put ur application in first. If ur rejected based on 'bad' IELTS score, then u can retake it, otherwise no point in having to retake it.

If you can enter ur desired uni then don't have to retake. Waste of time and money. Unless if you can't enter your desired uni then go retake.

Last time when I went to British Council's Education@UK fair, that bold part was highlighted. you need to retake your IELTS as far as I'm concerned.

It's better if you retake.Aus uni insist that you need 6 for writing.

i'm gonna agree with this.

if they insist on no elements below band 6, u're screwed. so u need to buck up on ur writing and speaking (both below 6).

ielts does not factor in at all in the jpa scholarship selection process.......the requirements are from the destination uni......and good 1st world unis require at least a 6, and 7 in courses like medicine and laws..........

Just throwing in a personal anecdote...

A [pretty good] university I applied to, insisted on a band 7 for every element. I missed one element and got 6.5 instead, though my overall score was 7.5. They didn't seem to care or mention it when they gave me my offer...

But yeah, it would be much safer if you retook it. Myself, I was going for the "wait and see" approach; if they asked me to retake it, I'd have done it, as the IELTS requirement would only have formed part of my conditional offer and would have no effect on whether I received an offer or not.

EDIT: I applied for Law, by the way.
