What I see is there are two version of fans installed on 8800GT (with stock cooler) the XFX uses slightly bigger fan. See difference here between XFX cards and eVGA cards

That's the reason why XFX cards monitors lower temperature

but then i tot thats xfx is 256mb card instead of 512mb? xfx got launch another 512 version with bigger fan rite...

no la, that's the 2d clock speed for the card..
when in 2d mode, the card will throttle down to 450/700...
but when u play 3d games, the clockspeed will go to normal 700/1900...
gigabyte set 2 different clockspeed profile in their 8800gt's bios  smile.gif

anyway we can make it to stay ay 3d clockspeed? dun want in 2d.

why want 3d clockspeed for 24/7 when u got 2d/3d mode and also u dont need it all the time..... when u set to 3dmode 24/7... means ur card work harder for all the time = more heat = fan speed faster = more noise = ur whole internal ambient temperature higher = ur 3dcard + all ur hardware life shorter due to more heat...

when u got 2d/3d mode.... it will automatically detect.... it will run 2d mode when u not using so much of it, example desktop and will automatically switch to 3dmode when u open 3dgames.....

but if u insist wanna change to 3dclockspeed 24/7 ... then u can with rivatuner software and overclock ur 2dmode same as ur 3dmode clockspeed, save it and "apply the setting when window start"

yup, can.. u just have to download the gigabyte gamer hud from the website and disable the separate 2d/3d clockspeed mode, or u can just mod and reflash the cards bios so that 2d and 3d clockspeed is the same..

dunno what the fuss is all about. Even my previous XFX 6600GT and integrated X1250 clocks down when in 2d mode. Its normal and helpful to prevent waste of energy as the processing power in 2d is less than in 3d.

2D mode includes watching movies, tv card, word processing, browsing, etc. Why would u want to have full 3d clocks with that?

heres my thread abt 8800gt prices and availability, hope it helps :

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/596606

Personally, as im such a cheap guy, I recommend Gigabyte 8800GT Turboforce due to various factors :

1. Price : One of the cheapest pre-overclocked 8800GT around at RM844@viewnet or ard RM850 anyplace else.

2. High pre-overclock : Core 700/Stream 1700/ Memory 1900. Loses out to Asus TOP and Zotac AMP on memory clocks (2000). However both zotac amp and asus top are more than rm900.

3. Cooler : Earlier version of Turboforce uses Zalman VF700AlCu while newer ones uses another Zalman cooler which looks like this

hey guys..

I wonder any of you guys reapplied the 8800GT's thermal paste before BUT using back the stock heatsink (not 3rd party cooler).

Any of you guys did it before? I might want to reapply those thermal compound hoping to get "better" temperature. smile.gif

yup, the software is named "gamer hud" and it's not bundled, u have to download urself @ the gigabyte's website..
i am using it, and the max vcore that the software gives is 1.2v sweat.gif i want MORE... SP cannot go pass 1.9ghz on 1.2v tongue.gif
that's why my SP is stuck at 1.89ghz sweat.gif
