service pack 3 actually just a patch it wont launch a NEW CD for window service pack 3 ....if launch it will mess up whole window market vista or xp sp 3 ( correct me if i wrong ^^ )

Not untill Vista SP1 is released. And I just got the final version of SP1 beta last week, thus wait for a few more moons

i know that SP3 is leaked to public but the risks is on your own to download and install it from sites other than microsoft

if the sp3 is slow down, den why people wan upgrade? and why microsoft wan release it?

sp3 will be in cd for Mr. Jack Sparrow version but for ori.. so far none i think..

sp3 is estimate to be release at 2008 first half
meanwhile, all are beta or pre-release version at this moment

not ori user may be update but for sure the WGA tattoo will appear if they allow upgrade..

Anyone installed the beta version? What's the difference and gain?

From what I hear from other beta testers (I don't test for XP anymore since I already signed up for Vista's)
- Improvement in hardware/sofware communication, thus faster performance
- Patches/fixes for bugs/holes
- Windows Genuine Update.

The last bit intruiges me. It's based on the Vista's version where EVERY copy needs to be activated online, without it windows will run in limited mode. It also blacklist many hacks such as Pirated CD Keys, Bios emulation (also for Vista), and timestopper. Expect pirated version to take a longer time before releasing this.

Ok, if there are speed improvements then it's worth to give it a shot If it doesn't work well (especially with my VTP) then I'll have to ghost the fresh copy out again and re-install everything.

it's the same with Vista actually. You need internut to verify than ur ready to go. But verification is easy. I verified mine on a dial up in just less than 10 seconds

I installed it and don't notice much of a difference. You'll lose your VTP changes and have to re-do it again.
However when you install, it gives an error this time saying it can't patch uxtheme.dll

then i will give SP3 a pass, just run normal windows update

should be free gua, last time they send me sp2 cd after fill-in my particular at their web-form (...actually dun have 'licensed' one during that time )

the sp2 cd is the standalone sp2 or it's winxp with sp2?

The last-ever major update to Windows XP - XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) - provides a "measurable boost" to the ageing operating sytem. SP3 is due for release during the first half of 2008, and testing firm Devil Mountain Software said users can look forward to increase speeds - particularly in Microsoft Office applications. The company ran the OfficeBench suite of performance benchmarks on a laptop equipped with Office 2007. The system featured a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 1GB of memory. Devil Mountain showed a 10% speed increase under XP SP3 when compared to SP2, the service pack release for Windows XP in 2004.

"Since SP3 was supposed to be mostly a bug-fix/patch consolidation release, the unexpected speed boost comes as a nice bonus," saod Criag Barth, Devil Mountain's chief technology officer. "In fact, XP SP3 is shaping up to be a 'myst have' update for the majority of users still running Redmond's not-so-latest and greatest OS."

XP SP3 has already been released to around 15,000 testers. However, despite Microsoft's indication that the update will arrive in the first six months of 2008, the company is not giving a specific date for its release and concedes that not even the half-year window is set in stone.

Microsoft will, at some point, offer a beta of XP's final najor update to anyone who wants it. That timetable, however, was as iffy as the final release's, with availability set on as "a later date".

SP's won't slow down your system - its just a batch of updates packed together. doesn't look like there's anything interesting in terms of functionality, more of compatibility this time round.

it probably would be the final SP released by microsoft for XP. and yes, it should be free - as was its previous SP2.

It's just a test run. 99% of what you see in it will be in the final product, but it won't be sanctioned more than the allocated time frame that microsoft gives you. Thus if you have any problem with RC after General Release is done, they have the rights to ignore you, altho that's rare
