Today, when my fren took a look at my N82, he returned it to me immediately with an ERROR on the screen and says it needs to be restarted - that was quite scary. Anyone encountered this problem before?

For Google Maps, do we download the .prc or .cab format?
You can't access that folder in your phone. You must take out the memory card and open that folder with a computer. Hope it helps. icon_idea.gif

Oh I see... thanks for educating me! I will give it a shot later.

Yo, download Garmin XT v4.10.60, it's better then Nokia Maps. Also the latest Malsing maps are really detailed. I contributed 1 POI, 2 errors in naming and they gave me the unlock code to the new maps.
*
Yea it's better than Nokia maps, its true. Now I'm trying to unlock to the new maps. How do we check map version?
Maxis does not lock the shortcut key lar. Just go to Tools>Setting>General>personalisation>Standby>Shortcuts and change to whatever you like. I change my to Contact.

Yes, GarminXT is a lot better than Nokia Map. I'm using ver4.10.60 with v2.20G.
*
Yea, Maxis doesnt lock the right key. Its just that I'm not willing to go through all the steps you provided above for someone who doesnt even bother exploring his phone (the other guy complaining above). I realized it went away when I soft-reset my phone so I posted that workaround for him.

You need to download emTube for your phone.
Okay emTube work fine can view & download.....but the download files are *.flv (flash video)......what video player needed to play?
*
Hmmm... I think SmartMovie 3.41 should be able to help you. I thought emTube played .flv as well?

Dont be too concern about the pricing, you got yourself a good investment. Tinker and play with it. I got mine for Rm1,888 Zitron with the Maxis Mobile Deal.

OK two big problems:

1. I am using GMXT with the 6 months ago map as provided in the guide. I realized that the map shows update slower than I drive and I wasnt even going fast, I was doing about 50 - 70kmh only. And if I took a different route than its shown on the GPS, it takes too long to even realized I took a different route and equally as long to re-calculate route. Do you face these problems with the 2.20 maps? Anyone would like to share their experience?

2. Playing with the camera-mode gave me another error message and told me to restart. After I restart, my relative set off fireworks tonight and I took the video of the 148 shots of fireworks. Just when it's about to finish, it showed another error and the video was not recorded successfully.

I used the original memory card provided. I doubt it's the card speed. I've seen other users reporting the same error I have on other forums. I am using GMXT 4.10.60 and map v2.15. Sheesh... Maybe gonna reset my phone later.

Added on February 15, 2008, 9:15 amLooks like I need to wait for the US version of the firmware cause right now the latest firmware is only released in EU.

Changes / Improvesment made from firmware 10.0.046 to version 11.0.117:
* Camera application:
o Improvements of 'Unexpected error...' probability when starting up with quick succession of camera lens cover open/close
* Music player (Music player stability):
o Fix for music player freeze when operating app from accessory remote controller e.g. BT headsets, AD-54 etc.
* Map application:
o Reset fix when opening Map app from landmark app
o Long Map app closing time
o Address search in Chinese character

That is not soft-reset, thats will restored the phone back to factory setting and by doing this you can potentially kill an installed app. in your phone, not recommended.
Changing the shortcuts is the proper way to customize it to your needs.
*
Yes. I am aware it restore back to factory setting because it will ask when we hit those keys. Yea, great - those proper ways sure come in handy.

QUOTE(NewKid @ Feb 15 2008, 11:50 AM)
Why need to wait?

Most of us have version 11.0.117. Just use ur Nokia Software updater. can update.
*
I tried to update and the software said my phone is not supported... I thought this firmware is only released for EU phones?

What you can do with your GPS is that, make sure you get decent GPS signal first before you get into your car. Try to get 3 bars, then only enter your car and drive. This way it's more accurate.

This is proven just today. When I was going to work, I detect the GPs signal in the car. Then I travelled to work. The speed shown is wrong. When I was driving at 150kmh, it shows 80kmh. I got to work and asked my friend who's familiar with GPS device and he told me to get the signal before entering the car. I tried this on the way back and my speed showed correctly. Also try to zoom in to the MAX and then zoom out three times...

Sometimes, when the road is zig zag or curvy, when you zoom out too far, its a bit hard to draw the map, therefore it will show your arrow in a wrong direction / location. For example, I drive from Kesas to Elite to Cyberjaya for work. The turning point from Kesas connecting to Elite, it showed my car in Klang River... I was like WTF?!

Also, the GPS on the N82 IS a bit slow in response, I admit it cause I tried to beat the estimate arrival time by speeding up but my GPS receiver still show the older value on my travelling speed. What you can do is use less detail on the map, this generally helps but not 100%.

Added on February 16, 2008, 2:54 amThe Nokia Software Updater used to update your firmware on a N82 is the version 1.4.23. Google it and you can find it from the europe.nokia.com website.

Consumer GPS are like that. It lack accuracy and performance.

The maps we have from malsing is also not very accurate. Imagine thousands of people giving informations such as track and POI. It is bound to have errors here and there. So far i have tested the v2.15 is quite accurate. Consumer GPS hard to get better than 10m accuracy espeacially for phones with GPS.

All in all it is just a guide. Like your reverse sensor. nothing there also beep beep. Cant rely on it 100%. Need to use human judgement.

ps: penny, drive safely... 150km/h?????
*
Hey hey, thanks for your advise - I was just trying to beat the GPS speed, to proof that detecting the GPS signal before entering the car and detecting it after entering the car got difference. icon_rolleyes.gif I wont drive that madly anymore. tongue.gif

Guys, which audio player do you use to listen to mp3? I find this N82 default player is not too helpful especially when it comes to fast forwarding. When I hit the FF button, it goes to the next song. How do I make it so that it would go to the next 20 minutes? Can we do it with this player or we need an alternative player?

