D300 AF Assist

hello guys...
i've noticed something while using my D300... the AF Assist light seldom comes on... in fact...i've never seen it in action.. so here i'd like to know... in wat condition will the AF Assist will function... and how do i check if the AF Assist hass a problem? thanks! |

in low light condition when af cannot focus.
try shot in low light with af assist on. |

Try to do AF focus when the lens cap still on , if the AF light still doesn't in action , check out your Menu if you has disabled it.
Else , send back to Nikon.  |

In menu, turn AF-Assist to 'ON'.
Anything else, leave it to the camera. |

I went to "play" D300 just now in SS2. Noticed the AF works. Light come out...
But is this what you call AF? |

if not mistaken, the AF assist lamp will only fired if u put the center focus point, other than that it won't fire, i'm not sure whether D300 is the same or not.
