QUOTE(goldfries @ Jan 9 2008, 10:41 PM)
eh i'm here today mah, posted a few places. smile.gif

can find me in quite a few places wan.
no ler. it's not the OS kicking in.

the OS when you on, it only gives some high frequency sound. that's it.

the KREK part it happens to mine only once a while. in fact, i don't even know how to make it go KREK.

i used the 18-200 to snap MANY photos already, paintball outing alone donno how many hundred shots, running around balblablaba - don't even here that KREK.

in my use so far only heard is say.......erm. 3 times? really donno how to re-create it. what i notice is when i point it downwards or slanted angle but it doesn't happen all the time, in fact rarely.

perhaps the OS device friction on something. not sure.
damn nice price.

but with your question - how often does your KREK happen?

the KREK sound (based on your desciption, here and via PM) it should be sounding like scratching a pen on a wall a bit.

IF it happens often, i think maybe that's why RM 1.2k cos i think RM 1.2k is really damn low for a lens like this. that's like 33% off.

judging by what you mentioned, i think it happens SO OFTEN. or else you wouldn't be asking. mine has taken a few thousand shots now and I've been using it frequently for past 3 months or so and i couldn't even remember when was the last i heard it.
*
erm...the krek only appeare when the os switch is on, if off no sound coming, the sound only came once in a while, when i'm in focus mode half press and after taking the photo...weird huh!

ouhh doesn't sound good man.

i don't get KREK regardless when my OS is ON / OFF.

yeah off, sure no sound coming la. it's got to do with the OS part.

the thing is you still can say "once in a while".

mine i only hear 2 things
1. high frequency but not loud kinda sound. (my ear sensitive wan la. not everyone can hear it)
2. if i put my ear next to the lens (really close) i'll here zzz zzz zzz like electric.

your KREK sound, it's like friction between 2 objects, right? audible pretty loud and you can hear it quite a distance from the lens. right?

i'm not some 18-200 OS expert la k, but your description worries me.

Added on January 9, 2008, 10:59 pm

the above worries me

once in a while, and you can even know WHEN it occurs.

mine RARELY occurs - probably 3 times out of my er......... probably 3000 shots taken, over 4 outings. (2 BBQ, 1 buffet, 2 paintball session).

i will look into tonight, as i only got the lense today, btw i bought it from my friend also my neighbour...got 7 days personal warranty from him.. cant ask him for the sound coz he outstation till saturday..

if showing your pictures, start your gallery is better.

so how's your sigma KREK? still happening?

today i went out for a shoot, it happened once or twice, that time i think i was pointing upwards. again it's rare. something that i just can't seem to re-create.

EDITED : if you're showing picture to set a point through or using it as something to ask, then just use the IMG button and paste image URL there. can upload your pictures to the usual places like FLICKR.

it looks something like
