Hey!
Just got to Malaysia (Penang) on Monday and I'm having the time of my life here. One question tho, are all the movies copies here? I just went to some random dvd store in Bukit Jambul mall and bought a couple of anime dvds. I was like, wt..?, there's 4 different copies of a movie and all with differen covers etc etc. So I just picked the one I liked the most. Most of the cover papers look a bit cheap, like some kid slapped some images together in Photoshop..but they have all these holograms and a zillion stickers saying "Original" in every imaginable language. So I put in the dvd when I get home and the resolution is WORSE THAN ANY DOWNLOADED MOVIE! Is everything like that here? I mean when they have the full dvd to use for one movie, why do they have such a crappy resolution? It's all so pixelated..also with some dvds the subs don't work at all..
Did I just buy a pirate copy? I'm guessing I did..are the only real originals the ones imported from Japan (that naturally never have english subtitles)? And is anything available in 16:9 widescreen and 5.1 Dolby? Everything seems to be 4:3 and 2.0ch, not to mention the sub-VHS resolution!
At least the selection is great around here, but where can I get the quality stuff on Penang?

QUOTE(syazwanreno @ Dec 7 2007, 06:10 PM) the sticker is important Hah hah, the dvds I bought had like two stickers each =D Those hologram things and these logos saying "Original!" "Stop Piracy". Yet the video quality was awful and the menus looked like been slapped together in 5 minutes, just like the covers. Also no FBI Anti-Piracy warnings and that stuff, just goes straight to the root menu. So I guess anything that looks suspicious around here is automatically pira. Anyway I'm not complaining or nothing, just wanna know if everything really is, well..to put it nicely, "unofficial" around these parts =)

Yeah, I learned my lesson =D Been around all the malls, Bukit Jambul, Prangin Mall, that Tesco place etc etc..everything is a copy if I haven't seen the exact same dvd covers back home. Also anything that comes in a SLIM dvd case is always a fake, and also anything that says things like "Episode 1-13 END" is always a copy. Everywhere else in the world, anime comes in 3-5 episodes per disc =D I guess even most of the stuff that's in the expensive looking cardboard covers are copies..
First time I was looking at dvds I was so confused, now I've kinda learned to see what's not real for sure. Like, one of the dumbest things I've seen sold is the "Ghost in the Shell 2 : Innocence" dvd...the funny thing is, on the cover it also says in equally big letters "Stand Alone Complex Movie Solid State Society". However, Solid State Society is an altogether different movie from Innocence, how can it say both names on one disc, stupid lah =D
So one more question, about the Widescreen 16:9 and Dolby 5.1 thing...I guess there's no such niceties with Msian dvds, unless they're really genuine?
