Whoa!
Didnt know that there is so many people who likes Shyamalan's movies. Most of friend dont and most of them said that the show is boring and the "surprise" element aint as surprising enough as it would be in the Sixth Sense. For me, i personally love most of his movies, namely Unbreakable, Sixth Sense, Signs. Btw, i got the teaser synopsis from Wikipedia. QUOTE The Happening is a paranoid thriller in which a family must survive a global environmental crisis. The film will portray the earth as a victim of mankind's doings, which causes a global backlash. Elliot Moore, the main character figures out these conflicts, due to his being a high school biology teacher. In the center, lies a conflict between him and his wife, in which he must settle before she threatens to end their marriage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In January 2007, writer-director M. Night Shyamalan traveled from Philadelphia to Hollywood to prepare a live-action film adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. In town, Shyamalan submitted a spec script entitled The Green Effect to various studios, but none expressed enough interest to purchase the script. The director collected ideas and notes from meetings, returning home to Philadelphia to rewrite the script, and 20th Century Fox greenlighted the project. In March 2007, 20th Century Fox greenlighted Shyamalan's project, now titled The Happening. Shyamalan and Barry Mendel will produce the film, which will be the director's first R-rated project. Later in March, actor Mark Wahlberg, with whom Shyamalan had been negotiating at the same time as his deal with Fox, was cast into the lead role of the $57 million project. The India-based company UTV will co-finance 50% of the film's budget and distribute the film in India, with Fox distributing in the rest of the territories. Production began in August in Philadelphia. Filming locations in the Philadelphia area include Rittenhouse Square, 30th Street Station, and the G Lodge restaurant in Phoenixville. The release date for The Happening is set for June 13, 2008, intentionally set for Friday the 13th to suit the thriller. |

Why does everyone think the village is a flop? I like it. It's as good as the sixth sense and invincible. "The signs" is a flop. |

"The signs" is a flop. I thought "Signs" was a very good movie. Yes, the aliens were quite wimpy (come on, spraying gases from the wrists?) but I never thought that the erratic habit of the little girl by leaving glasses of water everywhere could eventually turn into their best weapon. The portrayal of despair and fear by Mel Gibson was much better dealt compared to Tom Cruise in the War of the Worlds. "Unbreakable" is another underrated gem. |

Dont know if tree is involved in it but everyone is saying that the trees are murdering all the poeple.
However, from the trailer, it looks more like an epidemic disease. Then what the hell are they running from? Some kind of monsters?! Whatever it is, you can bet on the element of surprise |

The Village is a crap movie? I LOVE that movie. I just dont get the 'felt cheated' complaint regarding the movie.
The keyword for that movie is 'cheating'. The elders wants to escape the real 'bad' world so they create a world of their own, therefore, cheating the young ones to stay in the village and away from the real world. If u say, Lady In the Water as a crap movie, I'm half-agree on that. Heh. Ok maybe its just me since I'm a diehard fan of M. Night Shyamalan. I think he's one of the most brilliant directors out there. Some ppl might not like his style because u need to flex ur brain muscle to watch his movies. LOL. |

hmm everyone only praises The Sixth Sense. or bashes Signs. but no one seems to mention Unbreakable.
Unbreakable was far more awesome than The Sixth Sense IMO. my fave scene in that movie was at the train station whr Bruce Willis holds out his arms n sensed wat's goin on with everyone who brushes against his hands. and the unveiling of Samuel L Jackson as the villain n even has an alias -Mr. Glass- that was pure win. |

QUOTE(EightPhantomz @ May 28 2008, 11:11 AM) The Village is a crap movie? I LOVE that movie. I just dont get the 'felt cheated' complaint regarding the movie. Imho The Village could've been much much more better if the twist are shown at the final 15-10 minutes. The suspense pace are building up and immediately shattered when he reveals it all to us at the last 45 minutes which is way too early. Unbreakable is good and so as Lady in the Water has the ico (ps2 game) feel. The keyword for that movie is 'cheating'. Alrite, agree to that!
Unbreakable is good but not great, IMHO. The 'breaking' point for M. Night was Sixth Sense. Like it or not. Some of his so-called so-and-so movies like Signs, Lady In the Water etc got their low-points but still, u can see the 'magic touches' by M.Night like the way he connects the unseen signs from the past to the night when the alien came out in Signs. And, the way the characters trying to unveil the chosen ppl based on the prophecy in Lady In the Water - I like the kid who can read 'sumthing' by looking at the cereal boxes. Hmm might watch these movies again while waiting for 13th June D-Day. heh. This post has been edited by EightPhantomz: May 28 2008, 01:12 PM |

good stuff, a decent little sci-fi flick. not your typical popcorn movie...focused on story-telling, dialogues, acting, characters...
better than Lady in the Water...my rating, 3.5/5 |

