8800GT can't even run Crysis properly on 1680x1050 without turning down the details.

My advice
Single card 8800GT 512MB or HD 3850 256MB 8800GT is much faster than HD 3870. DX10.1 is not important and by the time DX10.1 games come out, I dont think 3870 can handle that because it's struggling with current games. Get 3850 and OC it if you want to save money and upgrade to a faster 2nd gen DX10 card. Dual card HD 3870 or 3850 crossfire AMD's Crossfire scales better than nvidia's SLI. Bear in mind that running dual card setup needs high end PSU so go with single card. |

there is good reason to get 3870 comparing to those reference design stock cooler of 8800GT, it a hassle to change to 3rd party cooling .....
