QUOTE(TerryZeroX @ Apr 29 2008, 02:57 AM) Hi guys, may I ask a simple question? How does the display differs from a Samsung and a BenQ LCD Monitor? Which brand does the "WOW!" display lol. Its for my PS3 anyways definitely Samsung. BenQ has poorer contrast ratio across the range, it's quite budget-oriented so can't really make a fair comparison here. |

ok I was pretty set on getting a 22", but now I hear about this cropping issue.. so only 24" will be capable of showing fullscreen @ 720p eh? even 19" won't make the cut? damn.

QUOTE(Thunderbolt @ May 13 2008, 12:32 AM) If the LCD support the 1:1 pixel mapping, there will be no crop issue. Widescreen LCD are 16:10 while PS3/Xbox360 are 16:9, thus the LCD need to crop it in order to fit the screen. thanks for the explanation bro! Even if you get 24" (1920x1200), you still need 1:1 pixel mapping support. 1920x1200 will be full screen under 1080p format but the image will be stretched to fit the screen. Through pixel mapping method, you will see black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. This is normal because it output the correct 1080p format. hmm from the picture above, the cropping seems quite bad. so I need to get one with pixel mapping now, I don't think I can live with the cropping, it'll reduce the gameplay experience any recommendations? does the Viewsonic VX2235wm-5 have pixel mapping? I was pretty set on that one. edit: hmm after some reading it seems that only the Samsung 2253BW is capable of 1:1 pixel mapping. and it seems that only GT5P at 720p has this issue.. haih big decision to make here, the Samsung 2253bw is RM100 more expensive than the Viewsonic, and for a working student, that's alot of money.. i just don't want my images to be cropped.. it's better that i equip myself with the knowledge beforehand than be disappointed later on, no?

student working part-time here to earn cash la friend, plus, if I buy a 32-incher, there's no way I can carry that into uni..
and if I use my dad's 32-inch, I can't play at nights.. only during the day when he's not around.. still, I might consider just that.. This post has been edited by nerd: May 13 2008, 03:32 PM |

I just bought a Samsung 2253BW today
RM910. very happy with the PQ. my PS3's coming tonight so I'll be able to see how it performs. it looks FREAKING SWEET with the Xbox 360 hooked up to it, so I'm expecting something similar from the PS3. |

gonna use DVI to HDMI.
use the composite cables to connect to your speakers, and get the PS3 to output sound from there. it's possible. check out the PS3 beginner's thread for more info. |

i just got GT5P today, my first game ..
playing it on my Samsung 2253BW. weirdly enough, when i'm displaying at 720p, the image gets cropped left and right.. didn't happen with any of the other demos i downloaded. the Grid demo received black bars top and bottom. on the other hand, when i force it to display 1080p, the monitor complains that it's not the optimum reso but still displays it.. and the picture is perfect without any cropping!! anybody with the same monitor experienced the same thing as me? |
