Far Cry 2 will not use CryTek's CryENGINE (from the original game) or CryENGINE2 (which is used in Crysis). Instead, Ubisoft has developed a new engine called Dunia, meaning "world" or "earth" in Arabic, Greek, Persian, Hindi, Urdu, Swahili and Malay languages. The engine will take advantage of multi-core processors and support DirectX 9 as well as DirectX 10. Only 2 or 3 percent of the original CryENGINE code is being re-used, according to Michiel Verheijdt, Senior Product Manager for Ubisoft Netherlands.

Ubisoft has unsurprisingly decided that Far Cry 2 will not be PC exclusive, but be available on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well.

The game is being put together by its Montreal studio and will run on a fancy new engine built especially for it.

Action this time takes place in Africa, and all three versions are lurking in fiscal 2008 - any time after April this year.

We had previously expected the first-person shooter sequel in the early stretch of 2008, but apparently the success of Assassin's Creed has taken some pressure of the publisher, a little like a chubby person no longer sitting on you.

The original Far Cry was developed by Crysis mastermind Crytek, but the two companies parted ways leaving Ubisoft to acquire full rights to the series in 2006.

The big news first is the PC game Crysis is coming to the 360. However, that PC game won't be the same game as what we will see on the home console. Because Crysis will be running at DirectX10, the game would look inferior since the 360 can only do DirectX9 (as mentioned before). So, the developers are using the same universe that the PC game is set in, with some similar story elements, but the gameplay will be entirely different. The developers told the 1UP guys that they weren't even going to try and replicate Crysis. This would be because the PC version will be running so much more stuff that the 360 couldn't handle, and would be disappointing. They stated that the game needs to run deeper, with the physics and world needing to be constructed differently.

So there you go... Crysis Xbox 360 does not equal Crysis PC. It's simply a new game set in the Crysis universe.

I think Far Cry was never exclusive for any consoles, PC, u-name-it.
The 1st Far Cry was there for the Xbox360, so i am pretty not surprise that this game will be coming to the 360 and definitely not a PC-Exclusive

R U sure ? Far Cry Xbox 360's quality is nowhere close to the PC version. Far Cry 2 Xbox 360 seem to know how to push the console properly since Far Cry 1 Xbox 360 was merely "an update of the Xbox version".

Hmmm....i wonder is there any Malaysian working in this project. The engine name is actually call DUNIA and i don't think it's coincidence, like the Halo 3 acheivement "Askar".

I am looking forward to this, love the first one on pc (xbox version too). Luckily they listen to their fan and take out the monster in the game.

Wow... that's a first. Far Cry 2 will be 'better' than Crysis and WAY BETTER than Far Cry. In fact, I hated the alien shooting part of Far Cry. Far Cry 2 is set in a 'real-world locale' Africa... it is going to be incredible.

And I'm not a big fan of Crytek + Crysis, if you know what I mean.

Yea , alot of gamers complaint about the alien part in Far Cry , I myself thought it was quite ridiculous also .

However , I don't know , I really liked beaches and beautiful waters instead of safari-like lush world , maybe that's just preference .

Although I said that it's wouldn't be that special , but I believe it could easily land on the good shooter region .

fuyohhh damn tempting. I hope it's very realistic that i dont have to shoot the enemy with 10 bullets before he die.

Xbox 360 gamers don't have to worry one bit. The game developers have assured console gamers the performance/graphics are comparably the same to the PC. And that's why I love them and not Crytek.

While watching ed1001, playing far cry 2. It looks great for me.

infact much better then far cry 1 I can say

I can't wait to get to Africa.

Played both PC and Xbox 360 version.
Graphic wise: PC is better looking with smoother frame rate [if ur PC met the recommended requirement]. Xbox 360 version suffers 'chugging' frame rate in some areas, lower drawing distance, more blur in some areas, longer loading times in dense area, and pop-in textures. Xbox 360 version is comparable to 'medium to high' setting in PC version.
Gameplay: PC is easier because using keyboard+mouse and u can save anywhere in the game.

Conclusion: Both versions play great in both platform. Great looking game! Long gameplay hours. MEMANG BERBALOI!

sorry out of topic,i had to oc my rig's cpu n 4870 kaw2 to get avg 40fps on crysis warhead with res 1400x900 with enthusiast settings. Now my black edition athlon x2 is putting some good use as the multiplier is unlocked.

i found one very annoying thing in this game is every time u pass by those guard post, they will attack u....when u finish them off, next time when u pass by they will respawn again...its freaking annoying....

The 360 and pc version are different games.Usually 360 and pc has the same designs and all but this time it's different.360 version also looks very "yellowish" while the pc version looks more "cool blueish lighting".Anyway,both of them are great.

Btw,it's not the just the lighting differs but the level designs,some characters are also different from the 360 version.Been playing the pc version because it's easier to aim and shoot.The pc version runs very smooth even at highest settings and at high res.Good optimisations here.

just bought the pc version i expected graphics like crysis but it seems less detailed.

The PS3 version lacks 1080p support ! It seems Xbox 360 upscales the game to 1080p a heckuva lot better than the PS3 version ! Also, there are issues with the PS3 version especially the insane 3.5Gb installation size!!!

Hey need to ask something, how do i unlock everyone single gun in the online shop? I've already completed all the available weapon dealer missions, but i am still unable to unlock all the guns.

You can only unlock all weapons later on. I already unlock all the weapons but only use the same 3 weapon most of the time, grenade launcher, sniper rifle and pkm

Hurmm....just finished the game. Took me 24 hours 32 mins and 31 seconds to finish the game. Only manage 96% complete though and found around 110 diamond briefcase iirc

Anyways imo this game doesnt deserve the oh-so-glowing reviews that it recieved . Here's some conclusion of the single player portion (that I can think of right now) based on the PC version that I played

Pros
- sandbox type of game
- great game engine with not so taxing to the hardware
- great sound (especially sniper rifles)
- really capture the African atmosphere (especially the grassy plains)

Cons
- meh storyline
- terrible AI
- terrible hit detection and weapon damage
- repetitive mission (arms dealer mission ring a bell?)
- the machete is useless since enemy will be alerted if you kill one with it
- buggy

All in all, I'll rate this game 7 out of 10

Foooh.... the environment.... the huge map.... the many options on how to do your missions.... foooh....

But the FOV is a bit narrow, the weapons hit detection and enemy AI is not the best. And I cannot ular! Ish wasted all those beautiful environment.

Yeap its abit narrow, most probably because of the "cheating" 16:9 view ala Bioshocked where they just crop the 4:3 view to make a it widescreen

As you can see, you're missing quite alot viewing space. Also any games that has less then 90 degrees fov will make you feel headache/nausea. That's why I didnt get Bad Company
