btw guys which bios is the best for sapphire card, thinking of flashing mine to see whether can get better performance

i've checked xtremesystem forum about the best bios for 3870.
not much difference....

Try your card out. Each and every card has its own limit, even though it is made by the same manufacturer. Then flash the BIOS yourself after you found the sweet spot for OC-ing.

this applies to nVidia as well. All cards can be overclocked as any pre-overclocked cards out there. Pre-OC is for people who are afraid to overclock and risk the warranty, thats all.

isn't that for Vista 32/64 bit only...

durr..i tried out the new cat8.1beta... there is no difference between 8.1 and 7.12 in term of performance...

You do realize that not all drivers will enhance performance, right? Also, Cat 8.1 is supposed to feature the support for lower HD3xxx series and R680. And you tested on 3dmark06...tried gaming?


Flash your VGA BIOS. Refer first page. Then, try OC to 880/1333. It should be stable for most HD3870. And your Phenom...need more OC lah...

You have to flash it coz it had a 860MHz core limit. Go even 1MHz beyond it and your card will fail.

is it bro? please define fail ....is it graphic corruption or system shut down...i've been thinking the same question too....why dont we just overclock it thru rivatuner or atioverdrive...

In my case, with default BIOS i manage to overclock to 875 and run crysis without any crash...however, it seems that i cannot overclock my VRAM any further than default coz the system will hang and shut off while i'm running crysis or CMR:Dirt for few minutes....but the weird thing is i manage to finish 3Dmark06 with overclocked VRAM @ 1200 setting ...any help?..i've just migrate from 8800gt to sapphire 3870 last saturday ....

what brand is your HD3870? its really weird, never seen any stock bios which allows that clock speed. Perhaps newer revision comes pre-installed with the new unlocked bios? anyways bro, your rams should be able to run 1333mhz (2666mhz) without problem. I overslept the otherday running looped 3dm06(total run time 8hrs) and it ran successfully without any problems. As for core, i think your clockspeed is the max you can go stable, any further will require vmodding.
