Not sure about Genting. But I can assure you that by buying GenM you will have the vouchers. Got it few times oredi
I don really agree with the idea... invest in a company in order to get those "free vouchers" High Dividend Counters, Better than putting in FD

QUOTE(Jordy @ Aug 9 2009, 01:21 AM) Yes. As a GENTING shareholder, you would be invited to Genting's shareholders dinner as well. If i want to do business, surely i will do those type of businesses that everyone needed the most no matter during recession or not... which is their basic needs. Visit Garage Sales section, search for "Genting vouchers". "now i am hoping to hold the counter as long as possible...probably i will set a target of 5 years horizon" 5 years is not long. It is the shortest possible period for long-term investing. I would like to hold my counters for few generations if possible. "So far what i can see that APOLLO volumen very slims.... and i couldn't believe that their products are those chocolates cakes" Have you checked their financial statements? They make huge profits from selling kids stuffs. I love eating those as they remind me of my childhood moments. "i have tried to search around like Public bank, bjtoto, tanjong, amway, bat, apollo, mamee, jti, carlbergs, ytl-power, guiness etc.... and yet to find one" I don't know what you are looking for, but for me, I would buy PBBANK, AMWAY, BJTOT and JTI. And i think consumer products are what ppl always needed no matter what situation.... |

QUOTE(GregPG01 @ Oct 27 2009, 10:51 PM) Never follow what ppl say. I think "knowing what you are doing is the upmost important"I agree with what Jason said as i am doing this way too. After my dividend is high enough (So far only 1 counter for me) i can use the dividend to pick up any dividend / growth stock i want. But not saying that you are wrong either just that different strategies. This post has been edited by darkknight81: Oct 28 2009, 08:06 AM |

QUOTE(Kamen Rider @ Nov 7 2009, 10:13 PM) snack companies .... mm.... heard of mamee, apollo with decent dividends.... but my worry they are small...cap... companies ??? Apollo eventhough small cap but the dividend is sustainable. Futhermore they exports their products. When the price was RM 2.5 i wait for RM 2.2 but too bad... watching it shoot up till 3.00+ ..... |

We don judge small cap and big cap by the the share price. Judge it by the market capitalization which is number of shares x share price
I still think that diversifying too much is not a good choice. Why pick up the best 20 instead of picking up the best 3 ? |

QUOTE(SKY 1809 @ Dec 10 2009, 08:20 PM) If you prefer smaller cap, then take a look at REITs . I would say some reit has higher risk compare with another. As you need to see type of properties they are in and also how they diversify their properties portfolio.I like REIT tax structure whereby you are taxed at only 10% instead of normal 25%. Smaller capital outlay and with more consistent dividend payouts. Unlikely to have special lumpy Dividends . Risk factor, many claim reits to be high risk. My personal opinion is : Moderate Risk . Judge your own. |

QUOTE(SKY 1809 @ Dec 11 2009, 12:57 AM) Yes, you are right. Sorry , i meant among the reits some is having higher risks compare with another reits. For example, UOA REITS risk is lower compare with atrium. We need to check their properties portfolio.Generally, Risks are classified into conservative, moderate and High Risk , for so called Investments. Generally, Equity is deemed to be High Risk across the board. Again for share investment, higher risk could be due to High Beta ( Big Price Movement ) and Standard Deviation and so on. For those with low beta comes with smaller risk. Growth Factor and Time Horizon. Liquidity and so on. "Higher risk" is also possible if a particular company operates in many third world countries ( emerging markets ) , or like Dubai and so on. If taking in these factors, investing in M REITS to me is quite a " Moderate" risk , my own term. Also if you spend time to understand them. No doubt, it is good to start with Fear ( by asking all sorts of Q ) than Greed ( asking for only rates of returns ). Not saying you are wrong anyway. |

QUOTE(SKY 1809 @ Mar 8 2010, 09:03 AM) But the problem with many dividend investors ( from the info I gathered from this thread ) just invest according to the past dividends track records. Yup agree with you dividend growth and sustainability is very crucial for dividend investors. Seldom they read whether the company's core business is improving or otherwise. ( with the Exceptions of YTL Power and REITS investors ), so long the dividends are consistently given. They are more happy to get special dividends, but in fact the company concerned could be selling off very profitable business to related parties. The special dividend could be just a cover up of their great plannings. Even there is an increase in BLR, not all banks get to enjoy better profits. Some may drop in term of profits. Do not mean it is the wrong way to invest. Just Many things have been taken for granted. Best of luck to all. |

QUOTE(carmentee @ Dec 9 2010, 12:40 AM) For dividend play, normally you don trade. YOu are going for long term E.g. 5 years , 10 years or more. So you must make sure that the company that you have invested really can pay good dividend and most importantly it is sustainable. |
