Somehow the Demo stress the card more than its benchmark or running a game. I tried 900/1333 on Bioshock (max at 1920 x 1200), 3dmark06 (optimal at 1920 x 1200) and GoW (max at 1920 x 1200)...they all ran fine, except that the GPU was at 80+°C with fan at 75%. But when I start the Demo (optimal at 1920 x 1200), it fails somewhere in the middle of the firefly test. So I lowered it till 880/1333...baru it is fine.

Added on January 14, 2008, 5:26 pmPlus, I suggest everyone who runs at more than 900MHz to do the same...run the 3dmark06 demo at highest resolution...and not just the benchmark at default resolution.
*
good advice...i noticed the demo runs longer then the standard benchmark, mybe thats why it stress the card further...
finally i manage to solve the PROBLEM!! rclxms.gif it's the CCC/Overdrive rclxub.gif ....somehow if i overclock thru rivatuner the system manage to play crysis stable until 875/1300 and finish 3DMark06 up to 891/1300...and this was achieved thru the default BIOS supplied with the card...max temp 67c and of course fan at 100% rclxub.gif laugh.gif

Even at 891/1300, with my F3 only can max till 10500 doh.gif ...have yet to run the DEMO tongue.gif

Remember the key words: DEMO and HIGHEST RESOLUTION.

Added on January 15, 2008, 9:42 amBenchmarking means nothing if you can't use the card properly. No need to compare with others. You have your own criteria to playability of games, optimal usage of resources, efficiency of processes...and of course, budget...

wah dude, u dun really need 1.65vgpu for 1012 la sweat.gif
even 1.45vgpu can do 1012mhz on my 3870 and pass 3dmark06. But its not stable for long gaming session.
Beware when pumping voltages bro, i dont think 55nm are able to take up too much voltages...

AFAIK, till now there is no voltage change by bios for HD3870, theorically its possible but i havent seen anyone sucessfully do it. The stock voltage is 1.33, the highest i ever go was 1.65v, but at 1.65 it doesnt make any difference with 1.55 because the max core speed was the same. 1.55v got my clock to 1012mhz, adding up to 1.65 does not help any further, im still stuck at 1012mhz. So.. for 24/7 usage im running 1.45v @ 958mhz which is currently the most stable clock.

And another thing that you guys should take note when doing pencil mod. You core temperatures wont shoot up alot since the 3870 runs rather cool natively. One thing that most ppl overlooked when overclocking a GFX is the Power Regulators. At 1.55v, the regulators are BURNING HOT, i cant even touch it for more than 1 second, its bloody hot. So many sure there is adequate cooling for the P.Regs. You can easily ziptie an 80mm fan directly to there and the fan blows ur rams and the pregs at same time. Ill take a pic of how i do it sometime later, its rather late now =(

Hmm...I'll wait and see if R680 works on non-CF boards. If it does, I won't bother with HD3870 mod...if it doesn't, I'll go get a multimeter.

i dunno much about 55nm max voltage.
but i've seen someone in xtreme forum claim that he'd tried 1.9v on the card with wc... the card has no problem with it.
he's using 1.7v for normal usage.
as long as you can control the temperature, you wont do any harm on the card itself.
for your info i'm using 120mm fan on the 3870, there's anonther 120mm fan at the sidepanel giving fresh air to it directly.

i tried 1000mhz with 1.52v but failed in cod4 within 3 minutes.

my card fulload at 55C, idle 50C.

TR HR03 Plus does not compatible with 3870 unless you mod it(which takes quite alot of time).

hmm... in that case i think i should go for higher voltage and see how can i clock it xD
fyi, my temps for 1.55v @ 1021mhz barely go more than 40c on full load drool.gif

Then again, sometimes in extreme overvolting, its not the temp that kills ur card. Temp kill your component slowly over a long period. While too much volt = instant death. Thats the risk that we have to take.. Even with chilled cooling/phase/peltier/DICE, and even with super cool temps voltage still can kill your card.

lol, your card also needs high vcore?

I just follow the mounting method from TR manual.
