I think you are mistaken on something. DVI and HDMI are different inputs, DVI doesn't transfer audio. HDMI does.

Also the HD audio you're talking about.... technically there is no such thing as HD audio, its just either called DTS or Dolby Digital. Anyways, fade in and fade out on the sound occurs on anything that is connected through the audio out port of the S2409W.

So you'll need to connect your headphones to your Z-5500 instead.

Eh got lar..... it's called Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. Normal DTS and DD give's you 5.1 while HD audio outputs 7.1. But of course you'd need a receiver with HDMI that can decode such output, optical can only give u normal DD5.1 and DTS. laugh.gif

I know.

Thing is, it just isn't the right term for it. High Definition sound? Does that even make sense?

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD are just gimmicks anyway.
*
Yes it does coz it's encoded at higher sampling and bitrate compared to normal DD and DTS. It's definitely not a gimmick. HD video are pretty much just video with higher bitrate and resolution as well. Both are pretty much the same comparison really. nod.gif

So, meaning only HDMI can give 7.1 and optical only to 5.1? Or actually, it doesn't matter since it's digital anyway?
*
Yup only HDMI can give u 7.1 or even 5.1 HD audio as optical connection had limited bandwidth so you're stuck with only standard definition DD5.1 and DTS audio thru optical output. tongue.gif

I don't hear much(if any) of a difference from 5.1 and 7.1 to be quite honest... maybe its my ears, but I'm still rather much calling it a gimmick. Higher bitrate it may be, but if it doesn't sound better then its no use.
*
Obviously it would sound better but you'd also need to spend alot to benefit from it as well. For most, DD5.1 and DTS still suffice. nod.gif