This is probably a gamble of sort for Shyamalan. After Lady in the Water, i think everyone expect him to orbit a little lower to earth.
I do enjoy the Happening but this is not his best work nor anywhere near his best. Just an average Shyamalan (if i compare to 6th Sense and the Sign). The ending takes a lot for someone to just accept it. I think everyone must be expecting some twist or some kinda explanation but what was offer does a take huge dose of belief...!!! After Lady, I do expect Shyamalan to come back stronger. I don't see The Happening as boring or plain stupid but its just an average movie recycling The Sign's plot but a new adversary. I do enjoy watching Shyamalan play out the human drama and his dose of odd comedy. |

This film was on my "2008 Must Watch List"...
then... came the poorest of poorest reception... even Mark Wahlberg isn't too delighted... I'd rather go watch Hulk. Wait, I just did, over this film. |

this movie is good for the thrilling type of storyline. If you look for actionpack, don't bother. It is more on storyline, and observing how different type of people handle in situation like this. I found it abit similar like 'the mist' or 'cloverfield', minus the monsters part. And the ending really quite a twist for me.
Give it 4.5 out 10, for the storyline. Sadly it's dull movie abit. |

well went to watch this film with very low expectation, overall i pretty much enjoyed it, the part where
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « i wished that John Leguizamo's character has more screen time, kinda funny seeing him in a serious role but he nails it!,if the movie had a better ending i would have give it an 8/10...but sadly... oh yea Mark Wahlberg's character was very convincing too... |

M.Night Shyamalan is Genius.
His idea is marvelous. The message the movie trying to pass to us is, human not very care about the nature until some day the plant also feel threat from the human being. That is why the plant is releasing some kind of chemical in the air to kill human. |

at first, i thought it would be another movie like sixth sense, but after knowing that the 'baddie' here is some kind of chemical.. kinda pull back, even though mark wahlberg is in it.

And the old woman in the last scene represent nature, where she always felt threatened by Elliot. She said Elliot is trying to kill her. Elliot try to steal something from her. Anyway, this is my conslusion. |

M Night Shyamalan has lost his Midas Touch.
After "Lady In The Water", he should seriously rethink about making more thriller/horror/scary movies... The trailer is already so cheesy... Believe it or not, its rated even worse than "Lady In The Water". Extremely dissapointed and frustrated... expected it to be at least better... "Lady In The Water" felt like a fairly big budget high-school amateur film makers made by a bunch of teen movie fanatics. This is another "move along, nothing interesting here" films of 2008. Unless you have absolutely nothing to do at home, very very bored and even a turkish film will make you happy - this one will work for you. I saw DEAD PEOPLE!
DEAD PEOPLE - People who can't connect to the Movie . Everybody in here thought this movie was about Mother Nature, Global Warming, Chemical Release from trees..Bla ! Bla!.. Mr M night Shakermalayan was right about DEAD PEOPLE wandering around this Earth. The Happening has something to do with something we can't control, X-files type , something Phenomenal etc... It attack the Foreign Country in the end.. You guys still believe of the Global Warming like those people believe.. I can see how low People IQ is now. the attack was done on Calculus and something extraordinary with the wind manage to break the patterns and control the situation until it dissapears when ZERO is attained...look beyond the movie. Don't listen to the absurd Scientist who thought that chemical of plant etc... This post has been edited by hackwire: Jun 17 2008, 11:20 PM |

QUOTE(EightPhantomz @ May 28 2008, 11:11 AM) The Village is a crap movie? I LOVE that movie. I just dont get the 'felt cheated' complaint regarding the movie. No the Village was bad in so many levels. Bad lazy writing where Shymalan just cheated the shit out of us with a stupid twist and we had to tolerate seeing his piss poor cameo. Do it subtly - not everyone wants to see you. LOL. |

All the way till the end... feel like a very slow movie... as in human pace... no suspense or anything at all... just normal going...
Just have to agreed on his brilliant idea of the story... anyway is what shown in the movie possible ? a theory or just a tot up story ? |

i personally love this movie. i think the reason why Night suffers in hollywood is because his movies are not hollywood-ish anymore.
i think he should get out from there and start making a more indie type of movie. and i love the fact that the happening do not have much CGI, unlike lady in the water... that's the movie that was totally crap from him. sometimes, the real deal could be a real let down. maybe we as a movie goers expect something extraordinary happening in the movie, as a form of escape from reality. Night's movie is the other way round. like in the village and happening. |

Personally.... I think this is a smaller-scale version of The Wars of the World.
No twist (unless you call "that" a twist). No cameo from him (except his voice) The relationship between the guy and his wife.... a joke. No feeling at all. The relationship between his wife and the daughter.... another joke. The guy's wife is a bad choice of casting. Terrible... to my opinion. Also, this time, Night tries hard to be preachy. Too bad. Wish I have not bought the movie ticket. |
