Rumors says that WMP somehow modifies the memory allocation of WOW?
I do notice a small difference. I dunno whether its just another placebo effect.
on my machine... lolhttp://www.wowinsider.com/2007/12/19/media...ow-performance/

but i am a lil interested in the lower latency part, but i doubt it'll work as its probably due to older/weaker machines having more resources freed/properly allocated and resulting in less hardware bottlenecking (especially the NICs) thus resulting lower latency. (eg: low ass FPS usually results higher latency, especially if ur proc's always on load/occupied)
as many people commented on that, its probably the audio libraries loaded so WoW dont have to bother with it. still a lot of guessworks atm though
=edit=
good finding nonetheless and would probably help a lot of people that runs on weaker machines
