Had second thoughts about opening this thread. But anyways.. You are most welcomed to refer me to another site, thread, etc. just help me out

First of all, I am new to the Xbox 360 gaming scene.

Second of all, I have not received my Xbox 360 Elite from Gamers Hideout. It seems they called me when they had stock but I didn't pickup the phone, hence they put me on the next waiting list batch; due in January 08. sad.gif

Third of all, I am looking for an LCD display for my Xbox 360. I have a Dell 19" display that supports upto 1280x1024. Non-widescreen. The problem is, I want something that supports upto 1920x1080.

I have the Dell 2707WFP on my mind... RM2,999 sad.gif . But that's fine, if I can pay my dad instalment every 12 months since I'm buying the console with my hard-earned student money.
http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/c...dhs1&l=en&s=dhs

Fourth of all, what does this mean?
Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP, S-Video, Composite, Component, Integrated 9-in-2 media card reader/slots, Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 Ports, Kensington security port.
Does it have HDMI (for use with the Xbox 360 Elite) ?

Or any other LCD display that you could recommend me? Budget, well, err...just let me know what you think I should get.
Or just stick with my 19" display?

Help me out while I still have time.

RM6,900 huh... hmm... hmm.gif
Definitely not for me.

Perhaps RM3,200 and below... so the typical PC LCD displays should do the trick

2999 guess if I'm u.. i got 32" LCD 720p

btw y u wanan get 1020p?

IMO u shd save up just use ur current LCD
*
Why I want to get 1020p ? It's 1080p (1920x1080 resolution). Games like... (checks)... err... Halo 3 and Pro Street support 1080p. What a waste to play it on 1280x720 resolution (720p)...

*
Really? Do you know any sort of price I am to expect? RM2800 perhaps? On the Dell website, they're having a PC Fair promotion until 10 December on the 27" display.

I heard going HDMI to DVI (digital to digital) gives no loss of quality.
But HDMI to VGA (digital to analog) will result in loss of quality. Not noticeable, but yeah, it exists to the sharp eyes.

correct me if I'm wrong

not much game goes up to 1080p..

and halo 3 not 1080p smile.gif

seriously i prefer bigger LCD TV hmmm 32"? and some good speakers smile.gif

but it's ur moo man...
*
Noticed you just edited smile.gif . Anyway, behind the box of my "un-opened" and "purchased just hours ago" Halo 3 and NFS Pro Street, it states 480p, 720p and 1080p.
That's 640x480, 1280x720 and (the one I want) 1920x1080 resolutions.

If no games support 1080p, why would the Xbox 360 Elite support 1080p? I am not too sure, its on the game box though...

*
Dell E248WFP 24" Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor

Just checked. It does support 1920x1200, that supports 1080p. But its non-UltraSharp... I know what it is like to have no UltraSharp...

Interface is Analog, DVI-D (Digital) with HDCP

And yeah its RM1,259. Fits the bill. If I do get this, I might be able to squeeze in GTA4 next year...

I own a Dell PC, one with ultrasharp, another without (now using for my dad's PC). The difference in color production, sharpness and contrast is quite big. If I were to get a Dell display for my Xbox 360, it would definitely be UltraSharp... if its Dell..

What is the maximum reso of your display?

Checkout this dude... 2407 WFP (not 2707 WFP)

im using the entry 20", 1680x1050, used to play my 360 on it. i know got difference, i've seen them side by side (most obvious is the black level)... i buy alot of dell LCDs for the engineering dept (CAD) in where i used to work... many people would disagree with me on this: i can neglect the differences between ultra-sharp & non-u.sharp coz the difference is like rm1000, which i would rather spend on something else if im on a tight budget
*
1680x1050... hmm... hmm.gif I really really want 1920x1080... Guess the 24" Dell is the lowest I can get that supports that resolution.

Yeah, the difference is nearly RM1k but I think its worth it when you're a gamer. But it isn't worth it when you're on a budget, good point. But its fine as long as its below RM3k...

