QUOTE(onscreen @ Sep 21 2008, 03:23 AM)
1U shop did not close down. If you take your time to refer the first post in this thread, you will know the location of the new shop.

Anyway, i am sorry to say all major listed shops no longer sells hermit crabs. The life in captivity is really short. In the wild, 30 yrs, in captivity, 1~3 years. Mine survived for 1.5 years and 2 years.

Formerly, 1U shop is famous for mini hermit and medium ones until they died too fast during sales. So they have stock on medium large ones, same thing, died even the moist and temperature suits them. The last batch of crabs just died a week i bought from them and i did told them that their time is about time, some of the crabs have bubble at its modified gill.

Mid Valley's Carrefour one is through an agent who specialized in small pets. Same thing happen to the crabs, 20 of them died almost in the same month. I went to Mid Valley today and saw only empty shells and i was told about it.
So, i may lock this thread if there is no new hermit crab selling spot and activity for the next 6 months.

Added on September 30, 2008, 6:06 pmi facing a little problem ,
now in my pool i got half is small river stone (as you can see in the photo) and half of beach sand. washing the small stone isn't a problem for me , but how am i going to wash the sand, since they all are so small in particle. if i put in the water when and i stir the sand with water, how i extract the rubbish or dirty thing from the sand if the thing does not float? and i also facing problem then i pour the water the sand follow the water come out together, and went together to my bath room drain, where i scare my drain will get blocked because of the sand..

any good idea?
this is my first time using sand, so fast i just use stone where very easier to clean

Where's your location?
Just incase some of you can't get beach sand, you may use crushed corals as well. Ask for the smallest grade, if not mistaken is 3. hermits love to burrow inside it. Reusable and cheap compared to beach sand.

For calcium can use cuttle bone. Pets shops selling birds might have them. Or you may be lucky to find some on the beach as well.

Forgot so many terms.. Haha, long time never keep crabs already.

bee002: The small one you have behind the straws is an Ecuadorian or a Rugg?

i not really know how to different the name, but i think i got 3 species 2 are more purple, 1 in more grey black , then 3 arestrawberry
