LOL at the title biggrin.gif I remember back during my school days, when the game was almost urban legend-like in its fame. Moves like "aboogit", "sabit boom" and "buddha fire" were constantly spoken of in excited tones! rclxm9.gif

Gee, that picture of Ryu being 'tetsu-maki-senpuu-kyaku'ed by Ken looks like he's hulking up. You know, as in "You're making me angry. You won't like it when I'm angry". Could be just me though.

OK seriously, what the heck is Maliku? The kids back in my school coined all sorts of classic move names like "earthquake", "oliuget" or "nin-nin butt kick", but this is really the first time I've heard of Maliku. I can't even remotely think which character said it! Answers please?

Ever notice how no one mispronounces move names anymore starting from the Street Fighter Zero series? I've never heard of anyone coining their own DIY phrases for any super arts. It's probably because the voice tracks are clearer now. My favourite super art from the SFIII games would be Ken's "shippu jinrai kyaku".

You mean the "rainbow" edition of Street Fighter II? That's the hacked Taiwanese version which was popular in Asia. Among the numerous "upgrades" this version featured:

1. Change characters with the Start button while playing!
2. The charge time for charging moves (like Guile's Sonic Boom) are shortened to 1 second
3. Anti-air attacks have additional perks (ex: Dragon Punch is accompanied by 5 heat-seeking fireballs!)
4. Chun Li's hyakuretsukyaku (lightning kick) accompanied by (again) heat-seeking fireballs!
5. Zangief's spinning lariat goes through the top of the screen, appearing again from under the screen

These perks are great and all, but my favourite upgrade? Vega scales the damn background! Normally, Vega can only scale the fence on his stage. On other stages, he only does the wall jump. But in the "rainbow" version, Vega does his wall scale on the background itself! Probably the greatest trick in the whole Street Fighter universe! rclxm9.gif

That's an ultra combo, not a super combo. The camera closes in on the character when you're performing an ultra combo. Ultra combos can be performed when your revenge meter is full, and you have at least one level on your super combo meter. I think a similar system was first used in King of Fighters (can't remember which version). If you have stored a super combo meter, and your life bar is flashing red (desperation mode), you can unleash a super desperation attack, which can turn the tide of combat real quickly. Street Fighter IV is currently at 50% completion and will be hitting Japanese arcades later this year. Here's hoping our arcades get a couple of units!

GAAAA!! Why the hell did I re-play Street Fighter III!? I thought I was ready to overlook Street Fighter IV's graphics after seeing them in action. But after spending a ridiculous amount of time re-playing SFIII, I remembered how beautiful SFIII looked back in '97. It's still beautiful now, even. Street Fighter IV will need a lot to convince me, especially since King of Fighters XII looks absolutely gorgeous in comparision.

I'm currently on SF fever mode. Playing ungodly hours of SFII and SFIII. In keeping with the Street Fighter mood, let me share the weirdness that is Street Fighter II rainbow edition. Take a look at this screenshot.

Added on March 29, 2008, 11:26 amWhat's that you say? Just a picture of Chun Li doing a SBK on Ryu? Nope. Look at "Chun Li" 's name. See the name there? While fighting Dhalsim on CPU, the CPU decided it needed an extra edge. So it changed into Chun Li and proceeded to kick the snot out of Ryu. No problem. Round 2 then!

Round 2 is underway. Cheating CPU still kicking the snot out of Ryu. Just remembered that Ryu can now throw a Hadouken from the air.

... Lost to the @$?#! CPU again. Re-match! I choose Blanka, what with his fast Hadouken throwing ability. What? Blanka can't do a Hadouken? No way. What's this then?

There's this rainbow edition I played at Awana Genting back in 1993, that I think was tweaked even weirder than usual. Both Ken and Ryu can throw out FIVE hadoukens by doing a single Shoryuken. So, if you have a 2 player match with Ken and Ryu, and both players do a Shoryuken, there will be a total of ten hadoukens on screen. And each hadouken has homing capabilities! You might as well call the game Street Fighter II: Ken and Ryu edition, since no one plays any other characters.

Btw, for CPS1 or CPS2 emulation, I would recommend using Nebula. It's easily the best CPS1/2 emulator out there. For CPS3, you'll have to look for MAME though.

Back in 1991, everytime kids bring up the topic of Street Fighter II, the topic of where the characters originated from will come up. It's not like we had much to draw from. Any backstory or motivations behind every Street Fighter is purely based on each character's ending. All 8 of the world warrior's backstory can be pretty much summed up well, but what about the Grand Masters (that's Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M. Bison).

Balrog fought in a casino, so it made sense if he was from USA. Vega's stage has two flamenco dancers in the background, so it made sense if he was from Spain. Same goes for Sagat. But Bison? Most kids (myself included) were perfectly happy to label Bison as a Thai dictator who somehow is evil. Not sure why though. Of course, this was before it was established that Bison leads an organization called Shadowlaw (or Shadowloo/Shadalow/Shadaloo. Hey, even Capcom kept changing it's spelling). And that he has "Psycho Powers". Or that he can teleport and throw fireballs. Sigh. This was establised in the Street Fighter II the Movie (the anime, not that godawful POS starring Jean-Claude Van Damme). This canon is established and used as the backstory for Street Fighter Zero.

Fast forward to Street Fighter II, and it seems Bison landed himself in Thailand. Oh. It seems his base of operation is in Thailand. Bugger. I'd have loved to create fanfic of Bison's daily life on the streets of Thailand. If that's even his real name. Oh, it's not. Back when Capcom Japan released Street Fighter II in Japan, the Grand Masters, except for Sagat, were not known as they are now. The boxer was called M. Bison; the clawed matador was called Balrog, and the final boss was called Vega. It is no secret that the boxer was based on real life boxer Mike Tyson. Even the original portrait of the character looks like Mike Tyson. Fearing legal action, Capcom did a switcheroo for 3 of the characters. The final boss is now M. Bison, the matador became Vega and the boxer has been renamed Balrog. So M. Bison's full name is really Mike Bison. This is still true in Japan. As for the rest of the world, feel free to make up your own name. Capcom has never officially named M. Bison as anything else.

thx... however, what does CPS1/CPS2 means?

I'm going for MAME though... trying to find the rom now... huhu~

can u get banned by saying things about emulation? laugh.gif

CPS1 and CPS2 were the arcade hardware powering all of Capcom's games from 1988 to 1996. Wikipedia has better a explanation than I can summarize. Nebula is pretty much a flawless representation of CPS1 and CPS2 emulation. MAME still has some problems with a very small percentage of CPS1/CPS2 games. On the other hand, MAME does have much bigger support of arcade hardware.

PSM3 gives Street Fighter IV a 95!

http://www.gamesradar.com/f/psm3-gives-str...113142756340005

I might disagree about this score when I finally get my hands on it, but for now, I'm very excited to get it on console. Will be playing the PS3 version, now that I have one. Hope I won't suck too much when playing online. I'm going to try Crimson Viper as my first character.
