Well as for OSX , keep encryption on. So that the Data stays safe. Just password protect it. Secondly , enable Password on EFI boot (not too sure bout EFI but they have this feature in OpenFirmware). This way you KNOW that nobody , I mean nobody could sell your MacBook and its data. Even if he replace the HDD .Its locked !
