Hie, I just bought a PSP slim for my kid. Bought it from one of the shop featured in the forum, which have all the nice reviews from his purchasers. In the package is a 4 Gig memory card. After 2 weeks, the memory card already become gila gila and suddenly the psp cannot read the card and shows the need to format sign. But when I tried to format, it failed. When connected to pc, the card also cannot be read. When I tried to format it using ther PC, it shows that the size of the card is 1.9Gig. How come? Am I being ripped of? Appreciate it all the helps that I can get.

oops..maybe.
since it is only 2 weeks.just go to the shop and claim for new one.
and for the ripoff part,dont worry..most shops (can be said as all unless u are willing to pay lot more) are giving fake mspd.it just maybe u got unlucky got corrupted early.
u know why they gave fake mspd, because of the price of the original..

try format it again with under FAT instead of fat32, but since its new..i suggest u just return it to him

I had a similar experience. I tested the card on the day I received it and found that it was one of those "fake capacity" cards. So I contacted the seller and demanded he exchange it. He was kind enough to comply.

But if in your case, you find that your seller doesn't want to swap it for you I advise you start a dispute thread against him. Selling fake MSPD in LYN is a big offense, because Sony Malaysia monitors this site often for the trafficking of imitation MSPDs.

wow..no wonder last few days ago a shop at penang got raid by kpdnhep.and what suprised me is they only go for accessories for PSP and PS2 (controller,pouch,tv cable,memory card and many more)

yup.... me too using fake mspd 4 gb. so far no probs ... hope no probs at all lah. i'm saving money to buy the original 8 gb (when i have enogh saving, or the price just drop nicely to my current savings ... lol)

as for your mspd .. i hope the shop better change to new one ...

seen some of the disputes thread in the forum. I don't think want to masuk pasir dalam periuk dis guy since so many people say many good things about him. will try to see and talk to him first. BTW read somewhere that windows read the sony card differently from sony. that's why the difference in the size. is it true?

did try to format using pc FAT 32 but got message cannot complete the format. will see the seller first, if no alternative, will try format as fat. T guys. Now if only someone can clarify to me about the windows and sony read differently.....

From my experience of using fake and original MSPD and using the PSP since it first came out...

To my knowledge there is no such thing as window and sony read the card differently. the card uses an open standard for reading and writing...which means they read and write using the same standard whether it is a slot in sony's laptop or a slot in a hp laptop of in sony's camera or in sony's psp.

The thing is using fake MSPD has it disadvantages...and that it mak bor within the same hour or it may even last for more that 2 years (as in my case)...

so the best thing is to go back to the shop owner and try to get an exchange...and next time buy and original MSPD 4Gb will only cost 200++ last time I bought a few months back it's RM275..but I will have a peace of mind that my 100+ hours that I've spent playing FFT will not be for nought...

then hopefully they'll know how annoyed I am that a PSP i got from their outlet has a defective LCD and that it has been one week, still not repaired...

oh i forget to tell la..u can also format it using ur psp 1st, then format again using ur pc

since you said you bought from 1 of the seller in this forum with many good reviews... then you should call the seller and gets a replacement. i am sure the seller with exchange it for you without any questions.

just for your info only, using fake mspd is all depends on luck! even though if you can get a replacement... same thing might happen again in future who knows maybe after 3.5 months of usage. it just pure luck lah some really lucky like our bro lapaq already 2 years still working, some really unlucky after 1 month, it kaput and like you only 2 weeks of usage and kaput.

so think carefully now... what will you do if your new replacement mspd kaput again after 3.5months later? this time i am sure any shops also wont give you a replacement. my advice to you, since you are calling the seller why not topup and get a real original 4gb mspd instead...

I think u better ask the seller replace 1 new for you, otherwise just top up some $$ to get the original one ..this is the best solution for you !

fake mspd can really tahan for few years and also can be kaput in few days... i used 2 of it and both until today ok... touch wood..

u bought it at a shop with good reputation here so call him and ask replacement.... if u dont dare to gamble... then top up get ori... if u still want to use fake... then be prepared to face the same problem again...

btw... FYI.. most shop offer psp with mspd will dump in fake mspd.... so its expected t be like this...

ya..fake mspd...bad experience on me...then say no to fake mspd anymore..i would rather pay a little bit more to get original mspd...faster transfer speed..not much problem(or even considered as problem free)

i believe most of those camera or psp bundle with extra memory card which is not given with the ori package, they offer it for free becoz the cost is veli low compare to ori, u can try to claim from the seller first b4 write something bad about him unless he refuse for the exchange with the new one.

i bought as afew memory cards, some fake, some original, i would say go for original if you want your "stable" gaming, fake memory will be hang once in a while (not too often, but about 2% rate, i think).

one way to determine fake or real is to check using your psp, select video, press triangle button, select information, check under MagicGate, iif it's real, you will see "Supported". if it's fake, it will show "unknown".

aiyo...no need to see until like that la....just look behind ur mspd..where the code has an extra letter 'T' means fake

What's the price for original MSPD Sony 4GB, other brand 4GB, and imitation 4GB? The other brands one work as well as Sony's or not?

as far as i know, this "T" is not accurate for fake memory card about 1 year to 2 year ago.

SANDISK is better imo...cheaper than Sony

thanks guys for all the input. Went to see the seller and told him the probs. he exchanged without questions. He lives up to his reps. Unfortunately, went to see hin b4 seeing all myopur input. If not, i might have follow some of your advices and top up extra to get the ori. will see him again and see whether i can still do that. if not will get another ori for my kid.

Anyway, thanks again for the input. Guess have nothing else to say about this matters. Closed case, I guess..
