Crysis will still tax HD4xxx series lar...so don't expect much. Unless CF R680 or something.

QUOTE The (mis)named 9800GX2 is in reality just two "new" 8800GTS-512 units put together, giving each "half" its own PCB. - From theinquirer Is this true? 9800GX2 is just G92 8800GTS put together? It's a little bit disappointing if it's true.. Anyway, I wonder why they like Dual-chip solution so much.. I know it's cheaper this way, but the software doesn't usually support dual-chip cards unless patched. Which means, need to wait for the developers and GFX card maker to supply the drivers to play the game.. I hope it doesn't end up like 7950GX2.. |

QUOTE(lee82gx @ Jan 16 2008, 09:26 AM) still getting killed by crysis is a definite ouch... Let's not get over-demanding. Crytek purposely designed Crysis to be a 100-ton King Kong. Even NVIDIA has a hard time trying to run it smoothly even though it's The Way It's Meant To Be Played. NVIDIA were the guys who gave life to Crytek originally, remember? I like the way Crytek is pushing the GPU limits...it means that we are advancing well. I hate to let it be stagnant like the consoles...I have nothing against the consoles though.who needs GPU power for anything else? freaking COJ? come on AMD..!! |

over-demanding is one thing, those x2 scores are basically same or even less than a single 3870

QUOTE(lee82gx @ Jan 16 2008, 10:05 AM) you, like many others choose to ignore the fact that i'm referring to the crysis benchmark @ 1280x800 NOT the useless 3dmark06 Sigh...did I even mentioned 3dmark06? I guess you are referring to the one I post. Well, as you like. Go Google some more. Find the one whereby R680 can run Crysis at "playable" frame rate at 2560x1600 while HD3870 just stutter along. |

Well, the thing about Crysis is it doesn't scale too well with CF or SLI setups. If everything works right, it should get an enhancement of 70-80% over single card.
Hopefully, the developers will come out with a patch that fixes this. As for 3DMarks, I think 3DMark03 is a better benchmark than '06. It's not bottlenecked by processor that much, unless you're running triple card configuration. |

I feel that there's a compelling need to benchmark your CPU as well. In a game, the GPU will handle the graphics (shadows, AA, lighting, etc.) but the CPU handles a hell lot of stuffs as well (AI - everyone in the game and not just those you see on screen - their movement, behaviour, etc., pathfinding - everyone as well, audio - if using onboard solution, physics - w/o Ageia, mapping, etc.) CPU is just as important for 3D.
