Guys.. nowdays we often see camera offering very high mega pixels.. 12MP, 10MP and so on.. but izzit necessary to have such high mega pixels? Because the higher the MP the bigger the picture.. dont u all need to resize it to a smaller size later on? So whats the use of it?

Bigger picture means better bigger prints. It's that simple laugh.gif

and of course the amount of details that the camera can take in also increases. happy.gif

wah, u are here oledi  laugh.gif
he is right, higher pixels means u captured more details (details here can be information u want or noise!) and enable u for more cropping opportunity.

BUT, higher pixel on small sensor means u get noise. Let's imagine we both have a land with same area and u build a lot of buildings made it so cramped, while i only build few houses or building made it much spacious.

For sensor in PnS, like 1/1.8" size (as in F31fd), maximum MP for minimum noise is 6MP. Now i wonder how those PnS/prosumer with 1/2.5" size sensor can fit in 10MP  laugh.gif

It's not the amount of MP you have, it's the pixel pitch that counts if quality is concerned.

As a rule of thumb, higher MP means you can print bigger photos but not necessarily better quality. Sharpness do not depend on MP, it's lens dependent.

Having more MP also means that you have more freedom of cropping should you only print 4R size.

FYI, a PnS with 12MP will never outperform a dSLR with even as low as 5MP.

Yea i know.... no matter how expensive a PnS is it cant out perform a dSLR.. dSLR win hands down in many areas.

Like ur avatar? drool.gif laugh.gif

Thanks a lot on the inputs. Coz all the time im confuse.. coz the MP of every cam is increasing time by time but i found no good reason to upgrade a cam if mine is like 5mp coz i will still resize the picture. smile.gif
