I just got my 360 elite which btw is the falcon set (i think because it says 175watt on the brick). Got the whole shebang... a 2nd black controller, play charge kit and the HD dvd drive. I even bought the COD4, GOW and Halo3 with it too. I also went to town on the HD DVDs as I bought 12movies. I got only one gripe on the console, it is BLOODY LOUD!!! I have never heard anything louder in my life. I can even hear it over my floor fan. My PS3 by comparison is soo quiet you cant even tell if the damn thing in on. But all is forgiven when i booted up the COD4 and Halo3.... ahhh... total sweeteness. Nothing on the PS3 can even compare (except prolly the upcoming GT5). [edit: Not turning this into an xbox vs PS3 thread, but I cant understand why the hell did sony stick with that stupid looking uncomfortable 80's controller. The only reason I switch to original Xbox is because I hate the PS2 controller and I was bitterly disappointed when I realised that the PS3 came with the same controller. I didnt know about that when I bought it (i was one of the idiots who queue up for it). Untill Sony change the controller for the next PS4, I'm not going to buy it.]

But all this were almost reduced to rubble when I drop the console bag to the ground. It fell off from a BUS!!! Oh the humanity!!! Thanks to the extreme padding on the Halo3 backpack my 360 survives the fall, but not the HD DVD Drive!! It now wont read any disc. Just simply said the disc is unreadable. The drive spool up and eject the tray properly but it cant read the damn discs! Where do you think I can get another HD DVD drive? Anyone got theirs for sale?

funny..my elite doesn't sound that loud compared to the old premium. i love mine as soon as i saw a benQ drive in it. super smooth, and not too noisy.

sorry about your hd dvd bro. like others have said, maybe some are selling theirs since now many hd-dvd enthusiasts are trading in for actual hd-dvd players.

My Elite is crazy loud when I run COD4.

just send back your hd-dvd drive for warranty, dont tell the shop that you drop the hd-dvd drive maaa.. hehehehe (devil devil)...

@bem69: if you could hear noises while playing a game as noisy as COD4, then maybe there's something different with the console. honest to goodness, mine does not growl loud cos if it did..i would've noticed it under the heavy gunfire and floor fans.

not sure if i'm correct, but does moving your console to somewhere more open help with the fan noise? i dunno..i'm too sleepy to think now.

I have ELite too, but i thinks it's not that loud..only loud when reading the game disc..well. honestly, buying Elite is truly a bless (with extra heatsink) but still don't think it can avoid 3ROD(hope it will not happen *cross fingers*)

Thanks guys.. unfortunately I bought my set at bestbuy. Unless someone here are going to the states and help me with my warranty claim I'm pretty much out of luck. My set btw are officially registered under warranty at microsoft. I used my friend home address in australia. The crappy part is the HD-DVD drive only comes with a 3 month warranty while the console came with 3 year warranty. Why wouldnt they gave a decent 1year warranty on it?

Not loud? my friend who got one of the first version 360 (one of the lucky ones that didnt fail) isnt this loud. My 360 rival my PC dvd drive in terms of droning sound and it's a 20x dvd drive. Anybody know what's the drive speed of this new benq unit?

And did I mention I bought the set like 5 days ago and didnt even manage to enjoy HD-DVD in all it's 1080p glory?!! arrgh... the humanity. Sorry I'm still in mourning over the loss of the hd-dvd drive. HOw much does it cost to buy a new one at gamers hideout?

Gamers Hideout is selling the HD-DVD drive at RM650 .. check with Djinn 1st before u goto GH.

i haf to agree wit sdrawkcab, as compared to my previous old premium, its quieter. i remembered gears of war was quite noisy while playing..on elite, damn quiet.. same goes to any other games... except for call of duty 4.. haf to agree wit bem... its really noisy.. dats cos to maintain the framerate of the game.. i think.. otherwise, i love my black box..

My new Premium Pro set also not so loud (its quieter) and using BEN-Q drive. I think all new set using BENQ especially the Falcon set

Nah, its particular loud with COD4, so it could be the disc I guess. Oh well, I've gotten used to it heheh.

are you sure? most of the demos i play are indeed quiet..but why, when i play DOA4 demo...seem to be a lot of sound. especially when girl on girl match.

aaaanyway, hope the benq drive is durable enough to withstand the average gamers' game time (10 hours? yeah..average).

my previous drive showed its signs with the classic braking sound when you stop a game and exit to dashboard. then kaput. oh noes!

Yeah I bought it like 3 days ago. The king kong and bourne identity DVD that came with my old hd-dvd drive is prolly the most expensive HD-DVD ever sold, $179.99. Anybody knows if the HD-dvd sold in m'sia is cencored or not? I notice the govt official sticker on the discs sold here while the bluray discs didnt have it.

I dun think Malaysia govt even got the hardware yet to censor hd-dvd and blu-ray.
