I wonder any of you guys reapplied the 8800GT's thermal paste before BUT using back the stock heatsink (not 3rd party cooler).

Any of you guys did it before? I might want to reapply those thermal compound hoping to get "better" temperature. smile.gif

I guess you can try to change the thermal compound. But since 8800GT generates a lot of heat, so even apply to new TC, it won't be any significant decrease in the temperature... unless u change to a 3rd party cooler.

just my opinion. smile.gif

i want to try to change the thermal compound. but i duno whether it is worth it or not ler.

u see ah. my idle temp is 55C (67% fan speed) while load 70-75C or even higher (100%). I'm using Asus SmartDoctor to control the temperature at the moment and Rivatuner to monitor the temp.

I want to change to 3rd party cooler, but thinking of the voiding warranty thingy makes it not an option for me.

I google about it and what i found was this : http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1240142 (the stock compound looks sucky) lol

u using asus 8800GT TOP edition with the glaciator fan or like reference 8800GT fan???

if urs is glaciator fan.. im sure that ur casing temperature is hot.... change to a better casing with better airflow....

but i think urs is reference fan since u said can adjust fan speed... >_<".. if it is the reference cooler then u want it lower temperature then go buy 3rd party cooler, artic acelero dunno s1 or s2... RM100.... and if u got more money pay RM45 more to get the turbo module....its far more better than u reapply the Thermal compound which only will decrease less than 5'c at best i think...

My 8800 GT TOP is the that looks like this:

(which is also known as the reference version).

Well this is my experience to share with you guys la. Hope so u guys wont be harsh on me - no offense. This is my first time using a so-called high end GC (i know its not the highest of "the high end" YET) since i needed to revamped a new comp. well, I had no prob using the comp until i tried playing hard-core 3d games like Crysis. It hanged so often after playing like 10 or 20 minutes of it. So, i figured out there must be something wrong somewhere. I went to log my temp using the nvidia software bundle. And guess what, i was surprised that my gc could actually boil an egg for me - 90C. and imagine getting a new comp with a so-called TOP edition GC and still hang. Then i switched to rivatuner to increase my fan speed and had the comp for better air flows with cable management. But I still conclude that the stock cooler seriously s*ck like mad wei. I couldn't believe at first that nvidia could build such a stupid dumb fan for its GC.

I've seriously thought about getting a 3rd party cooler. But the warranty thingy seriously bangs my mind out of it.

another 88GT TOP user review.. thumbup.gif

lucky i din buy this gc..all shops in lowyat sold out d..dun blame nvidia bro..blame ASUS for the fan and heatsink..
Compared to ZOTAC AMP! heatsink they have ventilation near the fan unlike the ASUS TOP..
The shop seller told me only 3 company approved by nvidia to OC till 700/200 for GTs..eVGA,ZOTAC and forgot the other one..i cant confirmed on this..maybe he lied..
if i were u i use 3rd party cooler..if u keep sending to them for warranty then when u gonna use the card..somore takes weeks after u get back ur card..i cant stand that

u check ur reference cooler is with bigger diameter fan or smaller.... reference cooler also got 2 kinds... at 1st they release the smaller diameter then they realise already and change to a bigger diameter fan... but still quite bad in temp.. thats why there is so many diff unique cooler out there... TOP edition got 2 kind where 1 with reference fan and another 1 with glaciator fan which is better.... TOP edition means for the factory overclock clockspeed... not really direct related to the cooler.... anyway it is TOP edition which is the fastest 8800GT in market already for now.

i heard ppl say using a fan blower to suck out the hot air from ur GC will help quite alot....

about warranty void when changing 3rd party cooler..... i think there shudnt be any problem as long as u can make sure u dont spoil anythg physically when u change to 3rd party cooler... and also replace back the given cooler when u wanna go for RMA.... this is bcoz the manufacturer known very well that 3rd party cooler is very common among enthusiast PC user and they earn the most from enthusiast PC user... tongue.gif.....

correct me if im wrong.....

Lol. For the CPU temp - idle will be like 44C , Load - not sure. But i know that the stock 6000+ HSF is different than the normal ones with heat copper heat pipe(i dont know which is which).

FYI for no misunderstanding or anything, the 90C load of my 88gt is before my first ever cable management on that casing. now my load temp only 75C at max. A HUMONGOUS change in temp. However, still not satisfy with the current temp maar.

AND, my casing now like ORCHESTRA ler. because i fit it SO many fans (excluding CPU and GC) already got like 6 fans. 3x120mm , 1x80mm, vivo card cooler (two fans). LOL. Well, I'm still noob maar, didnt know that fitting so many fans also temp no change. Because this is my first experience. notworthy.gif blush.gif .