Well, if you can stretch your budget just a bit, Benq has been selling 24" LCD monitors that are 1080P ready for a while now. They always rotate their model, so prices will vary. I bought my Benq FP241VW from Lowyat for RM2198 not too long ago. Still within your budget at least. I think Viewnet is still selling this same model. Look up the specs here :

http://benq.com/products/LCD/?product=997&page=features
*
That's amazing, 24" at RM2198... (if I add RM800 more, its 27" Dell). You think its worth it?

Nay... i've seen the difference between HDTV and LCD display. I really prefer LCD display especially those for PC.

*Edit : Dell is having PC Fair promotion on the 27", less RM1,100... meaning normal price around RM3,800 (now RM2,999). What do you think? Offer ends 10 December 2007... oh oh

dude, been pouring over reviews of the 24" BenQ and 27" Dell, the downside to the BenQ is that it lacks connection while the Dell is due to price...

And guess what, 10/12/2007 is when the offer ends and only tomorrow Saturday is Dell open...

can u guys recommend me then full 1080p HDTV that cost less than RM3k ??

if not i'm getting the 1920x1200 reso Dell 27"

ps : i thought Dell had 30" too ?

What kind of connection do you mean? The Benq is quite versatile, as it has pretty much all types of video connection: composite, component, S-Video, D-sub, DVI, and HDMI. In fact, it is actually the 27" that's lacking: no HDMI input.
*
oh...got mixed up there, its so late at night... its the Dell that lacks HDMI connection.

the review at http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/11/07/Benq_FP241W/1
and http://www.trustedreviews.com/displays/rev...reen-Monitor/p1

give the BenQ display the best possible scores.

now it comes down to this (since both BenQ and Dell support 1080p)...

24 inch VS 27 inch...
does it make a world of difference in gaming? I dun want to get the display and then say to myself "damn, I should have gotten the other..." u know wat I mean

*Edit : I seriously got my eyes on the 2707WFP vs. BenQ FP241W... the RM1,100 price reduction for the Dell is irresistable (saw it a few days ago and it was well above RM3k)

after much discussion with my parents and me and on HDTV, LCD display and "why-dont-you-just-used-your-old-display"... I finally have ordered it.
27" Dell 2707WFP 1920x1200 display. sweat.gif

The guys at Gamers Hideout themselves said to me, I can get even a 32" HDTV lesser price than the Dell display. But I stressed them that full HD capable HDTVs are much more expensive than the Dell display. And they agreed. The thing is they said, the Dell display does not have HDMI and its 27".

My point is, this is what I want : Full HD at 27"

This is what "most of you are recommending me" : Non Full HD HDTVs at 32" or larger [which I do understand is much cheaper compared last time]

This is the problem : Full HD HDTVs are "still relatively expensive", they're like what RM3,500 + ??

This is what I think the solution is : Even though 27" vs 32" is like 5 huge freakin inches of difference, I get full HD at a

With price in mind (and quality fortunately in my case), the Dell fits me perfectly. I was told the upcoming 30" Dell 2560x1600 (with HDMI) would cost me around RM4,500 to RM5,000+. That's ridiculous.
The fact that I "do have" full HD and its large at 27" AND it fits the bill at RM2,999, it would be my pick.

Keep those feedback coming, I am told my order can still be "put on hold" on Monday.

Help. rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif
ps : I have never seen a HDTV, never compared LCD vs. HDTV, but I know 100% how it feels to have 1920x1080 resolution on a LCD PC display.

Ok since you've settled with a non HDMI LCD , why would you still opting for the elite . If the budget does constraint , I don't really see a point in it .

IIRC , most games are upscaled only and Halo3 native is at 640p . IMO full HD is a joke at smaller display . unsure.gif

P/s : The Dell LCD if used on PC sure helluva awesome though .  tongue.gif
*
I was planning on using my 19" LCD for my older PC while the 27" for the Xbox 360 AND Windows Vista. I was told I could like "switch" between the two of them??

The reason I'm going for the Elite is for the 120Gb hard drive and the less chance of getting 3ROD. And on top of that, for future purposes...

Does DVI really make a difference to HDMI ?

