I decided to teach myself playing an instrument, a piano, well: keyboard. Where do I start?

I do not have time to go to school and I am not hoping to become a real pianist. I just want to be able to play the instrument. I used to play guitar, a good few years ago, I know chords and such, but never learned reading notes.

Perhaps you can chime in and give some tips..

personally it's kinda hard to learn piano online.... google is your best friend here.
You can choose to either learn to read the notes (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) or read tabs.
Reading notes....wikipedia for the rough descriptions, then probably browse through limewire or whatever you use to get your stuff for manuals on piano/keyboard for dummies and move on from there.
Tabs, http://www.911tabs.com should do the trick.

But if you don't mind going for guitar, i recommend 911tabs.com for well, song tabs, and also http://www.all-guitar-chords.com for detailed descriptions of chords and scales.

You need to know this at least:

Basic things about piano is the left hand is bass (rhythm) and the right hand is for melody. So if you play piano keys from left to right you will get from a low pitch to a high pitch sound.

So piano chords are the same with the guitar. Most of the time piano chords are 2 to 5 notes (basically I always plays with 2 or 3 chords notes). Pianist plays the chords mainly on the left hand.

Piano melodies, just like playing solos on the guitar.

You can start charting the piano notes. It is better to take piano classes. It is hard to be a play-by-ear pianist, better read notes and charting them one by one.

One more thing, everything starts from slow. smile.gif