Do advise. THank you.

Guys, I am wondering whether you all have this problem when updating latest firmware from Nokia Software Updater.

It shows that "Phone is not supported" when i connected my phone with usb cable. Is it because I bought my phone from CSL and it is not original?

Grrrrrrr... HELP HELP
*
Your Nokia Software Updater is 1.4.00... You need to download version 1.4.23 to be able to upgrade your N82 firmware.

hmm.gif today i used GPS for about 30 minutes, wifi abit, surfed using 3g/3.5g a few minutes, and took a few useless pictures in class, and it went down a bar.
a few games later it went down another bar! rclxub.gif

maybe it's just me,but the battery is kinda weird...sometimes goes down easily, sometimes takes forever to go down laugh.gif
personally,i think the sound kinda sux doh.gif
even measured on it's own.. sweat.gif
i used a 3230 before this, and the ringtone i used which had to be modified(had to make the volume louder, since the phone had soft speakers) sounds even worst on the n82.
it is somewhat louder, but during certain parts of the song it goes shallow(the sound volume)

when i have the time,i'll try a new set of the same tone.. hmm.gif
did you have the latest firmware on that phone?
maybe when you bought it,it had the latest firmware on board?

sometimes upgrading the firmware does wonders tongue.gif
we've just gone past CNY,so i think it'll take some time for them to restock(this is malaysia, you know? tongue.gif )
be patient dude, who knows you might be able to get the black n82 brows.gif  drool.gif
195 for 8gb?? shocking.gif
lol i remember buying a 4gb fake mspd for 140 a few months ago doh.gif

tempted to get the 8gb myself drool.gif

do report back if you happen to fill it up to the full 8gb tongue.gif

on a seperate note, anyone manage to check their processor speed?
i tried checking it with some kind of software, which i cant find atm rclxub.gif  doh.gif  and it stated the speed as 206mhz blink.gif
i thought this phone was in the lower 300s? sweat.gif
anyone can confirm? icon_question.gif

btw, anyone know of a good screenshot program?
sucks not being able to take screenies on this phone doh.gif

As I know, GPS makan a lot of battery wan. I dont do gaming so I cannot comment. But the battery dont seem all that great to me as written in GSMarena.com. It still dwindles at least 1 or 2 bar after a day. All I did was play with GPS, update my expenses and listen to audio-books on my way to work and back.

I agree with you that the sound is not too impressive. I tried speaking to my gf on Loudspeaker and she couldnt hear me at times. I didnt have the problem with my old N70. I take the same route to and from work when using my N70 and now N82. The N70 seems clearer and no line putus but N82, line got putus twice today.

QUOTE(BBXiong @ Feb 20 2008, 12:04 AM)
no lar, i don have one...
originally plan to get one, but plan screwed cos not enuf money anyway...
just my opinion lar, i see u guys talking about bugs, when i read i also feel a bit dizzy....just makes me think that it's slightly too much bug in this phone..
let's just hope that the nxt FW will solve most of the bugs...
all the best for N82!!!

Dont worry man, save up and wait for the price to drop! Pamper yourself!

slide the shutter, and nothing comes out, save for a black screen doh.gif
happens occasionally,but nothing else..
the internet radio or normal radio?
i just tried the internet radio a minute ago(and still am listening to it)
good stuff,im surprised my 512k can actually play it smoothly laugh.gif
(it even fades out when you change channels-doesnt just change)
laugh.gif same here thumbup.gif

oh,anyone using this site?: Nokia Sports tracker
*
Black screen is much like the lens baru buka mata... like humans I think and I think this behavior is normal. Anyway, I got that error about 3 times and it was quite bad. I was recording a video of fireworks at my grandma house and at the end, couldnt save the video - bengang only.

I was talking about normal radio. If internet radio, we just go to those Hitz.FM / Fly FM website and register and it will play on the browser, right? Is that the one you're talking about?

Nokia sports tracker belum try but good find! However, I think the N82 GPS is a bit laggy. My friends who are more familiar with GPS devices said that built-in GPS on phones (exclude PDAs) are generally a little slow. I experienced it before and I know that if you get the signal before you enter the car, that helps. I also changed the configuration of my GMXT like less detail map and also point the arrow on the GPS position, not the road. Have not tried GPS since then. Will try and update tomorrow.

Ok, I need to ask you guys if any of you experience the line got cut more often than when you use your previous phone? I realize that N82 always terminate / disconnect my phone conversation.

This is not because I was driving along Elite / Kesas to work. It is because it IS terminating even when I am at home, when I am seated in the office, etc.

Anyone else feels the same?

Ever since we installed GMXT, we encounter problem with our SMSes, etc. We have to "end task" a running program but I cannot see the program listing.

I know there is a program (I forgot the name) but it needs to be signed. Does anyone know the name of the program signed, the running programs that needs to be terminated?

Please share with me. Thank you.

Added on April 25, 2008, 10:41 pmOh by the way, I have another problem.

MMS settings for N82. Any of you have it working with Maxis 012? I have never been able to use MMS but whenever I called Maxis (over 3 - 5 times now), they keep telling me that my MMS is activated.

What's the process and what do I have to do? Is there any number and instructions I can SMS to, to receive the automated MMS settings?

Nah... finally I got it fixed after so long. It's the APN control restriction. After deactivating the APN control, I delete all the Access Point and have Maxis re-send me the configurations. It works now! Happy!!!

By the way, what are some of the cool applications now? I also have installed in my N82 is the June / July 2007 map. Anyone can PM me where to find Jan 2008 map? Is there any special contributions required?
