For laser printer , it's waterproof , faster printing but not sure about the quality of printing though.

One more , Laser printer cost alot more too.

Cost a lot more doesn't mean it is not worth it. Comparing cost per page, laser printer actually save more than inkjet

For inkjet, some brand do offer waterproof as their ink are using pigment ink

Just get inkjets that print in full pigment ink (Epson printers come to mind, but I have been using the HP Photosmart B9180 in office) and when the original inks are printed on original media, they are waterproof in the sense that you can splash water on them, and have the water sits on them for a few minutes, and the inks will not run off. Of course, don't go and soak your photos lar...
The reason why this works is twofold: inks have been formulated to be more water resistant over the years, and photo media have special polymer layers and/or porous structures that help trap the ink.
For photo inkjet printers (those marketed specifically as for photo printing; not just 'able' to print photos - there's a difference), their ink sets will be tested for fastness, which is ability to resist fade through light, age, and chemical interaction which is voluntary but plays to the marketing strategy. "Our photo printouts can last >100 years!". Visit: http://www.wilhelm-research.com/

...so about ink economy, pigment-based inkjets tend to be less econominal than dye-based ones. So when you design an ink that is good at being permanent, you end up with something that also easily dries and clogs up the nozzles. So to prevent that, those inkjets will have to purge out the 'stale' and dried ink away to reduce the number of blocked nozzles and this will be in expense of remaining ink supply. To minimise this, just use your ink jet more frequently (a page or two every day?) so that the nozzles are constantly refreshed and stale ink has no chance of fouling them and lead to the printer going through more ink-wasting printhead cleaning operations.

Detail wise, photo printouts from my office Photosmart is indistinguishable from traditional lab developments, and best of all, you can play with funky media like canvas or other textured media for artistic effects as it is able to take in thick papers. Not all photo printers can print beyond the usual matte or glossy photo paper.

I don't know of any colour laser printer that is able to give photo lab quality output comparable to photo inkjets or even the mini dye-sub portable 4R/5R photo printers.

colour laser can't produce the many different shades of colors offered by inkjets.

for text & chart printing, laser is very good.

Photo printing at the shop is a lot better I think. (This is my personal opinion).... I bought epson (2 years ago) with 5 ink catridges and no doubt the printing quality is nice. It is waterproof and said to last more than 85 years. However, I need to finish the ink quickly or otherwise it will evaporate and finish within weeks even if I do not use it.

Then, the ink itself is not cheap. For a complete set, I have to fork out >RM120 but can only print few A4 photos. Not to mention I have to get good photo paper. Then, somehow, through user error, I managed to mess up a few prints which is very wasteful and frustrating. If I were to print 8x11 inch at photo lab, it will cost me only RM10 a piece.

So, I stop home printing 1.5 years ago and through trial and error found one photo lab that print according to my taste and keep sending my photo for prints at the shop.

I have samsung CLP 300 color laser. I bought it 1 year ago. It is ok if you intend to use it for school project but completely useless for printing photo. The printout is really really bad for photo.

That's why I didn't buy it during this past PC Fair.

The color's over-saturated.

Couldn't produce a satisfying level of shades.

For charts, it's ok. For photo, a no no.

I only trust HP for color laserjet photo printing. Quality is okay and acceptable but not as good as inkjet. If you can manage your monitor color like spyder, inkjet printout is better far better compare to laserjet. My friend try this at his office. The only drawback for inkjet is their running cost is higher if you print in large volume. And time consuming too...

If you don't really care about quality, then print on laserjet but make sure buy a good color laserjet (HP). Not that under 1K color laserjet printer. For a good A3 photo printing (which you only print once every month), use inkjet. A3 color laserjet cost you a bomb!

For 4R or A6 printing... And yoy don't really care about quality or color... Go print at your nearest photo printing shop. I can get less than Rm29 at BTS for 100pcs. Maybe i must spend more than Rm100 for inkjet alone if i print it on inkjet print. Ohh forgot... must add the paper too... sweat.gif

I've used bubble jet to print my pictures, the quality is satisfying to me, but I can only get a few prints before the ink runs out.... =.=

if u wan budget, buy any inkjet printer (CMYK ink suits)

canon & epson oso can get..budget around rm340-rm470

but if u use it for less money but more printout,
go for hp k550 + ink tank system.

kering like laser printer, cuma its only inkjet printer.
very suits for printing pics n photos.

if got extra budget n making money wit it,
use laser printer color. lowyat now
fuji xerox a525 CL - rm999 (old model but heavy duty)

Thermal heatsink? That's new to me...
I have the K550 and I can tell you it's optimised for speedy office document prints...
But photowise, it's not suitable: can be too grainy, and it cannot do borderless prints.

For HP printers, get Photosmarts if you want good photo printouts.

No, I really don't recommend it as a photo printer...
I have it in my home and office and it's a superb office printer, but photo output is just not there yet.

Of course, you can say it's also because I'm spoiled by having access to a Photosmart B9180 at office.
Have you printed on canvas before? brows.gif

sometimes i wonder, why dun sent to photolab for photo printing?

photolab printing quality beats inkjet anytime, provided the printer( person who prints the photo ) knows what is he doing.

if not satify, just ask them to reprint until you're satisfy ( in terms of color and such )

if u say you're the artistic type and needed it to be printed according to your taste bla bla bla, sent to a pro lab. problem solved.

High-end A3 sized photo printers can do that, and they are relatively uncommon. Quite expensive, usually RM2k or more (same price as DSLR!).
Canvas and other artistic media (usually textured) are usually used by those 'fine arts' digital artists or photographers. I am neither but it's fun to create prints from them. Good ones are not cheap, and even in my office, there's a very limited supply of them. Only photo glossy media berlambak.

Wow, I want to know which photolab you go to that's so customer-satisfaction oriented.
