just wonder if anyone ever took diploma or degree in photography? (sorry for such poor way to grade a certified level of photography)

what are the courses like? what do you actually learn?

n my main question is: is china a good place to study photography? cuz i've going there to study chinese soon n was thinking of extending my stay there by taking up some course... well, photography is my 1st choice... but i have no idea what i'll learn, do or whatever...

if u guys wanna suggest me to go some other country like australia, i love to go there but too costly... or just remain in malaysia also can learn the same thing, i wanna explore some place and china seems to be an ideal (or cheapest >.<) place so far...

so far thats all the question that i can think of... might pop out more later...

im doing my diploma for photography in SEGi College, once u graduated there with good results u can take a degree course in aus.

things you learn in photography course is mostly what you'll be learning without guidance. You get what i mean? U go to the course, you learn things through a lecturer, then u do assignments, graduated u get the qualification aka the paper, but that doesnt make you a photographer yet.

In a photography course you'll be learning the basics from the start. Like White balance understanding, Depth of view, depth of focus, panning, bla bla bla, really the basics, i didnt go through my the 1st sem, but i skipped straight to the 2nd sem where i learn

black and white photography
developing films
studio and lighting
history of photography
advertising principles
moral(its a lan subject)

now i've finished my 3rd sem, i learned

studio and lighting 2
large format camera
colour photography
digital imaging
videography

There's more like photo journalism and experimental photography. That's in the future. You see going through course is just a different way to learn photography, its almost everything you'll learn if u shoot everyday and do experiments upon experiments. The plus side is you get someone to teach you the basics, you get someone to judge you, you get someone to push u harder.

In the end you'll have the qualification aka, the papers(diploma and stuffs). You can get jobs easier(of course you must have a really strong port folio) to support and show that you are qualified.

okay im giving a really really long speech, but i hoped that it gives u some idea on studying photography.

it helped a lot, im so noobish enough to think that photography only teaches u how to snap... or learn to use the function in it... or adjust the function that matches the situation... not knowing taking a picture is just the begining of every picture... it sure leads to lots of work in the end.

anyway, im more into it right now...

i'll make sure to do more research about photography schools in china b4 i step into 1... and graduate without regrets... =)

its good that you know what u want to learn. Its alot of work, but for every experiment and effort you go through in your course, you'll feel damn satisfied in the end.

okay, ill give u the lo-down on fees in SEGi College. for 30k you'll be taking a 2 and a half years of course. If you're a bumi you'll get 50% discount. You'll be taking some LAN subjects(moral, bahasa malaysia) but at the same time you'll take some different subjects like videography. And videography is fun

I didn't take photography course, but my degree did cover videography (film & tv production was part of my mass comm). Things which I apply from videography to my own photography learning were stuffs like:
- exposure & focus
- small lighting setup
- colour
- composition and framing
- subject matter

photography course is more important or photoshop course more important? or both is cover under the same diploma course..

Is 30k including the cost to buy camera , lens and etc?

Besides that, we need buy how many types of camera to study this course?

sadly no, camera u muz supply yourself.

only a DSLR is sufficient enough. DOnt have to get multiple bodies, and about lens, its all up to you.

Added on December 12, 2007, 4:36 pmif u want to learn photography, wait for the edu fair. Mostly colleges that goes there does offer photography course. If u want SEGi's course aint bad too, its all up to you. Choose nicely. Any SEGi college subang and Kota Damansara does provide photography course. 2 and a Half years, there's another college that offers the same too but i cant remember the name =P its a three and a half years though.

IMO both are important, its all up in your mind set, if u dont like to edit your photos then i think the course is not for you as the lecs want you to edit your photos to get the mood right. Though they might not force you to learn editing but they will keep pastering ya about it

it depends, really it does. I don think you're getting the right idea here. I've stated that you go to college to learn the basics and set challenges for yourself. And in the end, you get the paper, sometimes this piece of paper can get you a good paying job(of course a strong portfolio is needed or else no one wants you).

Its not like you finished college, came out with a diploma, went to Yosemite National Park and shoot some fantastic landscape and wholla, you're well known. It never was like that. I think its about the publicity and the effort that you put in publishing your name that counts and so on made you "well known".

The bottom line is, you wanna learn photography, do it your way, learn from others, or learn by yourself. I learned by myself before I started going to classes, the sole purpose for me going to classes is just to broaden my views and in the end, get the papers.
