He is an ex-yakuza and murdered people, so it is logical that some one will make a revenge on him thus the dead of Haruo. What makes it touching is how he used his body to protect Panya-san. He is a sad figure, got to jail, girl friend passed away, best friend took his money... but for sachi he is an angel, this is very true. Panya-san also have to admit that Haruo helped him a lot especially on the relationship between Sachi and Panya-san.
