Which is better, the Gigabyte 3870 512MB DDR4 256BIT or Gigabyte 8800GT 512MB DDR3 256BIT?

IMO, if u want higher FPS, go for 8800GT, if u want better IQ, go for 3870 (ATI lol).

Quite a lot of lowyat'ians are going for the HD3870 nowadays because of the cheaper price me think.. Just my 2 cents ar... Even me i'm thinkin of gettin the HD3850 in the near future..

quality wise it is 8800, money wise 3870.

More expensive = better. Get 8800gt 512mb version

Not entirely true. 8800GTX is more expensive, but still lose to 8800GTS 512MB in most tests.

let's not forget that while the more expensive usually gives more framerates, it is definitely not the best when it comes to price:performance ratio.

and if you look at 8800GT 512mb vs 8800GT 1GB, you'll see that while the 1GB version costs more, it performs less is most situation.

It depents what company u support only nia.....Both are same Great

i'd go for HD3870

reason :

1. lower power consumption
2. less heat
3. better IQ
4. it's just sexier cooler than 8800GT

many ppl said 3870 cant bear 8800gt but if you Oc it the performance is quite the same

there is a newer version 8800GT with custom cooler from palit.

TS,if u use those in less than 1680*1050,both of them perform almost the same,
well,frame rate,let's say 8800GT in game A get 150fps while 3870 only get 120fps,but one thing u have to know,30fps difference,but can u see the difference with ur eyes?
yeah,that's true that 8800GT smoke 3870 single card vs single card is most of the review due to frame rate,but why there is still 3870 selling right?

beside frame rate,the only thing that can really can see the difference is the Image Quality.

Try doing a a comparison on crysis 8800gt is 45fps while 3870 is 25fps.. now try playing the game.

8800GT can't even run Crysis properly on 1680x1050 without turning down the details.

I think 8800GT or 3870 also won't properly in crysis in 1680x1050

My advice

Single card
8800GT 512MB
or
HD 3850 256MB

8800GT is much faster than HD 3870. DX10.1 is not important and by the time DX10.1 games come out, I dont think 3870 can handle that because it's struggling with current games. Get 3850 and OC it if you want to save money and upgrade to a faster 2nd gen DX10 card.

Dual card
HD 3870 or 3850 crossfire
AMD's Crossfire scales better than nvidia's SLI.

Bear in mind that running dual card setup needs high end PSU so go with single card.

there is good reason to get 3870 comparing to those reference design stock cooler of 8800GT, it a hassle to change to 3rd party cooling .....
