AMD just took the wraps off their ATI R680, RV620, and RV635 graphics cores. The new R680 consists of two 55-nm processor cores with CrossFireX support sharing the same specifications of the RV670 processor at the heart of their Radeon HD 3870 -- thought to be AMD's best product of the year. The RV620 and RV635 GPU cores are nearly identical to their RV610 and RV630 processors only in a new 55-nm form. Now, imagine if you will a pair of ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 (R680) cards running in CrossFire. Or say four with CrossFireX. Feels good, right? You won't have to wait much longer as the R680 hits in January.
...it seems AMD is pushing real hard to launch it in January 2008. Apart from DX10.1, SM 4.1, PCIe 2.0 and UVD support, it also supports display port and next generation Crossfire. We learned that R680 has 320 stream processors like the R600 and supports double precision floating point. So effectively, R680 is an enhanced R600 with finer process technology and more features. CJ told us that R680 is clocked at 800Mhz+ and comes with 512MB or 1GB GDDR3 memories but we knew that R680 supports GDDR4 too. Most likely it will come with 512-bit memory interface. Along with R680, we should be seeing RV635 and RV620 replacing HD 2600 (RV630) and HD 2400 (RV610) respectively as well as HD 2950 Pro (RV670) to form a complete top to bottom line-up
Here is some leak pics of R680. There are only three main chips on board, 2*RV670XT and one PLX chip for two GPU commmuications. All 16 memory chips (8 on the front and 8 on the back) are missing on the board. Source said the card is using 0.7ns GDDR4 memory. Also we can notice two digital PWN power modules. QUOTE(frags @ Jan 16 2008, 10:03 PM) Seriously just get what you can afford....no point allowing fanboy loyalty to stop you from getting your moneys worth from a purchase. The most important stat is the price performance ratio which you can get a lot of info on the net on the new GC's. ya get wat ever u afford . nvidia or ati both same