Xbox 360, don't need to PM me about this. We can talk about it here. It's not like you're confessing your feelings to me so don't be shy.
Fanboy-ism? Of what??! I am so freakin new here, there nothing to be a fan of... The only reason I ordered so fast is because the offer ends Monday. Have some pity on me, I am new here... sweat.gif

Oh not to worry, my order can be "put on hold" on Monday. Furthermore processing will take longer coz' Tuesday not everyone is working.
Anyways, what if in the future, there are 1080p (full HD) capable games?
Another question, what is the price range of a full HD 1080p HDTV ?

To your first question:

Did you even read my previous posts? Click on the links and read.

There are already 1080p games. But they're only a small handful and most of the major titles are still doing their upscaling trick.

Most native 1080p games now are usually games that don't tax the CPU/GPU of the 360 much, so developers can afford to up the reso to 1920x1080.

Developers like Bungie give some dingdong excuse that they want gamers to have a more 'realistic blabla yadayada experience' so  they have to lower to 640p and give more bling effects. But the brutal truth is Halo 3 would be crawling on your screen if they gave it native 1080p.

Your only chance of the next uber game with fancy effects, crazy lighting and graphical coolness to have native 1080p is when developers/programmers suddenly learned how to code better or that the Xbox 360 got a CPU/GPU upgrade.

So stop counting pixels and be a goddamn gamer and start playing.

To your second question:

I assume you're trying to be sarcastic and trying to show me that 1080p HDTVs are Rm5k++ and that you're getting a God-given deal with your precious Dell 2707 at a mere 2999.

Again, read - my - posts

I showed you 2 options: one if you're still adamant about 1920x1200, and one if you're willing to go for more screen space.

The 2407 is a damn fine monitor, and thus paying RM700 for another 3 inches is just not worth it.

and when you compare the equally good BenQ 24" which you save a whopping RM1240, it's just borderline stupid.
Pity your parents little boy. Help them save some money for themselves and give up the damn 3 inches.
*
Whoa... totally didn't expect that but thanks anyway.

Alright, let's put the sarcasm and 1080p rants of mine AWAY for good.

I am really confused, frustrated and worse still, hope my money hadn't gone to waste and that is why I am here.

(as for the Dell, like I said, I can put it on HOLD on Monday...) nod.gif

So here's the deal - - -

1. What is the price range of a full HD 1080p TV ?
2. What can I get for less than RM3k on a full HD 1080p TV ? [meaning: resolution and clarity]
3. What can I get for less than RM3k on a non full HD 1080p TV ? [meaning: resolution and clarity]
4. What would be the viewing area of answer No.2 or No. 3 if available at that price range ?

I ask sincerely. notworthy.gif No offence mate, but I was seating on the edge of my seat when I hit that order button.

Right on... I'll call Dell on Monday, tell them to halt the order. Even though they have the offer, you guys are damn right on...

from rm2,299 -->
RM700 more for a mere 3 inches larger? (24" to 27" Dell)
RM1240 more and I can get BenQ 24" with HDMI ?
at around RM3k, I am better off buying a HDTV that is far larger than 27 " just flipping the newspapers and I came across a few

You guys are right. I will be shopping for LCD TV for my budget range. There are plenty of shops around. Best if I see the TV working in its glory.

It was scarier than I thought when I got there. What my friend told me about the place was that its literally a "hideout". I didn't believe it. It was a indeed hideout. No dude, the focus has shifted from the TV being used "just for my PC and Xbox 360" to "it will be in the living room as the main TV at home". Given the fact that it costs more than RM4k (credit card members, so its actually well over RM5k, MBF members only). Its also full HD (1920x1080), I witnessed the difference there and then between 720p and 1080p. nod.gif

The dude had an Xbox 360 attached to the TV, and I did see some difference. However he said I won't really see much difference if I stood 8 feet away (recommended distance). True enough. Game tested was Call of Duty 3, he told me its a native 1080p game.

I was compelled to get a 720p display, but with the offer and the fact that its 1080p, I definitely got this TV booked down for me.

I have not purchased it yet. Those Dell people are quite stubborn when it comes to cancelling an order.

ps : I welcome more comments (and criticises).
