you need change your scanner from 72 dpi to 300 dpi.
I scan a lot of photos, books etc.. no problem.
Not much noise. You may want to save as TIFF format.
Jpeg photos quality may lose out every time you open it.
You can always rely on batching your file using a software to convert it to TIFF.
