correction: price/performance is important... not price only...

yea 3870 cant be Oc at all and its using ddr4 rams

CES 2008: Late January

Once ATI launches its dual RV670 board you can expect it to be in decent volumes. This is the plan and if ATI wanted to launch a limited number was able to do it back in December.


Samples are in good shape and hardware was finished back at December but we are still waiting for the final driver.

This is a tricky product as some games will scale really well but some including Crysis are much more unfriendly to the dual cards and ATI wants to make sure that it has the best driver possible when it launches this card. The plan is to introduce them in late January.

I just measured my motherboard layout, the R680 will hit my SATA port and cable. I guess I got to stay away with this card anymore. Very sad.

can oc but headroom a bit only...duh ....dont be sarcastic la,i own both before then i trade in,so i believe i know what im talking about hmmm??i even run it at cf just play around and came up to conclusion dont ever get x38 gigabyte ds5 to do cf...it will ruin your games,flickering everywhere.....
but on asus x38 mobo doesnt seem to be a problem...so maybe it a driver problem...

im not a fan boy of any brand,i just buy what the best can suit me,no need to be a fan boy and justify good product/bad product,the best things is try it yourself and experiance it...trade it with your friend or forum if itchy to try others....

so far as i said it before,nvidia is faster,both card doesnt show any different IQ on vista but on the xp it totally diferent story..IQ wins on 3870...exspecially if you use modified driver like tweakforce driver,it look so much better,but then the draw back is a little bit slower if compare to 88gt even oc also wont be that good...that why i trade it out and get this 88gts,and of course i will buy this card R680 and try it out to check it for myself...frankly telling you that review always have it doubt,the best things is experiance it yourself...

did u update your bios for 3870?Cause the stock got limit.I dont game so much alry so i want to get 3870 for the better IQ and i believe still can play every game at high la not graphic whore also

yup update and mod bios also la....im not gaming much just in to oc like to push the clock yo max that all...

or, but the reduced price hd3800 series or 8800gt, after new gc come out

i tried both before,
MSI 8800GT: 730/1000 from 600/900 with stock cooler 100% fan speed. ~21% oc
Sapphire 3870: 950/1300 from 777/1125 pencil modded with stock cooler 80% fan speed. ~22% oc

i wander who will buy HD3800 series .
if it is slower then 8800 Series , ??
expensive then 8800 Series . ??
IQ is not better then 8800 Series ??
consume more power then 8800 Series ??

ya true that why i trade in my 88gt and 3870 to get gts....standard for 88gts xfx....650/972/1625 oc to 820/1000/2000 no v mod easily can hit....damn this is a gem...

yup my guess is bcoz of direct x 10..so both card are in par except for the speed when utilizing dx10 graphic,so no visible iQ which is sad coz,ati known for their good IQ..

Not really, ATi is still better at IQ. Ive used my new 3870 for less than a week and i already notice the change from 8800GTS. The most obvious part where Ati IQ is better is at HD movie playback, even my desktop looks very vibrant. And crysis looks a tad better, not in term of Effects, but colour vividness.

so you mean if use ATI HD38++ series the colours of my monitor in game or watever will be more sharper , intense , cooler deeper then Nvidia cards ?

i am vista x86 user.. the different thing i've got is gaming experience & hd video with cat 7.12 ....so wonderful....
good framerate.. good IQ... good adaptive AA

my 88gts using xp, nothing interesting.. but quite faster in framerate.. but poor IQ with every incoming nvidia ..BETA/WHQL driver...

from my experience YES NVIDIA is just an faster FPS whore card which is how they can gain more FPS because they render less graphical details unlike ATI

why dont you unplug the nvidia and put it into that vista rig...just try it yourself...but under xp yes i dont object that ati image produce better IQ,but then if you try playing around with nvidia ctrl panel you can imrove it a bit but still not up to the ati IQ..ati win in this department
but i myself wonder i dual boot,i try xp ok,good IQ for ati,unplug the card fix in nvidia then boot again yes can truly see the different then boot again try vista same procedure,hmmm didnt see a large diferent between ati and nvidia IQ..
