IMEI number, what's the significance?

I recently bought new phone, so i press here and there... try unlocking stuff and suddenly my IMEI turned to 000000/0 ...what should i do now? But i still have the IMEI at the back of my phone's batt.. only appear 000/0 when i press *#06#.... will this harm me anything? Help me please, scare now....

wOO HoO, mine is 01 as appear on back of the battery and the box.. but when press *#06# , get 000/00/00
