Fall '08 Xbox360 "Ultimate" Rumor, and Speculation...

Well, here is the rumored ; so called "PS3-killer" [Xbox360 Ultimate - is due around autumn 2008] will benefit from almost three years of Xbox development (if that means ANYTHING to anyone); featuring 1080p HDMI output, built-in Wi-Fi (finally), hi-def audio output, lower powered processors (65nm architecture), and a near-silent fan?

It's also said to have the ability to make the most of the "by-then" established Xbox IPTV service, which will mean recording TV shows to its large (large by comparison to what we have now) 320GB hard disk and watching live TV shows via your broadband provider.

But the real deal is; It's said to have a built-in HD DVD drive.

I don't know about you guys, but this is getting crazy. The original Xbox didn't even see this many technological advances in it's small lifespan; modders had to help with that. We already have Three (3) revisions (not counting Cosmetic) of the XB360, many dash ad-ons; and are only a few months past the two-year release date. The original Xbox seems like a N64 compared to the 360 right now. The XB1 remained basically the same the entire time, with only mainboard revisions to curtail modding (which didn't work).

M$ has really found a niche in getting people to "re-up" every year for another Xbox360l gotta hand it to them, huh?

An article in UK-based gadget mag Stuff said that by August 2008, Microsoft will release what the publication called the "Xbox 360 Ultimate."

When contacted by Next-Gen, Microsoft declined to comment on the rumor. However, a separate source close to Microsoft who wished to remain anonymous said that the rumored "Ultimate" is simply not on the cards.

* The official story: Both the Times and Stuff.tv's hypotheses make sense--except for one small thing. In a rare abstention from its tried-and-true rumor response mantra "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation," the software giant is denying it has any plans for an Xbox 360 with an internal HD-DVD player.
"We have reiterated multiple times since launching the Xbox 360 HD-DVD Player that we have no plans to integrate an HD-DVD player in to the Xbox 360," a spokesman told GameSpot. "We feel that offering the drive externally is the best way to give consumers the ultimate choice to create their own high-definition experiences."

* Bogus or not bogus?: Officially bogus--for now--that Microsoft is making a 360 with a built-in HD-DVD player. However, if Microsoft licenses the 360 platform to Toshiba, expect the electronics giant to rush a HD-DVD-hardware-equipped device as quickly as possible to prop up the format's flagging fortunes in the next-gen video war.

Microsoft Corp's Xbox video gaming unit still fully backs Toshiba Corp's HD-DVD high-definition DVD format but could consider supporting Sony Corp's rival Blu-ray technology should consumers want it, an executive said on Tuesday.
"It should be consumer choice; and if that's the way they vote, that's something we'll have to consider," Albert Penello, group marketing manager for Xbox hardware said when asked whether Microsoft would support a Blu-ray DVD accessory in the event that HD-DVD failed.

Microsoft does not believe the surprise decision last week by Time Warner Inc unit Warner Bros, the top seller of home movies, to abandon HD-DVD format in favor of Blu-ray should affect sales of its Xbox 360 video game console, Penello said.
"I fundamentally don't think ... this has a significant impact on Xbox 360 versus (Sony's) PlayStation 3," Penello told Reuters in an interview at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Let us count the ways Albert Pennello, marketing manager for Xbox hardware, told us in a sitdown that the [Reuters] story was wrong, and when HD DVD really is buried in Microsoft's mind.

1. The "headline misconstrued the context of what I said."
2. Microsoft is "not thinking about it."
3. It is "fairly definitive" Microsoft is not doing it.
4. Microsoft has "no plans" to build anything Blu-ray.
5. Microsoft is "totally committed to HD DVD."

So just when is HD DVD dead in Microsoft's eyes? It's "over when Toshiba says they're not doing HD DVD anymore."

it still not ultimate if 3rod still happen.. hopefully this new batch of xbox360 (falcon) really can solve the problem.. and if solve the problem, for that, i well looking forward this ultimate one...

    but but but it a bit annoying to move around with those things... heheheheh.. and also i dun have hd dvd add on.. so hopefully this ultimate one not just omong2 kosong...
