XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog (640mhz core clock version) here.

Here's my experience so far.

4x AA 8x AF
FEAR - crashes in 5 mins
Crysis - crashes in 10 mins

No AA no AF
FEAR - crashes in 15mins
Crysis - crashes in 15mins

No AA no AF (Downclocked to Nvidia's revision clocks)
No crash so far in 30 mins, will play longer soon.

Both tests are done with 70% fan speed with Rivatuner.
Max temp is about 65-67C

Could be driver issues, no diff with the latest WHQL certified and beta drivers.

These babies run hot. Since it's a "1 piece" heatsink fan design, the overall heat could be bad for the voltage regulators heat transfer/dissapation.

I'm very much anticipated for 8800GT coolers, but they carry quite a hefty, price.

better get aftermarket cooler if plan to oc... your max temp looks ok but still got crash problem? hope that is driver issue...

sotong, weird isn't it? too bad i can't monitor them VR chips.
*
yes, max temp @ 67c with stock cooler is pretty impressive for me, but the crash occurrences seem abnormal. few with zotac pre-oc amp version also got hang issue, with the memory downclocked, the issue resolved... try to downclock on memory only to 900 and retain the default gpu & shader clock.

that is good, casing air flow is good i suppose...

QUOTE(skymyxe @ Dec 16 2007, 06:42 AM)

The XFX 8800GT 512MB PV-T88P-YDQ4 have a bigger fan than the rest of the lineups. It also has the core clock increase to 625 instead of 600 original.  icon_rolleyes.gif
*
actually the zotac amp also comes with bigger fan but the heat dissipation is so-so only, so better wait for factory fully customized cooler or diy with aftermarket cooler

Why can't the manufacturer of graphics card partner with manufacturer of coolers? Would love to see how they come up with enthusiast board. Throw away free games, I want a good heatsink.

there is a brand (can't recall) comes with zalman vf1000
btw, the stock vs vf1000 temp reading:

u can even set a few temperature thresholds yourself and set the fan speed when the temps pass the respective thresholds.  all with rivatuner.
*
yes, i do that too, refer to the guide:

I disagree on the comment. My current system/gpu is bottleneck by my CPU. Give you benchmark examples:

At 600/900, 3D Mark 06 : 9250
At 650/950, 3D Mark 06 : 9350
At 700/990, 3D Mark 06 : 9480

The system would never reach 10K due to cpu limitation. Even my 8800GTS 320MB reached 9300 at 620/980. I am waiting for my Phenom.
*
yeah, proc is a factor in 3dmark06 score but does it translate to in-game performance/fps?

hard to tell but its pretty balanced out no? CPU and GPU.

how do u correlate it to in-game performance since the gfx is the most influential? thks~

Guys,

Need some oppinion here. Is it worthy to get the 256MB version of the 8800GT for its current price point? And, is it recommended to run games at 19" native resolution and above? Between this and the 256MB HD3850, which is better?
*
refer to this site for your 3dmark06 score comparison, next few pages will show u some in-game performance
